According to frontman Corey Taylor, the follow-up to 2004's Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) is "going to rip your face off." "I don't think the world will be ready for this album," Taylor told US mag Billboard. "It's a cross between Vol. 3 and [2001's] Iowa. It has so much power in it and yet there are so many great spots for melody. It's a controlled chaos that hits you right out of the gate." When asked about the album's lyrical content, Taylor said: "Instead of bitching about what went wrong in my life, I'm bitching about what's wrong in life, PERIOD." After a gruelling 18 months in the studio, Dexter Holland and co have surfaced, with what they believe to be, "the best record we've made yet." "Sometimes it's great to bash things out," Holland tells K!. "And you can make songs that sound very fresh and energetic that way, but this time around it just felt right to sit back and take our time. I think that really helped the songs." Working closely with famed produced Bob Rock (Metallica / Lostprophets), across two studios in Hawaii and California, the resulting collection looks set to please fans - old and new. "There are definitely some elements that fans of our older material will enjoy, but at the same time there are still bits and pieces here and there that are totally new," explains Holland. "I am always trying to find ways to keep things interesting, but at the same time people will know that it's The Offspring. It's loud and it's fast but it's also very melodic." As for whether the band are still relevant, 24 years since they first began, Holland remains positive. "Honestly, with every year that passes I'm amazed that we're still here," he reveals. "We definitely still have fun doing what we do, and maybe that's the key to it. When it's not fun it shows, and the way to keep things fun is to take breaks sometimes. Closing their set with a rip-roaring rendition of hit single Helena, lead singer Gerard Way used the final moments of their performance to hit out against the right-wing British media who claim the band's music inspired a teenage girl to commit suicide. Way repeated the line "If we never play another show ever again keep yourself alive" over and over again until he and guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way and drummer Bob Bryar left the stage. In related news, in an interview with US newspaper, The Detroit News, Way announced that the band will be on a "recording hiatus" for the next twelve months saying that the next My Chemical Romance album "won't be ready until 2009 at least." "We are sad to have to be writing you all this letter," writes frontman A. Jay Popoff in an online post on their official site on May 5. "Our brother, Allen Shellenberger, is currently in the hospital undergoing testing and treatment for a brain tumour that was just discovered. We are still not sure what his prognosis is and unfortunately, we will not be able to make the shows in the UK and Europe. "At this point we have to just stay put and be by Allen while he goes through this difficult time," adds Popoff. "We will make it up to you as soon as we can. Allen sends his thanks for the well wishes and he's sorry we had to cancel these shows.
