The Burning Question 03/12/2008

This week's Burning Question:

METALLICA FRONTMAN JAMES HETFIELD HAS NAMED DIO, LAYNE STALEY AND ROB HALFORD AS HIS TOP THREE METAL VOCALISTS... WHO ARE YOURS AND WHY?

Post your comments below and you could appear in next week's Kerrang! magazine.

Please remember to include a link to your MySpace profile so that, if we use your response, we can print a picture of you.

Top 3 vocalists

It's hard to choose, but I think those that have a good range or a versatile voice are the best so I'll say:

Mike Patton
Corey Tailor
Bruce Dickinson

Dani Filth, obviously because Cradle of FIlth are my FAVOURITE band and seeinhim live was AMAZING. Then maybe Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir and Maynard James Keenan of Tool. Its quite a tough one really.

3 best vocalists

1. randy from lamb of god, its fuckin dirty, angry and sounds fuckin awsome in the phat metal songs that lamb of god churn out!

2. claudio sanchez: because this man can hit the highest notes known to man and it sounds real good, epecially with the vocal harmonies that he lays down to top it off.

3. marilyn manson: he just has one of those voices, he sounds very origional with it and you can recognise his voice anywere, mr manson just has a really good deep sounding voice which goes with the gothic rock/metal genre!

theres so many i could of chose but i decided to choose three very differant people!

Burning Question - 3 Top Vocalist

For me i would have to say that my top 3 vocalist are the following: Ville Valo, purely because he is jsut damn sexy, and he has a beautiful voice and produces such good songs and lyrics. He's always been a big imsperation to me and is my biggeswt hero of themall, even though he has been through his drinking problem over the lastyear i think he has coped rather well with it all and is improving his performances when it comes to live gigs.
Secondly, M.Shadows, again another damn sexy frontman, i love how he can scream live and in his songs are so imsperatinal towards people, i was very dissapointed last year how i didnt get to meet them him when i went to go see Avenged Sevenfold in concert, but i was lucky enough to met 3 other members of the group. I love how Matt doesnt put up with crap from anybody and yet he is so down to earth and hard working when it comes to his music.
Finally my third and final vocalist i'd have to go for someone like Cristina from Lacuna Coil, as i think that its harder for female vocalist to get into the "rockstar" lifestyle as you dont see many female metal singers these days, i'd love to be able to sing like her as she has talent, and yet she is very pretty, bitch. Luckly ive managed to see all these 3 vocalist live and are all excellent live, and would be the best fucking day of my life if i ever got to meet any of these 3.

Top three metal vocalists

Bruce Dickinson......why!! just listen to the beginning of "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

Rob Flynn.......why!! I love his rawness and the true feeling he gives to metal...and no new album in my opinion has beaten "The Blackening".

The third is hard for me to choose......Corey Taylor....Why!! This man i use to help my vocals before a gig...The way he use screaming and singing, in my opinion is awesome.....

Thats it I'm off to get train to see slipknot...laters..

My top 3 are definitely

Cory Taylor, because he's so influencial not just as a vocalist and lyricist, but as a human being as well.

Rob Flynn, because Machine Head are one of the best metal bands of all time, and he has so much passion.

and Alex Varkatzas from Atreyu, because he has a certain uniqueness in his screaming that seperates himself from other vocalists.

so many great vocalists in metal but if i had to choose just 3 they'd be:

(in no perticular order)

Jonny Lindkvist of nocturnal rites
Tobias Sammet of Edguy and Avantasia
Tim "ripper" Owens

3 extremely gifted vocalists

How 'bout Danzig, Robert Plant and Black Sabbath era Ozzy. Danzig because he's got that great, evil bluesy voice and because he's perfected that gothic imagery. A lot of people might argue with me putting Robert Plant on here but Zeppelin was one of the first bands to ever the term 'Metal' applied to them. I picked Plant because he's the embodiment of Heavy Metal sexuality. No woman can resist his embarassing falsetto wail. And at the end of the day isn't that what its all about? I can't beleive more people haven't picked Ozzy yet. Come on people, How can anyone argue with the original Death Metal vocalist? Plus, Ozzy's a freakin' survivor, ya know, he deserves some recognition.

Maynard James Keenan of Tool : Because his vocal range never fails to empress and his style is so unique. You just know it's him when he's singing.

Serj Tankian of System of a Down : I just love Serj's voice. The way he can sound soothing and relaxed, and then the next he can just rip through your ears with such power.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails : Not such a metal vocalist, but NIN do have metal elements. Tracks like "Starfuckers Inc." and "Head Like a Hole", to the more recent "The Hand That Feeds". These songs you can really feel Trent putting his all into.

Top Three Metal Vocalists

1) Aaron Stainthorpe, the brilliant vocalist of My Dying Bride! He's what every Doom Metal Vocalist wants to sound like.
2) Tom Araya from Slayer, I don't think I should have to explain why, Slayer are one of the most influencial bands, Tom Araya is an amazing vocalist!
3) Vincent Cavanagh, the god from Anathema, have you listened to "Are You There", this is the most powerful, emotional song out there! Silky voice that makes my hairs stand on end!
Of course there are other vocalists but you asked for three... Tough fuckers!

the burning question.

1. Corey Taylor, for the pure fact he can do death screams like no one else, and also is an amazing singer, when you listen to some of stone sour's stuff and then slipknot's you wouldn't realise it's him, as his voice can be powerful & soft.

2. M Shadow's probably in his earlier years in sounding the seventh trumpet & waking the fallen, purely the fact he does sing and scream at the same time, and it sounds awesome. even now in avenged sevenfold's recent album's he still sounds great but it doesn't quite have the same edge as it did in say "second heartbeat" :)

3. Serj Tankian i would say, because in my opinion he has the most unique voice in the whole metal scene, you could easily pick out his voice as the most poweful, and almost ripping. but then again, it can be quite emotional and soft. which gives him the ability to make the listeners feel more intact to the song.

2. Tim Lambesis from As I Lay Dying not only a very succesful band but Tims vocals are just METAL!
3. Nothing is more metal than Nathan Explosion of Metalocalypse not only does he rule the world but his vocals are just downright brutal!

my top 3 metal vocalists are and why:

Phil Anselmo, do I really need to say why? One word: PANTERA LEGEND.

Jonathan Davis lead singer of Korn, Korn are frickin awesome and I think he doesn't get enough credit.

And finally like everyone else on this page: Dani Filth just because I saw Cradle of Filth last December and well quite frankly, they blew me away. Amazing gig, he lights up the stage.

Satyr Wongraven (Satyricon) - because when he gets going it's impossible not to get completely caught up in his passion for his music.
Anders Høyvik Hidle (Tristania) - a largely overlooked vocalist for reasons I can't understand because he has the most amazing vocal skill. When I first heard him live my jaw almost hit the floor because I was so in awe!
Mikael Ã…kerfeldt (Opeth) - one of the most gorgeous voices in metal. End of.

The Burning Question

1. Kurt Cobain, Totally heart felt emotion pushed out past his lungs up through his throat and in the ear of everyone who has the sence to listen, Total legend.
2. Corey Taylor, Despite his new hair and mask looking like Dr cox off scrubs,
his voice plays lead role in slipknop/Stone Sour, one minute, MENACE the next, POWER, his range has no end.
3. Jack Black, NOW!!, your thinkinf what a joke this guy is, but he has range style of his own, and power,
just because his songs have comedy values dont mean hes a bad singer.
I believe thats what the world of metal is missing, laughter. Well thats my 3 :)

The Burning Question 03/12/08

Satyr Wongraven (Satyricon) - because when he gets going it's impossible not to get completely caught up in his passion for his music.
Anders Høyvik Hidle (Tristania) - a largely overlooked vocalist for reasons I can't understand because he has the most amazing vocal skill. When I first heard him live my jaw almost hit the floor because I was so in awe!
Mikael Ã…kerfeldt (Opeth) - one of the most gorgeous voices in metal. End of.

3 favorite singers

BRUCE DICKINSON: He has an amazing voice as everyone should know. It's really hard to describe but his voice really is soothing.

ROB HALFORD: Rob is like what I said for Bruce except Rob sings with agression like on the Painkiller tune. And on most of his tunes he can hold a really high note for a freakin long time. Holding notes like he does are legendary by themselves. He doesnt stick with one style which is good. You can always except something different from Rob.

JAMES HETFIELD: I picked Jaymz for his agression. On the first 3 'Tallica albums he sings with power and anger in his voice. It sounds really good. Sounds like hes yelling but still singing. Listen to anything on the "Ride the Lightning" album and you will hear what I'm trying to say. Absolutely amazing.

my top 3 metal vocalists are and why:

Phil Anselmo, do I really need to say why? One word: PANTERA LEGEND.

Jonathan Davis lead singer of Korn, Korn are frickin awesome and I think he doesn't get enough credit.

And finally like everyone else on this page: Dani Filth just because I saw Cradle of Filth last December and well quite frankly, they blew me away. Amazing gig, he lights up the stage.

3 Best vocalists

It's a bit difficult when it comes to choosing only 3 great voices, but I formed a small group of great voices of rock:

David Coverdale: For being a great icon among rockstars, passed by the band Deep Purple, he has an incredible voice that dominated and still dominates many of his songs, despite the move the years he still has much breath to sing and delight for more times.

Klaus Meine: Wow! This is rather an icon of "Voice of Rock!" A soft voice, while powerful, and still does much success. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" wouldn't be the same without the voice of Mr Klaus.

Axl Rose: Don't cease to be remembered
as Mr. Voice, when it comes to Guns N 'Roses.

Corey Taylor, end of. It's not just his voice, it's the raw emotion he puts into his singing. Also, I love how mental he is, and the rest of Slipknot. You can tell I'm still on a high from seeing them last night.
Also, Ville Valo, although I'm not overly keen on HIM, and good old Alx.
Another awesome singer, although not metal, is Brian Molko.

M. Shadows. He's just got an amaznig voice and he uses it well.
Oli Sykes. He may be skinny, but that lad has a great pair of lungs...

Fave Metal voices.

Well, first ofall. COMPLETELY obvious, Oli Sykes. He's just amazing. If you don't agree with me, then you could NEVER have listened to a BMTH song.

Papa Roach, Papa Roach, PAPA ROACH! Jacoby Shaddix is THE best singer in the entire genre and I will argue with anyone who disagrees with me :)

And least but CERTAINLY not least. Anthony Green; the former voice of Saosin; a BRILLIANT band that you NEED to have heard.

Top 3 metal vocalists

1) James Hetfield (Metallica)- He's the best because Metallica are the best band ever

2) Rob Flynn (Machine Head)/ Anders Friden (In Flames) - Its very hard to pick between them as they are both talented and use screaming and singing in songs

3) Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir) - He is a really talented musician and also really talented vocalist

3 best

i think its hard to judge because everyone prefers different styles but also some people chose there favourite not for thier skills as a singer good or bad but a conection to the singer. My favourite singers aren't always the most taltened but its because of thier story their past basically who they are and what they are like.

also its hard to judge if you see them live because what they're are like recorded is nothing like the live version

i dont think there is no point saying whos the best becasue it depends who you are.

1. Jon Bon Jovi. The ultimate showman of the best band in the world.

2. David Coverdale. He has a fantastic range as he has shown especially on live performances (see Live In The Still Of The Night at the end of Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City).

3. James Hetfield. The vocal king of Thrash.

3 best vocallists?

Corey Taylor : the passion he has, it's conveyed through every syllable. His voice has a range that not many people challenge in my opinion too. That and I'm still on a high from seeing them Monday :D

James Hetfield: Need I say any more?

Robb Flynn: Same reason as Corey Taylor.

1. Robert Plant - One of the best singers of all time.

2. Trent Reznor - Completely unique, no one else can write melodies like NIN's.

3. Chester Bennington - One of the few singers who can both sing and scream equally well.

3 Favourite Vocalists

1) - Maynard James Keenan of tool - Because he is a brilliant singer, can hit a variety of notes and is overall 'different'/unique and brilliant and can change the style he sings in at whim - such as a heavy rock/progressive tone with tool. lighter and more soulful with APC and then follows more of a 'hiphop (whatever)' style with puscifer. He is also incredibly intelligent with the lyrics he writes

2) Claudio Sanchez - Very different to anything i have ever heard before, i usually hate falsetto but he absolutely nails it and makes it listen-able/lovable. Again he is also very smart with his lyrics and i also like the fact that the lyrics in every song from every album follows the story of the armory wars :)

3) This ones out of Eric Johanson from a pretty unknown band called'Cire' and Chino Moreno of 'Deftones.... I prefer Eric Johanson though, Singing wise their on par just differ in style, Eric Johanson is a very intelligent man and writes alot of music based on the economy and the government and the like, his voice is remiscent of Maynards, so it deffinately scores points with me, over all he is a great singer, and if you were to mix RATM with TOOL youd get Cire ;)

1) M Shadows - He has shown from their first album to the newest one, that he can sing, scream, growl, whatever. That's something.
2) WiL Francis - Having heard him on CD and also live, he lives up to what he sounds like on the CDs. There are too many singers now who don't.
3) Amy Lee - She has an amazing range and a beautiful voice.
