Are Fall Out Boy really splitting up this time?

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has told Reuters that the Chicago pop-punk legends are going "on a break."

But don’t call it a hiatus…

Following “the death of the emo haircut” last Sunday (October 4) Wentz told the news agency:

"We are going to stop doing Fall Out Boy when Fall Out Boy stops being fun. I think that the world needs a break from Fall Out Boy as much as Fall Out Boy needs a break from the world.

“They need to embrace some other bands out there and you can't always be shoving everything in people's faces all the time," he added.

When asked explicitly if Fall Out Boy were actually splitting-up, Wentzy replied:

"Maybe we will start recording again in two weeks; maybe it will be three years. I don't really know. There is no plan in motion at all and no one has said the ‘H’ word [hiatus] no matter how many times people try to get us to say it."

So are they or aren't they? Will they or won't they? Should they or shouldn't they? Speak your brains below...

Yeah blame it on Kerrang... and I'm sorry, if someone writes something that doesn't come out the way it's supposed to it doesn't mean they're an idiot? Gonna miss Fall Out Boy, but I think they've needed this for a long time...since that sham of an album they called Infinity On High really...I miss the old FOB, the old Patrick and the fat Pete Wentz.

I think its a shame, but at least they're not definatly splitting up. they need some time to just live their lives, I love fall out boy but im not gonna come here saying 'Omg, whhhyyy? thats so sad' theres nothing anyone can do to stop it, and its not that big a deal, lots of bands go on breaks.

They need a break, I'm a fan but I agree it's annoying them being everywhere all the time, all over the TV, radio and magazines. The world does need a break from Fall Out Boy because even I am getting a little bit sick of them.

ok, look heres my view.
Fall out boy are an amazing band but if they didnt do any music for a while the magazines might stop righting stuff about Pete. hes good and everything but the whole of this story and many others are Pete said this, pete did that. there are other members. surely this story should have all the bands views to tell fans like me exactly what the hell is happening.

Dudes, if you don't like them don't comment. The fact that they're legends means that everyone knows them, not that hey're music is good. Personally, I think that FOB are the best band around atm, and if they split I would actually cry. Haters, if we trashed your favourite band you wouldn't be happy so don't do it to us.
Fall Out Boy, ignore the haters, it's cool if you need a break, but don't split because of the haters. Think of all your fans and how far you've come. That's what matters. You have really matured over the years and it would be a shame to throw that away.

I really don't want them to split up!

If it wasn't for FOB then i probably would have never started buying Kerrang! and my life would've never changed for the better so i have a lot to thank them for.

And before you all start saying i only like kerrang! for pop-punk bands i DON'T but FOB set the ball rolling cos i saw Pete Wentz on the cover of the K! Awards issue in 2007. Since buying Kerrang! for the first time i have got into much different bands and now i love listening to Slipknot whereas before Kerrang! they just scared the hell out of me!!!!

So it will be a really big shame if they split but i don't think they will.

How can you allow a comment telling someone to kill themselves on here? It's pathetic.

You need to sort out your comment moderation, or scrap commenting once and for all.

On an FOB note, they're going on a break for a couple years. Not a break up. They'll be back, and I'll be happy to hear whatever new music they put out then.

I saw that someone said on here that Pete doesn't care about the music any more, or that he's only interested in fame-I can tell you right now that isn't true, at all. The fans know how much he interacts with us, how much he puts into the music, along with the rest of the band, and how much he gives us as extras, beyond a simple album.

Honestly? You can carry on hating this band for as long as you want, but it won't change the way I, or any other fans, feel about them. It just makes you look pathetic and childish, having a tantrum because something hasn't gone your way.

Kerrang did say that people could write their opinions about this, but they didn't say, "Tell the fans to go and kill themselves because you disagree with them." That is what I'm angry about. I don't care if you hate the band, but don't be so rude about other humans, it's disgusting.

Because it's the internet, you can't stop anyone. Even with your logical thoughts, how much time you spent trying to stop them, how much you disagree with them, how big your comments are etc etc. I personally don't like FOB at all, but I don't mind if people like them, and I certantly don't go around telling fan to go die.

But as I said, it's the internet, people say stupid things, and yes they do get out of line, but thankfully most people are smart enough to ignore them. But Kerrang! should delete some comments like that. But I think it's alright to expess ones opinion on a band, as long as they do it respectfully.

I usually ignore the hurtful comments, but sometimes it just really gets to me that people can press "submit" so easily without a second's thought for the other person involved.

I agree-if someone hates a band that I like, I really don't mind, but if they go out of there way to be rude, that's just a bit pathetic.

But on a side note Jonas Brothers aren't plastered in Kerrang! although to be honest, it's probably not long before they are. I mean I get very pissed off easily, so I make a comment and then tonnes of people comment, I'm not gonna sit there and go "oh ok." I mean I respect there views, I respect the fact I was out of line but what's said is said. I just get sick of bands like FOB who don't work hard anymore. Just write basic lyrics and crappy songs and you barely ever see smaller bands getting the respect FOB do, and I just don't see why.

I understand where you're coming from, and I get annoyed easily too, but seriously, it was only the "kill yourself" comments that got to me. If you don't like FOB, I respect that, but as you said, you were out of line.

FOB still work hard, and they worked hard to get to the status they're at. I know to a non-fan, it seems like they don't care anymore, but from my point of view, it's the opposite.
As before, the crappy song bit is opinion, but obviously we disagree on that, haha.

FOB started off just like the smaller bands did; there's no reason why, in the future, said smaller bands won't get noticed, as they deserve to be. But then again, once the smaller bands get really big, I'm willing to bet they'll get called sellouts just like FOB do. Lose-lose situation.

This is one thing that I really don't have that much of an opinion about, they never changed my life with their music but I know plenty of people who would say that they have. People have their bands and their music, and if you don't like it then ignore it and go listen to the bands that changed your life.

I like some FOB songs and I agree with some of the FOB fans that think they should take a break. I think we're all getting a bit fed up with Kerrang focusing on Pete Wentz.

When Kerrang write about Iron Maiden, Metallica etc, it's always about the "band". When they write about FOB and even 30STM it's always about "Pete Wentz" and "Jared Leto". And when Kerrang write about HIM it's always about "Ville Valo".

It's about time Kerrang concentrated on the bands and their music - not pop star poster boys!

im a fob fan...but of their earlier stuff...the last 2 albums were WEAK.
i watched them play at the leeds festival and the best song they played was journey "dont stop believin"..kinda sums up the way theyve headed.
it also seems that its just pete wentz in this band..there are 3 other members.
personally, and remember im a fan, i think the should break up and then re-form in about 5 years when theyve tried different things

Ok, so I'm finishing posting on this article (cues for the THANK GOD!'s and YES! FUCK OFF!'s). But purely because I've posted far too much (maybe went over the top but meh, what you gonna do?). A few things though that I want Kerrang to answer:

1) You are a music magazine and report on bands - so why do focus on just one member in a band (like Pete Wentz or Ville Valo) and then fill your pages with useless crap about their personal lives etc. You aren't Hello or OK magazine.

2) You then tell us that "we - the readers" want to read about this crap. No - we don't! We want to read about the MUSIC and TOUR DATES etc.

3) Kerrang then tell us that the bands we want to read about that aren't doing well or aren't popular at the moment (Paradise Lost and other British bands for example) are not worth reporting on because no one is interseted in them anymore. WRONG!!! Because you - Kerrang - insist on filling your magazine pages with band that you THINK us readers might be interested in; i.e. whatever you think is "popular" at the moment. Like Paramore!

I'm not having a go at Paramore - but when all Kerrang write about every week is Paramore and they ignore British bands like Skindred it really pisses me off!

Sort it out Kerrang. You have a new editor but your magazine is now turning into Smash Hits.

I want to read about bands, album and gig reviews, tour dates etc - not about the size of Pete Wentz's ego!!

I agree with you-we don't need pages and pages of personal life news. A small article in the news section would be more than enough, or maybe a line in an interview. But when it's done over and over...bleh. Too much.

Kerrang will continue to post about it though, because of the reactions it gets-this thread is a prime example. The people who hate FOB don't ignore it, they rise to it, which is the attention that K! wants and needs.

More britidh bands, yes. Maybe K! should have a section on British music every week? A few pages of the magazine dedicated to those bands would be good, whilst still reporting on worldwide music too.

Just my opinion though, I'm no expert on how the magazine should be run (:

UHH FINALLY... i'm not here to hate on FOB, people have different opinions on music( so haters relax and try to be a bit more mature) but honestly after under a cork tree fall out boy kind of sold out and it's about time we were cut some slack from petes massive ego. and about the "death of the emo hair" please.

You hardly see machine head, 'tallica or maiden these days. All scene fringe pish. Give us some decent metal. i must admit they are overrated, but they put on a good show when i saw them a few years ago and they do have some great lyrics.

Fall out boy are one of my favorite bands and it would be a shame if they fully split , but like most people they need a break from it all.
if you don't like them why bother wasting your time commenting that you don't ? why not just leave them alone ?

You're all talking about people who like FOB should go listen to some "proper music"? What exactly is your definition of 'proper music'?

Everyone's music tastes are different and I don't see why other people can't appreciate that. It's fine expresisng your opinion about what good music actually is, but everyone has their own individual idea of what music should be like - and that's why music is such a strong and powerful thing: because it's universal.

Some of the things said about other bands - especially Fall Out Boy I've noticed - is horrific. There's no problem with expresing your opinion, but some of the gory and brutal things I've read are just plain horrible and childish.

Again, there is nothing wrong expressing your opinion - we all have to live and grow old around people who disagree with us - however, there is no need to be an absalute moron about it. I feel sorry for the people who feel the need to brutally critizise everything they disagree with.

So on topic, the boys deserve a break - eight years was a long time - the world does need a break from FOB, and I wish them all good luck for the future and their pursuits. Would be nice to see them return one day. :)

To be honest, I think FOB were okay when they started. Now it's all just Wentzy and all his gay ass publicity stunts. (No one cares if you shave your head or take lame pics of your penis)
The bassist of a band shouldn't be that much in the spotlight tbh.
Their old stuff was good, new stuff okay but tainted by Wentz. They need to get a new bassist in my opinion, GTFO Wentzy.

take this to your grave and from under the cork tree are my fave albums! infinity on high was good but you could see that they were moving on a different direction, Folie a Deux was really bad in my opinion and their newest song alpha dog disgusts me! But this happens to most bands, they wanna make more money by appealing to bigger audiences and end up writing pop songs, pop songs using rock music, yeah there's a such thing called pop-punk but i think FOB have gone n left the punk part behind. most bands do it! some bands just go a different direction because they have matured so Ive passed the whole complaining about how bands hav changed, i went through that phase when blink released their self-titled album in 2003 but i still love that album, if anything they moved away from the "pop" music

And he does have talent, if he didn't Fob wouldn't have got this far, this big, his lyrics are good. See if you fuckers can do better. Your all pathetic. Sure I miss the old Fob, the TTTYG days were obviously the best. But Pete's got a family to support now and everyone knows bands/artists in the charts etc. get more money for their music, going mainstream might not be permanent. I personally think they'd make a good hardcore band as Joe and Andy are into the heavier stuff anyway and Pete's got a sexy scream on him. Oh and Pete doesn't 'attention seek'.
