The K! Awards 2009 shortlist revealed!

The 2009 Awards will be held at a top secret London location on August 3 and this year's event will be hosted by Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

Slipknot and Metallica head up the nominations for the Kerrang! Awards 2009. Fresh from their triumphant Download festival headline appearance, the Iowan nontet have notched up six nominations (including two nominations for Best Single) while metal legends Metallica are nominated in five categories.

But only you can decide which of these metal titans will walk away with those much-coveted shiny K! trophies on the night. Or more likely, the following morning, given the ceremony's debauched reputation...

Yeah there are so many better bands (Protest The Hero for sure, their tours were reason alone to be noticed, same goes for Exit Ten, and their support Bury Tomorrow). I also wonder where Outcry Collective or The Computers are in best newcomer. And Rolo Tomassi, why are they not getting a mention? They too cool for Kerrang?

If you want good British metal, try bands like TesseracT, Crowning Glory and Blood Island Raiders. Sylosis were distinctly average when I saw them (although they did have the job of opening for Testament, which wasn't easy).

Gallows are totally amazing, 100 times better than Steel fuckin Panther who are only just getting big now instead of when that kind of music was actually fashionable and getting famous just by being a bunch of whores. And another thing, where is Middle Class Rut in the best International Newcomers section?? Kerrang started as a heavy metal magazine to branch away from punk, disco and other 80s music. So the fact that emos have raided kerrang and pushed away the bands that started kerrang is just fucked up. Emo is Pop-Punk,Screamo(mellodic Hardcore(hardcore is punk))the only good punk bands that seserve to be in these mags are cancer bats, every time i die and any othe non four chorded minor scale pop band. So for you to say that Metallica and MAIDEN! should move to another mag just because you fringed fucks don't think they belong here is just pure buttsecks.

Nearly all of these bands are my personal favourites....aside from the album 'Battle For The Sun' I would vote for Placebo all the way.
The rest have just as much going for them and I really don't mind who comes out on top when the results are in.
Good luck to them all but especially Green Day, Placebo, Shinedown, B4MV and Metallica.

You'll never make everyone happy with a shortlist of bands. Because Kerrang covers so much music, bands that people like are obviously gonna be missed out. Whether it's metal, screamo, pop-punk, "emo" or whatever that dominates the list there's always gonna be someone that complains.
Still, it amuses me that people are complaining about the pop-punk being in there.

You have bands up there such as you me at six and bring me the horizon, neither of which have done anything this year of any use to anyone, when bands such as Thunder (realeasing loads this year and working amazingly hard) that arent on there! The only fair one in best british is Gallows.

Actually, you're wrong there. Since the last Kerrang awards, You Me At Six have released their Debut album, 3 singles/videos, played lots of festivals and had 2 sold out UK tours in venues up to 3000 capacity. So yeah, get your facts right.

Guys, EVERYONE knows that the K awards are fixed to an extent. You're pretty dense if you only just worked that shit out.

For Kerrang to even be able to warrant having an awards ceremony they need to use bands who are popular in the media and are turning heads, regardless of whether or not some underground hardxcore metalhead voted for that band. Bands like You Me At Six and My Passion are currently making a stir, and so it's only natural for Kerrang to use this to their advantage and get more K readers.

It's simple. Kerrang needs money. If K uses bands that are popular with a young crowd, they will buy the magazine. As good as some of these smaller bands may be, it's just not economical for Kerrang to replace a well known band with a lesser known one.

So just stop complaining an dget over it yeah?

Okay, so its not a particularly good list of nominations, though I am VERY happy to see Placebo up fro Best vid, single and album (think they deserve vid + album, not single).

I Must say, best international Newcomers look a lil shit this year, but they'll do (mostly)

But to all the people moaning about "emo shit" and how the K! awards should be just metal bands: FUCK YOU. Metal is a genre which thrives on being different from conventional pop and heavier than rock, lots of other music types do that (yes including emo shit), so give the bands a break, Slayer can't fucking be around forever, Metalica neither, maybe you should stop living 20 years in music's past and try to move on a bit?

Whilst I will aceept all the bands on the nomination lists, there is just one that jerks my chain:

METRO FUCKING STATION.

K! is meant to be a rock / punk / metal mag (I'd but prodigy uner electropunk for this)

Yet you constantly cover Metro station, just to moan about them. Why bother? And why the fuck are they nominated?! they are a POP band, POP, not remotly the type of shit that belongs at a K! award (besides they probably wouldnt know what to do with a beer if they got handed one at the awards.)


I would have liked to see Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) up for an award I guess, maybe best international band, given all he's done for alternative busniess models in music online over the last year + a half, but ah well, c'est la vie...

I know you probably have to have larger bands at the show, and that's why you hid the numbers, but The Gaslight Anthem had under 200 votes around the time numbers were removed. (I love the band, but if they shouldn't be there...)

If the voting is just so people can enter the competition to go to the awards, why not just stop the charade, set up a seperate competition for the tickets and go straight to the shortlist?

I'll continue to get K! every week, but stuff like this would seriously make me reconsider doing so...

Well, I'm never really satisfied with these results. I'm gutted Innerpartysystem and Rolo Tomassi aren't there, both bands really deserving of it. Really glad Gaslight got a mention though.

However, my biggest problem is people voting for bands who haven't even done anything in the last year. People complained about Lostprophets not being there, they've not done a fucking thing except a few small shows since the last awards. Bullet have done one UK tour and spent most of the time in America since then, so they don't deserve to be nominated either. I just wish newer, more active bands were represented.

I mean , all their fans voted to ensure a place in the shortlist would probably be guaranteed as per usual .
Fair enough some of the bands belong there like slipknot and green day , but placebo really does NOT deserve such an award against bands like that .

Skimming through the comments, 30 seconds to mars and Lostprophets haven't done anything this year. Infact they're being plain lazy, doesn't take this long to write/record and release an album.

Everyone should vote for Gaslight Anthem because they are the only decent band up there, even Placebo, who were decent a couple of years ago, have lost their shine.

Seriously Kerrang, i don't even buy you anymore because every week it's the same shitty bands and the crap albums that you bum off. If I were to buy kerrang, there would be no word of any of the performances at glastonbury, for example BLUR. Fair enough, Blur are a 'topman' band for 'indie' kids but seriously, when did the world become so close minded as to stick to ONE genre of music? It's no use just saying 'oh I listen to metal and pop punk' because tbh they're not exactly miles apart from each other, they'd still fall under the category of rock.

And I bet Kerrang also fails to mention Bruce Springsteen, THE BOSS. I mean, if they bum off Gaslight Anthem so much then why do they fail to mention their influences? Springsteen, Tom Petty and Counting Crows. to name a few.

I remember the good ol' days, where Kerrang was metal to the fucking core. Now look. "You Me At Six", "Enter Shikari", "Generic Emo/pop band".

Kerrang should be covering bands like Onslaught, Venom, Legion of the Damned, Evile, Obituary, Korpiklaani, Gorgoroth, Carpathian Forest or Naglfar. Not these shitty little pop bands, like You Me at Fucking Six.

WTF No 30 STM

Okies it sounds like the list was made up by the staff at Kerrang and not by the millions of fans who voted for their fav bands! 30STM was listed originaly and we, the 30STM fans, know that with all their votes that they should have been listed but we want to know WHERE ARE THEY?????????
