Reaper In Sicily guitarist diagnosed with leukaemia

Kerrang! are sad to report that Reaper In Sicily guitarist Matthew Jenkins has been diagnosed with leukaemia.

He was rushed to hospital last night and is now receiving urgent medical treatment on a Teenage Cancer Trust ward.

Reaper In Sicily shot to fame last year by winning the Kerrang!-sponsored Black XS Livesound battle of the bands competition. The band released their debut single, We Are The Show!, earlier this month.

A Facebook group has been set up to help support Matthew, you can join it here.

Everyone at K! sends their best to Matthew, his family and his bandmates at this difficult time.

Green Day new album exclusive!

In this week’s Kerrang! magazine, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong reveals that the punk heroes have already started work on the follow-up to last year’s 21st Century Breakdown.

Despite making fans wait five years in between 2004’s American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, Armstrong promises that the as-yet-untitled follow-up will be completed sooner rather than later.

The vocalist says that the punk trio used their downtime wisely during their European tour last October, spending their time off between arena shows in recording studios across the continent rather than sleep their days away in luxury hotels.

“We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam,” he tells K!. “We wanted get [the songs] down in some early form."

For the full interview, be sure to pick up a copy of this week’s Kerrang! magazine.

The band, who were due to hit the UK next month with Saosin, apparently were a little premature saying their were still able to make the trek after Saosin pulled out of the tour last week due to financial concerns.

"I guess I jumped the gun,” says the band’s frontman Will Francis. “Once Saosin pulled out of the tour a few of the promoters weren't to keen on having to pull the tickets in, refund them all, then issue new ones. That coupled with some of the shows having to change venues and us trying to find a new mode of transportation, the logistics of trying to pull all of this off in three weeks is nearly impossible.

"I know it's hard for everyone out there right now, the economy has everything twisted in knots,” he added. “It's very hard to be in a band (unless you're Metallica) and provide for a family at the same time. Believe me, all we want to do is come to your town and rock, and that is what we will do."

Refunds will be available from the point of purchase.

168 fans arrested at Metallica concert

168 people were arrested at a Metallica concert in Colombia last night (Thursday, March 11).

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse hundreds of gig goers in the country’s capital, Bogota, after a riot broke out as they tried to get into the sold out concert without tickets.

The city’s authorities deployed approximately 1,500 police officers and four tanks to bring the mob under control during the 45-minute riot. Eight people were reportedly hospitalised with injuries ranging from stab wounds to broken limbs.

Bogota’s police chief, Ruben Castillo, called the rioters “misfits”.

This is the second time a riot has broken out in the Bogota during a concert - fellow heavy metal legends, Iron Maiden, found themselves in the middle of a riot in the Colombian capital a year ago (March 7, 2009). 111 people were arrested during that incident and a police officer was left in need of facial reconstructive surgery.

Charlie Simpson: "I have no interest re-joining Busted"

Reports in today’s tabloids allege that Fightstar frontman Charlie Simpson is quitting the cult British rock outfit to reform Busted, the boyband that kick started his career.

As you’d expect, the rumour is categorically not true.

"Fightstar have been together for six years now and we have made three albums that we are all extremely proud of,” Simpson told Kerrang! “We are now in a more creative place than ever before and there is absolutely no sign of it slowing down. We have a very dedicated fan base that has been with us from the start and no doubt will be with us for a very long time.

“I wish Matt and James all the best with their future projects but I want to make it unequivocally clear that I have no interest what-so-ever in re-joining Busted and I never will,” he added. “I am at a point in my life were I am content and happy and I wouldn’t change it for the world."

Linkin Park set to release 100 live albums next week

Linkin Park are set to release over 100 live albums as part of their LP Archives: Official Tour Bootlegs series next week.

The recordings were made between 2007 and 2009 and are available for download from downloads.linkinpark.com from next Wednesday (March 17).

"We originally decided that it would be cool to let our fans buy a recording of the show they just attended," says Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon. “Once we saw the positive response to that, we figured it would be even better to make all of the shows available to anyone who would like to download them.”

Foo Fighters promise "heaviest album yet"

Foo Fighters are to begin work on their follow-up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace in September.

They’ll team up with producer Butch Vig, who recorded Nirvana’s 1991 classic Nevermind as well as Green Day's 21st century Breakdown among others, and will record the album in frontman Dave Grohl’s garage.

“Me and [drummer] Taylor [Hawkins] have already started demoing songs,” says Dave. “I think this could be our heaviest album yet.”

We’re sure Dave’s neighbours are going to be chuffed!

Behemoth frontman could face jail

Behemoth frontman Nergal could face jail for tearing up a Bible onstage in Gdynia, Poland in 2007.

It is a crime in Poland to destroy any religious iconography and the frontman could face two years in prison. Nergal – real name Adam Darski – has pleaded not guilty to the charge, claiming what he does onstage is part of artistic licence and is not intended to offend any religious groups.
