Nelson: "I was never ill!"

Former Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson has issued a statement to Blabbermouth.net via his manager, addressing the turn of events that led to his dismissal from the band.

"On the advice of counsel, I have remained silent to the statements issued by Anthrax in recent days and now must address these issues to my loyal fans and others," reads the statement. "I want to set the record straight.

"I was never seriously ill or sick at all, as reported in Anthrax's July 17 press release. This extremely inflammatory statement hurt me tremendously. This statement misled fans, friends and family members into believing that I was seriously ill when I was not. I was not aware such a statement was being issued and it came as a total shock to me, as I'm sure it did to all of you. It was the other band members' decision to cancel the tour dates, not mine. I was ready, willing and able to do my job.

"After issuing the press release, the other band members decided, on their own accord, that I had 'resigned' from the band. I never resigned from the band.

"Even in view of this action and stance taken by the band, as late as earlier today I made it clear that I was ready willing and able to continue to fulfill my obligations. After that offer was made, the most recent press release was issued which announced my 'confirmed' departure from the band. I was not aware of the contents of this release until after it was issued, nor was I aware that Anthrax was canceling the European and Slipknot tours.

"I regret any disappointment and confusion this situation has caused."

The remaining band members will team up with former vocalist and "good friend" John Bush for a one-off performance on August 1 at Knebworth.

The band's forthcoming album, Worship Music, has been pushed back from its October release date.

If what he says is true, sounds like he was well and truly fucked over...
Christ what is it with Anthrax and their vocalists!?

Eh?!

He's not in the band anymore?!! When did this all happen?!

Sounds like he was just forced out gradually. Personally, I never liked his voice on Anthrax stuff, made it sound too much like Pantera, and not like the Anthrax.

But still, I was looking forward to new material with him, but I guess they'll be re-recording the vocals with someone else now. That's probably why the album's been pushed back. Hopefully it'll be John Bush...

Anthrax

Why the fuck did they ever let Bush go? They should have hung onto that guy for dear life.
W.C.F.Y.A was a phenomenal album, all they had to do was not take an age following it up.
Get him back in permanent and be grateful if he comes back.

Blame Sharon "The Bitch" Osbourne, for originally wanting to get Joey Belladonna back in Anthrax for the Ozzfest line up a few years back, that was when Bush was turfed out and cast aside...I don't blame John one bit for not coming back into the fold tbh, after Belladonna told the band he didn't want to stay with them permanently, when they did that brief tour with the original line up. They do seem to give their vocalists some stick don't they? Nearly as bad as Spinal Tap and their drummers :-D Anthrax, sort yer shit out, get a decent vocalist back in the fookin band and get the frikkin album out fer fooks sake....it's not rocket science is it lads really? Cheers \m/

Anthrax

I don't want Bush back in Anthrax. He's far better off in Armored Saint - a band he should never have left in the first place.
