10 songs you should hear now!

TURBOWOLF, READ AND WRITE
They’ve got some big, fat riffs and some big, fat songs with big, fat grooves. And some sort of mellotron noise. Still rocks like a bastard, though.

SPINNERETTE, BAPTIZED BY FIRE
The punk fury might have been replaced by an electronic beat and proper singing, but Brody Dalle’s new outfit aren’t any less brilliant than The Distillers.

TWIN ATLANTIC, LIGHTSPEED
Another ace single from the Glasgow newbies. If they keep going at this rate (that’s not a crap pun on Lightspeed), Twin Atlantic are going to overtake Biffy Clyro as everyone’s favourite Scots.

THEORY OF A DEADMAN, BAD GIRLFRIEND
<<”Aint no doubt about it, she’s a bad, bad girlfriend”>>. Is that a double negative? Maybe. All we know is that this is sure to be a floor filler in the clubs.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, BURN IT DOWN
If you caught them at Download, you’ll be aware that FFDP really know how to kick an arse or two. Here’s a teaser from their new album. Prepare to get kicked all over again.

IN THIS MOMENT, CALL ME
Yep, that’s a Blondie cover. And, yep, hearing In This Moment doing a Debbie Harry is actually really, really good.

DEVILDRIVER, BACK WITH A VENGEANCE
So Dez Fafara’s been going around telling everyone his band are ready to fill a Pantera-shaped hole. Listen to this and, um, it’s actually quite hard to argue with him.

THE USED, BLOOD ON MY HANDS
They’re back, and they’re better than ever. Here’s Bert McCracken’s mob with another slice of twisted, punky noise from their new album, Artwork.

STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB, 100 LITTLE CURSES
That guitar sounds like Rage Against The Machine. That’s because it’s Tom Morello stamping his big grooves all over this rocking number.

WE ARE THE FALLEN, BURY ME ALIVE
Former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody is back, and his new band sound just like his old one. But when you do gothic rock this well, you’d be a fool to mess with success.

10 songs you should hear now!

BLACK TIDE, WARRIORS OF TIME
They may be young, but they rock like they’ve been doing this shit for 20 years. Black Tide make stadium-sized heavy metal look piss easy.

MUNICIPAL WASTE, WRONG ANSWER
Wrong Answer, maybe, but certainly not wrong song. Here the Virginia thrash maestros return with another fistful of riffs and pure thrash aggression.

LINKIN PARK, NEW DIVIDE
Is this Depeche Mode? Nope, it’s Linkin Park doing some enormous, dark electro pop. Even the biggest LP hater will have a job not liking this.

FIGHTSTAR, NEVER CHANGE
Those nice chaps in Fightstar have got this exclusively up on Kerrang.com, and it’s a fucking blinder. Get over there and have a listen, now!

THE MARS VOLTA, TEFLON
Knowing The Mars Volta, they could well be singing about cooking equipment here. Whatever, it’s still amazing, spaced-out prog brilliance.

WHITECHAPEL, ETERNAL REFUGE
Now here’s some superb death metal. It’s heavy, brutal, and just <<listen>> to how fucking deep those growls are! Throat sweet, sirs?

SWASHBUCKLE, SCURVY BACK
No, not a demented Justin Timberlake cover (<<’I’m bringin’ scurvy back…’>> etc), but a rather splendid bit of pirate metal. Alestorm: you’ve got competition.

BEHEMOTH, DAIMONOS
Behemoth really are as their name suggests; powerful, crushing and unstoppable. Now assume the position and bang your head til your neck breaks!

HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, BEG FOR IT
Sleazier than Steel Panther, Hardcore Superstar are all about a good time all of the time. Here’s four minutes of party hearty action.

DREAM THEATER, A RITE OF PASSAGE
Prog metal. How good? Well, listen to this twisty, turny bit of unrestrained glory and judge for yourself. Then wade into one of their 20 minute epics.
