Kerrang! Magazine 01/07/2009

In this week's Kerrang! magazine...

Killswitch Engage are one of America's most successful metal bands. Yet being in the spotlight freaks them out. In our exclusive cover story we get up close and personal with the world's most reluctant rock stars as they gear-up for the release of their new self-titled album.

Plus: The nominations for the Kerrang! Awards 2009 revealed in full! Slipknot clock up six nominations (including two for best single) while Metallica and Green Day notch-up six and two nominations respectively.

And: In a world exclusive interview former members of Evanescence dish the dirt on their new band We Are The Fallen, reclusive New York rockers Brand New hint at splitting up on their forthcoming album, 30 Seconds To Mars' fan summit rolls into London and Fear Factory tell us the reasons why they pulled out of Sonisphere.

K! head to France to catch-up with Monowar, Amon Amarth and more, Metro Station's Trace Cyrus tells us the songs that changed his life, Chris Cornell, Lars Ulrich, Dave Mustaine, Duff McKagan and more tell us what they're getting up to on their summer holidays, The Mars Volta relive their LA drug hell, meet Young Guns - your new favourite band and Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix reveals his struggle to stay sober.

And: New albums from Billy Talent, Darkest Hour, Clutch and more rated and reviewed, The Ghost Of A Thousand gear-up to rock the UK, and Anthrax's Scott Ian tells us the last thing he wants to do before he dies...

Free posters! Featuring Steel Panther, Placebo, DevilDriver, The Gaslight Anthem and Opeth.

SCREW METRO STATION!!

Ok people moan about Fall Out Boy and stuff being in your magazine saying I thought it was a metal magazine if they want more metal go buy Metal Hammer but why oh why have Metro Station in so many forms of your company you gave them a rubbish album review and a terrible live review so why do you insist on putting them all over Kerrang on TV, The Magazine and the Web.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for featuring The 30STM Summit in the mag! I have just one question, and that is that you took so many pictures that day, and I was wondering if there'd be any way we could get hold of the ones that didn't make the mag!

Next week's issue

I've just finished reading this week's issue, and yet again I am annoyed now that I've seen what's coming next week. STOP GIVING US GREEN DAY POSTERS!!
We've had so many in the recent weeks, do we need another?! I do like Green Day but don't you think it's time you got over the obsession and featured some other bands? You're almost featuring them as much as the Gallows. Please K!, let's have some variation!

Steadlür

I'm rather annoyed at the fact that Steadlür only got two k's for their performance in london. Sure it was a small crowd who sang along, but they're a fairly new band on the scene so give them a break. People need to hear more about them in K! as i think they're a pretty awesome band. At least they had the guts to sing up there.

More?

Not a bad issue but not entirely good, i mean, metro station? and green day - again. stop forcing the larger names at us and maybe look at the more metal bands K! was once known for. Screamo bands could make things interesting, focus on bands like blessthefall or panic!at the disco once again - it'd be nice to have a break from green day and such and such.

A fool and his money are soon parted, they say.

It's a fact that teeny, tweener, pop-loving, idiot children are the first to spend money on fads, trends and all things considered "cool".

This is why My Chemical Romance merchandise sells so spectacularly.

This is also why they and Metro Station feature so heavilly in Kerrang!.

Kerrang is not just a magazine, it is a business. As such, it must make profit - if a business does not make profit, it fails. That, dear friends, is why Kerrang has to feature "flavour of the month" acts so frequently - so that the fools will part with their money (easilly, no doubt) and Kerrang will cash in and keep running as a business.

Like it or not, those are the times we live in, and this is how capitalism works. Supply and demand people, supply and demand.

The only way to stop this assault on our senses of taste and decency is to let Kerrang know that we are unhappy, know why we are unhappy, and vote with our feet. If everyone who reads Kerrang is sick of pop acts gracing its pages, then e-mail them and start buying Metal Hammer until K! sees the error of its ways and reverts back to being a magazine for punk, rock and metal fans.

brand new breaking up, seriously?
that would be devastating.

i do hope you give them more magazine space, especially with the new album out in the near future. Honestly, for those who may not be familiar with them, give them a listen, or try to see a show; i've never seen a better live act - they're awesome.

i suppose that coverage may be difficult though, given that there are fools like the ones above me, screaming out for MCR posters. And dot dot curve??? do us all a favour and go away.

I enjoy Brand New, but I've seen three better bands live in the last month. (The same month in which i saw Brand New, incidentally.) They're not great live.

how the mighty has fallen

hello kerrang magazine i am a former reader of your mag from 1995 to early 2001 i bought kerrang most weeks and collected the old ones from years ago including issue number 3 from september 1981
i,ve been a metalhead since 1991 and am dismayed at how bad you have become gone are the good old days when you used to be a heavy rock/metal magazine you now waste time covering shite nu-metal bands and worse emo bands while slagging off proper metal bands i dont listen to stale trends i listen to decent stuf. you could at least have the dignity to stop slagging off manowar and other fantastic power metal bands, i was at hellfest a few weeks ago and i can tell you that most of the bands that played were ace the worst band of the weekend was m manson who was so bad he got booed on i plus many other from scotland made the long trip to hellfest to watch decent bands and get decent merch why do you think over 3000 fans from the uk went to hellfest instead of the crap download festival in all honesty who in right mind is going to pay money to watch limp bizkit fred durst was a twit back in the late 90s and is still a fuckwit now btw do you realise it is because of magazines like you that manowar have reused to play in the uk since 1996 you can keep your emo pish and nu-metal rubbish in my opinion you are a disgrace to heavy metal shame on you for wasting time on stale trends and ignoring the good stuf this is a rant for a good reason your magazine has sucked big time for years best thing you can do is disband also on a final comment did you know that when trivium play onstage they mime they dont sing all those kids have been conned by these silly people just so that you know i will never read kerrang or should i say kerrap ever again because you suck

The "New Evanescence?"

"We are the Fallen"... I just don't know what to say, how sad can Ben Moody really get? Evanescence are a fantastic band and the way they phrased this was as if Evanescence have reformed minus Amy Lee. This is untrue, you managed to spare a sentance at the end of the article to mention that Amy Lee made an announcement saying that they are still very much a band, and are making a new album. Basically what's going on here is Ben Moody realised he missed his long lost Evanescence fame and decided that himself and the other previous Evanescence members would form a new band, and the title would be a clear pun. We are the FALLEN! Hello! Fallen? Clearly supposed to hint towards Evanescence's debut album entitled Fallen. Carly Smithson has a great voice, I agree with this, but she lacks the haunting and powerful voice Amy Lee has. I think that Ben Moody and the other members should really get a grip on themselves, form a band that will take the world by surprise. It's pathetic just to try to imitate what has been left behind.
