Manics Street Preachers album banned!

Manic Street Preachers' new album Journal For Plague Lovers - which will be released next Monday (May 18) - has been banned by several British supermarkets due to its cover artwork.

The record, which is based on previously unused lyrics by guitarist Richard James Edwards who tragically went missing in 1995, features British artist Jenny Saville's 2005 painting, Stare, on the cover. Saville's painting Strategy (South Face/Front Face/North Face) was used as the cover for The Manics' 1994 album, The Holy Bible, which was the last album to feature Edwards before his disappearance.

"Supermarkets won't accept the album cover, which I am really startled at," bassist Nicky Wire told The Guardian. "You can have the Pussycat Dolls poledancing, but you can't have our album cover."

manics

thats absolute bullshit.... i agree with nicky's comment, half the shit in the chart these days is based on sex in one way or the other, whether is visually or lyrically.

MSP Album.

That's absolute fucking bullshite!
Since when is that painting offensive??
And too right about PCD, they strut around in almost nothing, pole dancing, and that's acceptable and the Jenny Saville's painting isn't? I think not.

plain daft

Supermarkets always seem to be preaching double standards on what to stock on their shelves.

But to ban the Manics latest album whilst the pretty faces of Kelly Clarkson and the PCD are allowed to be stacked onto the shelves for the buying public is daft.

Not quite true...

It's NOT been banned at all...they've just had to use a plain slip-case for the cover. Which sucks, I agree...they can have computer gams with people being shot etc but not an oil painting of a child done in browns and reds? Ridiculous.

But no, it's not been actually banned...get it right K.

People shouldn't be outraged by this.

They really should be outraged by the fact that when Richey James jumped off the bridge, he wasn't handcuffed to the other band members.
