According to the Associated Press, the student at the centre of the "Marilyn Manson inspired" school shooting at Cut Off Middle School in Louisiana passed away at Terrebonne General Medical Center last Saturday (May 23).
15-year-old Justin Doucet is alleged to have walked into a seventh-grade English class shortly before 9AM on May 19 and fired a gun belonging to his father at a teacher's head before turning the weapon on himself.
Pupil Coley Gaspard, 14, told press that the gunman ordered the teacher to say "Hail Marilyn Manson", before discharging the gun above her head. The teacher escaped unharmed.
This is not the first time that the press have used Manson as a scapegoat for school violence. In April 1999, the vocalist was subject to blame in the aftermath of the Columbine High School massacre, in Littleton, Colorado. Two students - Eric Harris (18) and Dylan Klebold (17) - claimed the lives of 13 people and injured a further 21 students in April 1999, before committing suicide. Hysterical press reports suggested that the pair were inspired to go on a murdering spree after listening to Manson's albums.
Manson's new album, The High End Of Low, is out now.
