Jared Leto: “I’m not your role model”

In this week’s Kerrang! magazine, 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto gives his most revealing interview ever.

Former K! editor Paul Brannigan joined the frontman in Paris to talk about his band’s new album, This Is War, and delve into the dark recesses of Leto’s psyche.

For the first time ever, Leto talks frankly about the band’s battle with their record company, his time on the streets as a child and how he “looked down into the abyss, into Dante’s Inferno, and gazed upon the river Hades” and came back from the brink. But just don’t ask him, or his band, to be your role model…

“If someone finds that in an example of ours then great, but I don’t give advice,” he told K!. “Everyone has to learn their own lessons. But there’s great value in seeing how someone else makes something work.

“I’ve had guidance from other people that I’m very grateful for,” he added. “This record suggests that there’s only one choice, and that is to fight for and follow your dreams. This is a very short and delicate life and there’s no choice but to take full advantage of it.”
