The return of Evanescence!

Evanescence made their live return in New York last week.

The band – who now feature Amy Lee (vocals), Terry Balsamo (guitar), Tim McCord (bass) and Will Hunt (drums) and Finger Eleven guitarist James Black – played a secret show at The Hammerstein Ballroom last Wednesday (November 4). It’s the first time the band has played live since 2007.

The gig was reportedly a warm-up show for last night’s live-return-proper in front of 40,000 people in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Although frontwoman Amy Lee is reportedly working on tracks for the band’s as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2006’s The Open Door, no new material was aired at either show.

In related news, We Are The Fallen – the band featuring ex-Evanescence members Ben Moody (guitar), John LeCompt (bass), Rocky Gray (drums) and former American Idol contestant Carly Smithson – are working on their as-yet-untitled debut album which is set for a 2010 release.

their new album better be good. open doors was really crap. The first four songs on it are good. It isn't a brilliant album. Glad they're back though.

Woah, calm down there.
I am an Evanescence fan, but I didn't like the open door. You have no right to say that someone is not a 'true fan' just because they didn't like one album.

pppphhhhffffft. it was called "the open door" and it was epic. i watched a few videos from the show and it looked amazing...wish i was there :( cant wait for the new album.....and they piss on we are the fallen.....ben moody needs a slap....amy lee's lush....and a really nice person despite what the media like to make out. cant wait. EVARMY!

Epic? It was really shit. No wonder they disappeared and pretty much split up after releasing it.

Ben Moody was the only good thing about that band, that whiney little bitch Amy lee can fuck off.

Yay! It's great that they are back! Can't wait for their next album! And Krrapp, The Open Door was epic actually, they didn't dissapear or "split up", they need a break you know? Ben Moody is the bitch here not Amy, he even started his own band We Are The Fallen, which totally rips off Evanescence, they fail epically. Ev pwn!

I just hope they don't try to change too much.
Also, has anyone else noticed that the majority of people that think Evanescence is 'Goth' like the Fallen album better than the Open Door, when the latter sounds more 'Goth'-y? xD And neither are truly Goth? So confusing, sorry. xD

Yay

I love that they are "back." Their NYC show was amazing. I'm so glad I was lucky enough to go. Unfortunately there won't be a new album til late next year, but Amy is doing a song on the Muppets Revisited album that will be out in March, so that's cool. I hate that everybody is going to mention We Are the Fallen now. They are nothing more than the poor man's Evanescence.

I'm glad evanescence are coming back. There such a good band and there hard not to like. Lets hope they get that album on the shelves and come over to the UK and tour!

I'm so happy they're coming back! They've been my favourite band since I was about eleven and, regardless of what a lot of people say, I think they're amazing! Hopefully a new album means there will be some tour dates...?

Oh yeah, the mailing list sent a thing out about this a few weeks ago. Nice to see Amy Lee has finally got off her fat arse :D hope any new stuff they do is good though, would like to see them live again.

Thank fuck they are back. Hoping there will be dates for UK (including some Scotland dates) There new stuff should be good unless they go mainstream and just ruin the name of Evanescence and lose there original fans. Glad to see them back though ;D

I can't WAIT! I'm so excited to hear their new material! And for those of you who say "Ben Moody was the only good thing that came out of the band." Why? He's just a regular musician like every other person in a band. He's nothing special. The Open Door in my opinion was just as good as Fallen. And I hope their new album is even better. Keep rockin, Ev! : D

I've been a "true fan" for a long time, and I like The Open Door better than Fallen. Don't get me wrong, I love TOD's style more.

was any1 at this show? was it any good? i mean amy's voice is always good but i was just curious if it was better or worse than the old stuff. I better go check youtube for the vid, some1's bound to have posted it there by now! lol. now im excited for their new album
