Dave Grohl: “Greatest Hits feels like an obituary”

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl feels that his band have released their Grestes Hits collection (which came out in the UK this past Monday) too early.

"It still seems premature because we're still a functioning, active band,” he told Radio 1. “Those things can look like an obituary. We were asked to do this a long time ago. We wrote it into a deal a long time ago – that's how it works."

Grohl also added that the Best Of came about at the behest of their record company, Sony BMG.

"They started asking about four years ago, and we said, 'Don't we need some hits?',” he laughed. “It's like a Cliff’s Notes version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years. I think there are better songs than some of those."

Well........

There's nothing quite like a new album and full world tour to prove a band isn't dead....... Hint hint ;)

Foo's rule

Have a blast with your other projects Dave but come back soon with a new Foo album and tour. Bagsy tickets at the front.

hmm.. if they said 'i think there are better songs than some of those' i beleive he was hinting at new material, and much like brian nothing to prove it like a new album (or six that'll do fine) and a world tour (with backstage passes) to prove it :)

it doesn't have to be an obituary if u don't want it to be dave! And foo fans don't want it to be an obit either! a few other bands have released "best of" or "greatest hits" but then released new material after. then when they really want to make a greatest hits they can call it "greatest hits II" or sumthing.

a greatest hits album doesnt always mean the end of the road for a band, good example being that the red hot chilli peppers have released two greatest hits, and are still around... well on hiatus at the moment but they'll be back! lol
