"We wanted to harness everything that's great about this band into shorter songs, almost protopunk, like The Stooges or the MC5," Way told the US mag.

He also went on to revel that while the band’s new album has no overall concept, he wants My Chemical Romance to be perceived as “an American rock band instead of a British [sounding] rock band.”

The band's new album will be released early next year.

Paul McCartney snubs Ozzy Osbourne

Speaking to Heat magazine, The Double O revealed that he once asked his hero, former Beatles bassist Paul McCartney, to play bass on one of his songs.

"Meeting Paul McCartney was fucking phenomenal," said Ozzy. "I was in the studio at the same time as him and tried to get him to play bass on one of my songs.

“But he said he couldn't improve on the bassline that was there,” Ozzy explained. “I said, 'Are you kidding? You could piss on the record and I'd make it my life'."

“We want people to realise that we’re not the Fall Out Boy wannabes that some made us out to be in the beginning,” he told Kerrang!. “It became a bit of a stigma and I think people wrote us off because of a few songs on our debut [2008’s Take Off Your Colours]. While we don’t want to isolate and neglect the fans we’ve made, we purposefully set out to avoid writing the album people expected us to make. This album will change people’s opinion of us!”

For the full interview, be sure to pick upa copy of this week’s Kerrang! magazine.

If you can’t wait to hear the record, next Wednesday (November 25) the band will be giving away a free download of new track The Consequence via their official website, www.youmeatsix.co.uk.

Bullet For My Valentine studio update

Bullet For My Valentine have nearly completed work on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to last year's Scream. Aim. Fire. album.

The band are recording their third album at home in Wales with producer Don Gilmore (Linkin park, Lacuna Coil, Good Charlotte). And despite "many obstacles", the band feel it will be their "finest album to date".

“We are almost in the final stages of recording," said frontman Matt Tuck. "It has been another long road but it’s been this long for a reason! There have been many obstacles along the way, lots of hard work and long hours in the studio. However, we think that we will produce Bullet For My Valentine’s finest album to date!

“We have written lots of material and we have narrowed down these songs to what we think are the best of the bunch," he added. "There are eight tracks recorded and finished so far, from some of the best stuff we’ve ever written. They have all the qualities that you would expect from Bullet but with ’something’ else. A twist! We are all blown away so far with how everything is going. Don Gilmore is an incredible producer and has really helped us develop our sound.

“We do apologise for how long the album is taking but we need this to be right," he added. "And we certainly don’t want to rush things and spoil it for your guys. We will get the album out as soon as possible. We will hit the road as soon as possible, and we will see all you crazy fuckers as soon as possible!”

Black XS Livesound: And the winner is...

The final of Kerrang!’s Black XS Livesound competition took place at The British Music Experience at London’s O2 Arena last night.

The three finalists, Sound The Attack, Reaper In Sicily and Your Army battled it out in front of 400 fans and a panel of K! judges to win a record deal with Search And Destroy Records (home to Kerrang! faves Fightstar and In Case Of Fire among others).

After much deliberation, Welsh rockers Reaper In Sicily were named as the winning act.

“It’s the best feeling in the world,” said 21 year old Reaper In Sicily frontman Rhys Bernardo after the gig. “I can’t even describe it! Three months of sleepless nights and it’s been worth every minute of it.

“You dream about it, when you’re in this contest, getting to the final four and then you some how manage to get in the final four… We just gave it a hundred and ten per cent, so did all the other bands,” he added. “We’re so grateful for this opportunity, we’re going to make the most of it. We’re not going to let anyone down and hopefully you’ll be hearing a lot from us soon.”

“The standard was really high and all three bands did great performances, it was such a tough decision,” said Search And Destroy president Craig Jennings. “What maybe swung it was Reaper In Sicily opened with the anthem of the night, We Bring the Fire, which I look forward to releasing on Search and Destroy in February.

“They have a very bright future, as do Sound The Attack and Your Army,” he added.

Head on over to livesound.kerrang.com to listen to tracks from all the band’s in the competition and if you register as a fan you’ll also receive a free Black XS sample.

Pete Wentz in his pants

While surfing the interweb this lunchtime we stumbled across the US TV advert for the new Band Hero game.

The clip features Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker performing pop starlet Taylor Swift’s 2008 hit Love Story, in their pants.

We thought it’d be impolite not to share…

Band Hero is out now.

Corey Taylor ties the knot

The couple tied the knot at a private ceremony at the Palms Hotel's Pearl Concert Theater in front of 350 guests. Taylor and Luby walked down the aisle to Metallica's For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Guests in attendance included Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and The Cult bassist Billy Morrison who also acted as the minister. Morrison and Navarro's revolving-door rock supergroup, Camp Freddy, performed at the reception with Taylor reportedly joining them for three songs.

Everyone at K! sends our best wishes to the happy couple.
