Every Time I Die part ways with drummer

Every Time I Die have parted ways with long-serving drummer Mike Novak.

Although the band have yet to make an official comment, Novak has issued a statement on his departure.

"I have officially quit Every Time I Die due to personal conflicts," says Novak. "I feel like I'm getting myself out of an uncomfortable, unhealthy situation, and it's for the best for everyone, and I'm ready to move on with my life. I still plan to play and be involved in music and am looking for a new project to pursue.

"This is a new exciting chapter in my life and hope anyone who has enjoyed me as a person/drummer in this band for the last 11 years, sticks with me for whatever endeavour the future brings me," he adds. "Thanks to all the ETID fans throughout the years"

The Buffalo quintet have recently finished work on their forthcoming album, New Junk Aesthetic. It will be released in the UK on September 14 through Epitaph.

Anthrax and Slipknot to present the 2009 Kerrang! Awards

The 2009 Awards will be held at a top secret London location on August 3, and this year we have not one, but two, metal gods presiding over the chaos, namely Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

"It's going to be awesome presenting the Awards with my good friend Corey," says Scott Ian. "I've done it the past few years on my own and let me just say it gets a little lonely up there. I really can't wait."

"When I was asked to co-host the Kerrang! Awards my response was very simple: when and where?," adds Taylor. "Even though I don't stand a chance in hell of keeping up with the mighty Scott Ian, I plan to hold my own in the only way I know possible... through sheer determination and large amounts of coffee."

When asked if Taylor should wear his trademark Slipknot mask onstage for the ceremony, Scott Ian replied: "I'd actually prefer it if he didn't because I find it a little disconcerting. Anyway, why should he get to hide away? Maybe I should be the one wearing a mask? See how he likes it!"

"Scott and I are going to have the time of our lives," Taylor insisted. "And maybe if I'm lucky, he'll dance with me later."

In tomorrow's Kerrang! magazine we will reveal the shortlist for this year's awards and voting will recommence via the K! Awards blog, for only you can decide which of rock's leading lights will walk away with those much-coveted shiny trophies K! on the night. (Or more likely, the following morning, given the ceremony's debauched reputation...)

The record, entitled New Junk Aesthetic, will be released in the UK on September 14 through Epitaph.

In a similar move to getting My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way to sing guest vocals on 2005's Gutter Phenomenon,
the band have enlisted the help of Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz for their new record.

"Just laid down some vox on [the new Every Time I Die] record;" wrote Wentz on his Twitter account. "Hopefully I didn't ruin it. Sorry if I did dudes (dudes in the band not internet dudes that hate me)."

Bruce Springsteen joins The Gaslight Anthem

Bruce Springsteen joined the New Jersey rockers for their set in the John Peel tent reports K!'s sister site Q Magazine. Ahead of his much-heralded headline set on the Pyramid Stage, he leant guest vocals and guitar to The '59 Sound, the title track from the band's second album.

Frontman Brian Fallon introduced Springsteen - "Can you hear that sound? I'm feeling waves from home." - before the 59-year-old strode onstage with guitar in hand, clad in a leather jacket and shades. As the crowd chanted the rocker's name, the band dived into The '59 Sound with Springsteen trading vocals with Fallon.

As Springsteen left the stage, waving and grinning at the crowd, Fallon told them: "You've been good to us and that is our present to you."

More stars pay respects to the late Michael Jackson

More stars have paid tribute to pop legend Michael Jackson, who died of a cardiac arrest in Los Angeles yesterday. He was 50 years old.

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash performed on two tracks - Black Or White and Give In to Me - on Michael Jackson’s 1991 Dangerous album. He commented: "Really sad news about Michael, he was a talent from on high."

Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz: “I have never felt this before in my life. RIP. The last legend.”

Blink-182's Mark Hoppus: “The first album I ever bought was Thriller with birthday money. On cassette. For my brand new Sony Walkman. Truth. Rest in peace."

Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers: “Today we lost a part of music history, a legend, and the greatest pop music artist there ever will be. The things Michael created on Thriller, Off The Wall and Bad will never be matched. Rest in peace, sir. God bless your soul.”

Stars pay tribute to Michael Jackson

Stars have paid tribute to pop legend Michael Jackson, who died of a cardiac arrest in Los Angeles yesterday. He was 50 years old.

"On this tour I have been paying tribute to MJ by wearing his Beat It jacket and rhinestone glove," said Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. "The irony and timing is shocking. I am very sad. He was truly brilliant and the reason why I love to dance."

"Michael Jackson was easily as influential as James Brown, and that's saying a lot," said Alice Cooper. "We had Vincent Price in common. I used him first on Welcome To My Nightmare in 1975, and he later used him on Thriller. Nobody moved like Michael, he was truly the King of Pop."

Guitarist Eddie Van Halen made a guest appearance on Jackson's 1983 hit Beat It.

"I am really shocked; as I'm sure the world is, to hear the news," said the guitarist. "I had the pleasure of working with Michael - one of my fondest memories in my career. Michael will be missed and may he rest in peace."

Chris Cornell, who recorded a cover version of Billie Jean on his 2007 solo album, Carry On, was "saddened" by the loss.

“I was on my way from Poland to Berlin following a show. At 1am I got the news and was immediately saddened. I remembered being 6 years old and seeing the Jackson 5 on our black and white tv. His brothers were cool but he had a halo around him. Superstar at 12. What promise. He had magic! It was by chance that I recorded and rearranged his song Billie jean and have been amazed at the response it gets when I perform it every night. He was amazingly talented and largely misunderstood. I hope that the media will be kind and celebrate the genius instead of cashing in on the tabloid angles that made him a prisoner. I think he deserves that.”

Here is a video of Cornell's reworking of Jackson's classic hit:
