“While in the studio recently, Gerard started having some problems with his voice,” said guitarist Frank Iero in an official statement. “At first we weren't too concerned about it and thought it would pass, as these things usually do, but the longer it went on the more worried we all got so he went to see the doctor.

“The good news is he's getting the best treatment possible and is going to make a full recovery, trust me we couldn't be more relieved,” he added. “The bad news is it's not gonna go away overnight and we have to do what we hate doing most, cancel shows. We are incredibly sorry for bumming anyone out by cancelling, and we hope you find it in your hearts to understand. We promise we will be back in Australia to make it up to you guys/gals as soon as possible.”

Post-hardcore heroes Jimmy Eat World will replace MCR on the five-date touring festival, which was due to kick off in Brisbane on February 20 and conclude in Perth on March 1.

My Chemical Romance's as-yet-untitled follow up to 2006's The Black Parade album will be released later this year through Warner Bros.

Jared Leto saves fans from alleged bomber

According to internet reports, 30 Seconds To Mars frotnman Jared Leto saved fans from an alleged suicide bomber last night in Los Angeles.

Fans were gathered at The Hive in West Hollywood for a special screening of a new 30 Seconds To Mars documentary when, at approximately 8:30PM, a young man in a black hooded top stormed into the venue. He pushed his way to the front of the room and dropped a large box covered in gold wrapping paper at Leto’s feet.

When the singer asked him to leave the stage, the unidentified male said “It’s time for a little self-help” and is then said to have allegedly muttered something about having explosives. Upon hearing this, Leto wrestled with the man and dragged him out of the room.

“[It was] weird,” said one eyewitness. “Everyone in the room watched him walk toward Jared. Jared said ‘Someone stop him’ three or four times, but no one did. The guy got to Jared, dropped the box on the floor and started to give a speech. Jared grabbed him by the shoulders and basically [dragged] him out the back door."

The alleged bomber was restrained by the band’s security guards until the police and bomb disposal experts arrived.

“I just finished with the police,” Leto wrote on his Twitter at 11PM last night. “They cleared five blocks and brought in the bomb squad and [sniffer] dogs.”

You can watch fan filmed footage of the incident below.

Mark Hoppus and John Mayer join Fall Out Boy

Following yesterdays announcement that Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz perhaps, maybe, possibly, doesn’t know if he’ll ever rejoin the cult Chicago emo stars, Blink 182 bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus announced via his Twitter that he’ll be replacing Wentzy in the band.

Wentzy Tweeted back: “[Fall Out Boy] just got a whole lot more hit songs! I can’t believe I quit the band!”

However, Hoppus’ time in Fall Out Boy was remarkably short-lived when he announced immediately after joining the band that “For the record, as of right now, I am also quitting Fall Out Boy.”

Thankfully acclaimed US singer/songwriter John Mayer has decided to step up to the mark and announced via his Twitter that “I am replacing Mark Hoppus in Fall Out Boy.”

Mayer quickly followed up his Tweet with another unveiling Fall Out Boy’s new frontman: “As defacto leader and bass player of Fall Out Boy, I am thrilled to announce Queensryche's Geoff Tate is our new singer."

While Wentzy declined to comment on these fresh Fall Out Boy line-up changes, he did give fans an insight into what musical direction he’s taking next: “I want to make music that is exclusively played at sporting events,” he Tweeted.

Gentlemen, in case you haven’t checked your calendars, April the first is still two months away. And besides, our spoof 'Fall Out Boy are splitting up' story was way funnier...

Are Fall Out Boy officially over?

Bassist Pete Wentz has blogged that he can’t see Fall Out Boy getting back together. And so has singer Patrick Stump. OMGZ!

The emo superstars officially went on hiatus in October last year and released their greatest hits album, Believers Never Die, the following month.

"[I] don't know the future of Fall Out Boy," Wentzy wrote in an entry on his official website, petewentz.com. "As far as I know Fall Out Boy is on a break. As much as I don't have a solo project, I also can't predict that I'd ever play in Fall Out Boy again."

“In this statement I'd like to include there is the possibility that FOB will play again without me or I will be a part of it when everyone is on the same page," he added.

Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, who, as previously reported, is currently working on a solo album, responded by saying:

"I'm not in Fall Out Boy right now. But one way or another, the band will always be around in some form. Steven Tyler isn't in Aerosmith anymore, but his gravestone will probably say something about Aerosmith. Whether we play again or not, I don't know. If we do, it will be for the right reasons. If we don't, it will also be for the right reasons."

Is it really all over? Do you actually care?

Have your say below…

Relentless Energy Tour 2010 as it rolls into London later this week.

The band join All Time Low, The Blackout, Young Guns and My Passion for what promises to be an explosive finish to the 13-date tour at London’s Roundhouse on February 5 and 6.

“We’ll give the fans a good dose of metal,” says frontman Will Stapleton. “We can’t wait to play and it’ll be good to be on a bill with our friends in Young Guns. The Roundhouse is an amazing venue too! It’s massive. The bigger the stage the better for us, as we love to run around and party!”

The band will hit the stage the moment the doors open. What can early birds expect from your set?

“High energy rock,” he smiles. “We don’t have a very long set, so it’s going to be pretty full-on. We love to get the crowd involved and have a laugh, so come down early!”

In tomorrow’s Kerrang! magazine, we put your question to Madina Lake.

In addition to deftly sidestepping a question from someone called Me! who asked via Kerrang! Dot Com if they’d give up making music for the good of humanity, the Chicago rockers nearly came unstuck when Melissa from Reading asked them who they’d shag, marry or kill out of Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia and VersaEmerge’s Sierra Kusterback.

After much deliberation they all decided they’d shag Cristina Scabbia, bassist Matthew Leone said he’d like to marry Sierra because “she seems like she’d be good to go camping with and shit”, and frontman Nathan Leone said, reluctantly he’d have to kill Hayley Williams!

“We’re friends!” he protested.

“We’d have to kill her with kindness,” his brother added.

Nice save guys, nice save.

Green Day triumph at the Grammys

The 52nd annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angles last night (January 31). While pop stars like Beyonce Knowles and Taylor Swift scooped a record amount of awards, there were more losers than winners in the rock world.

Silversun Pickups lost out to the Zac Brown Band in the Best New Artist category, Bon Jovi lost out to The Black Eyed Peas for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, Steve Vai lost out to Jeff Beck in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance category, Death Cab For Cutie lost out to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix for the Best Alternative Music Album award and both the True Blood and Twilight soundtracks lost out to the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media and the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media categories.

However, while Green Day lost out to The Kings Of Leon in the Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and the Best Rock Song categories, their latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, went on to clinch the Best Rock Album award. While AC/DC’s War Machine fended off tough competition from Alice In Chains, Linkin Park, Metallica and Nickelback to scoop the Best Hard Rock Performance gong.

Judas Priest walked away with the Best Metal Performance award for Dissident Aggressor and Brendan O'Brien – the man who twiddled the knobs on AC/DC’s Black Ice, Mastodon’s Crack The Skye, Pearl Jam’s The Fixer and Killswitch Engage’s latest self-titled album – was named Producer Of The Year.

Chad Gilbert: “My surgery would have got 5Ks!”

Gibert, who is currently recovering in hospital after doctors removed half his thyroid gland this past Tuesday (January 26), contacted Kerrang! to say that if we did a review of his surgery, it would have got top marks!

“You would have given the doctor 5K’s on how good the surgery went,” he told Kerrang!'s Simon Young.

Gilbert found out that he may have cancer three weeks ago after doctors discovered a lump on his throat when he went in for treatment for suspected pneumonia. Thankfully, after his surgery on Tuesday, he was given the all clear.
