Hawthorne Heights fan left with £12,000 dentist bill

Rock fan Jennifer Lovell has been left with a £12,000 dentist bill following a stage-diving accident at a Hawthorne Heights gig in 2006.

During the band’s show at the Bristol Academy, guitarist Casey Calvert – who died in November 2007 from an accidental drugs overdose – staged dived and landed on Jennifer’s head, breaking her jaw.

Calvert was uninsured at the time.

According to The Metro, Jennifer was awarded £1,000 compensation from Calvert’s estate, but was told there was no more money to cover the rest of her dentist bill.

Ouch!

At first I thought she was American then I read that the incident happened in Britain, yes Britain, the country that is supposed to have an NHS!

I feel dead sorry for her and so should the band who could easily sell those flashy silver suits to pay for her medical bills!

Yeah, but think. The NHS cannot afford to pay every little expense. People think the NHS should be used for everything - and this is one of the examples. You don't NEED a dentist, thus it's not NHS payed (unless you're under 16). She will have the jaw repaired, I'm guessing this girl probably just went through private seeing as you DONT have to pay otherwise.

If he has kids, then brake their jaws.

ISA, dentists are C**TS unless you're on benifits, make you pay big time.

im surprised to see this on kerrang website

seeing as it happened at one of their shows and they never replied to us trying to contact them. after the accident and recently after the court case closed.
firstly all of this has been published without my permission.
i hold no grudge against the band as they were unaware of the seriousness of my injuries due to casey passing away.
i have since been in contact with the band who are now trying to help me.

Shocked

To see that this has been posted up. Jenny has personally spoke to me about this numerous times and she has been in talks with the band recently about getting it sorted. Get your facts right before posting stuff like this out Kerrang!

No reply from Kerrang

I am Jens Mum - I wrote to Kerrang when it happened as it was a Kerrang gig - they never replied - I also emailed them when the insurance couldnt pay up in 2007 then again a couple of months ago toask for help.
I was ver upset today to receive a call from a tearful Jen to tell me this was on the website - I wish you had contacted us first. The Band are now trying to help and Casey wanted to help - we were very sad when he tragically passed away and never wanted to claim from his estate but we felt we had no choice as Casey had admitted liability. I do hope HH do not think we had anything to do with this appearing.
Crowd surfing is dangerous though! People get hurt!

Obviously going private then? sorry to hear about this, i work in dentistry and know how costly treatment can be...surely the money is available, i know they're not the biggest band but must be able to cover the bill. Good luck anyway, im a fan of the band but i do think they should take care of this bill

Okay this is very very unfortunate, but, what do you expect by standing right at the front of a crowd?
It's just pure bad luck, i've been jumped on plently of times by musicians in a crowd & i'm fine, just luck of the draw i guess

If you had 'nothing to do with this' then why are there loads of interviews with you all over the internet? I think Hawthorne Heights should pay up. They have sold over a million albums they can afford $12!!!

"the ghost of casey"

I did an interview for a newspaper about the accident after the court case finished to try and get help. Since then the band have spoken to me and out actually trying to help sort this out. I then told the newspaper to not publish the story. Which they did. I wrongly presumed that it would stay in our local paper and would hear nothing more from it.. But then since have been getting phonecalls all day saying I'm on various websites and in various newspapers. None of these had permission to publish this.

to be fair to kerrang...

I can understand why you'd be upset, especially now progress is being made, but to be fair to kerrang, they don't need your permission to publish the story. It's a piece of news that is general information available to the public, they only need to contact you to verify quotes from you.

RE: to be fair to kerrang...

I'm really sorry what happened to you. I can understand you're upset with this news going over the internet, but hopefully now Kerrang have got involved Hawthorne Heights will do the honourable thing and pay-up because of all the bad publicity they're getting. They've sold millions and millions of albums in American so they're clearly not short of a few quid.

xxx

you do realise that hawthorne heights and most bands dont make there income through record sales anymore, but mainly through ticket sales, remembering that there record company takes a percentage of the money from record sales and quite alot of people illagaly download, so saying that theve sold so many records is just a pointless statement now, and also befor statring theve sold millions and millions of albums, you may look to see that only one album went gold, and that was there first album the silence in black and white, and as there a us based band thatb means they sold 500,000 records, which isnt particulay succesfull being they've realised 3 albums

I'm upset because I have since been in contact with the band. Since casey died they genuinely didn't know my injuries were legit and therefore nothing happened.
Eron has contacted me abd the band and their management are now sorting out a way to help.
I know they have no money. Me and eron have discussed all of this and because of the law suit the band actually went bankrupt.
I never wanted this publicity. Casey was a nice guy. It was an accident and he promised to fix it. Unfortunately then with him passing away nothing came of this. But the band are doing all they can considering their current financal situation.
