Hayley Williams: "We don't mind being compared to No Doubt"

As their summer trek across the US with No Doubt comes to an end, Paramore singer Hayley Williams has revealed that she takes comparisons to the Orange County ska punk as a compliment.

In her latest blog post, Williams writes:

"Gwen [Stefani] is truly an inspiring woman. Hard worker. As a fellow 'frontman' I feel really blessed to have gotten to perform alongside her. This tour has got me convinced that No Doubt are some of the best entertainers in the whoooole game. Every single one of them is crucial. I think our band could be like that.

"Opening up for them every night has stirred up the comparisons that we knew would come and I know that at this point, we're completely alright with that," she added. "Who wouldn't want to be compared to a band like theirs? There are obvious differences. Our music sounds nothing alike. Plus, guys. my hair is red, duh. But really, I've never felt so motivated to want to take on the world. Thanks to this tour and thanks to No Doubt."

Pop is shortened from the word popular as in 'has a following', I work with music industry professionals (record Label), and they all can honestly say anything that is popular by any amount of people is 'pop' music.

so these rock/metal bands you speak of are also infact 'pop'

I think what he meant to say was that there are enough amazing English bands who dont get exposure as it is. I.E InMe,Brigade even Fighting With Wire who have been around ages rarely get the nod. So I agree with them that Kerrang should concentrate more on English bands although I accept that there are a lot of American bands who deserve the exposure

I'm not sure if that's what you really saying. So, correct me if I'm wrong but would you really call Slipknot a pop band? Well, that's weird to put them along Lady Gaga and likes of her. And also, it seems that there are only two music genres now: pop (every band that has some fans along certain people) and ...un-pop(?) or maybe true music? The paradox is that the un-pop music (which I'd expect to include massive rock and metal acts) is not very well known - if it is, then by default it becomes pop???

You do not know anything about this person other than the fact they do not like Paramore, so how can you judge? Also, encourging someone to self-harm is so wrong! Haters!

I can't stand people who like one and only one genre of music. I love bands that are way heavier than Paramore but most other people that do tend to hate everything else.

For heavens sake it's okay to prefer some kinds of music but how can you not appreciate other talent when you see it. The fact that Paramore are a popular band has nothing to do with the quality of their music but it definitely doesn't mean they're a bad band.

Learn to appreciate other bands... if not don't jump on every opportunity to slag them off. It's really rather sad.
