Manic Street Preachers' new album Journal For Plague Lovers - which will be released next Monday (May 18) - has been banned by several British supermarkets due to its cover artwork.
The record, which is based on previously unused lyrics by guitarist Richard James Edwards who tragically went missing in 1995, features British artist Jenny Saville's 2005 painting, Stare, on the cover. Saville's painting Strategy (South Face/Front Face/North Face) was used as the cover for The Manics' 1994 album, The Holy Bible, which was the last album to feature Edwards before his disappearance.
"Supermarkets won't accept the album cover, which I am really startled at," bassist Nicky Wire told The Guardian. "You can have the Pussycat Dolls poledancing, but you can't have our album cover."
