The Burning Question 13/11/2008

This week's Burning Question:

THE EXPECTATION SURROUNDING THE UPCOMING RELEASE OF TWILIGHT – THE TEEN-VAMPIRE MOVIE BASED ON THE NOVELS OF STEPHANIE MEYER – HAS RESULTED IN RIOTING AND HYSTERIA ACROSS THE USA. ARE BRIT FANS AS EXCITED ABOUT THE UK CINEMA RELEASE ON DECEMBER 19?

Post your comments below and you could appear in next week's Kerrang! magazine.

Please remember to include a link to your MySpace profile so that, if we use your response, we can print a picture of you.

I have read the twilight books and they are awesome and im really excited about the film coming out. As to the fact of people rioting in america, i mean what the hell?!! Its a film for gods sake what the point in being so immature you actually argue with someone over a film?!! I just don't understand it at all. Those who are rioting just need to except the fact that the film is coming out and you need to get over it because in my opinion your all pathetic =] woo bring on the 19th december!! If you are a twilight fan its nothing to be ashamed off because you shouldn't care what people think of you, because i sure don't. And what bus me is that people say its a new harry potter and if they actually read the harry potter books and the twilight books they would see that they are completely different except for the fact that they both leave you wanting more of the story at the end of the books thats all!!!!

So, I'm a pretty avid Twilight fan. But that whole incident in America was completely immature. It started because a bunch of girls didn't want to move out of the line so they could open the doors. STFU. It's completely embarrassing to tell someone you're a fan of the series because they automatically think you're a 12 year old that foams at the mouth at the mention of Edward Cullen. I'd like to point out that there are mature Twilight fans. And that not everyone is head over heels for Edward. JACOB FTW.

Judging by the amount of publicity and people i talk too, i can see that much hype for this film within the UK. I have not read the book but would love to see the film because the trailer looks cool and another vampire film yeah!!!!!

Hysteria?

The books are good, and I'm looking forward to the film being released, but I just don't think Stephenie Meyer has as much of a following over here as she does in the States.
Mind you, I'm not saying that if they had some Twilight event in the UK there wouldn't be people queuing for hours. Hey, you might even get the odd 12 year old fangirl screaming "OH EM GEEZ, I LOVE YOU EDWARD!!!1"
But no riots. Brits love to queue too much.

Whatev's. I heed for America. They seem to always dramatize everything. Pumped on the movie, I've seen the trailers but not really read the books. They seem pretty exciting.

But aye. F*ck up America, no one gies a sh*t.

Americans get overexcited about near enough everything. Although there is a lot of hype behind the release of the movie I'm sure us Brits will have a little more composure!

haha riots at a movie release?
and all because of being asked to move back a bit in the queue.
well i cant imagine any brit doing that, i mean we just wouldnt because a) we could win an olympic event just for queueing, and b) we're just too impassive and moany to even be bothered to start a riot.

that said, you should really notice that paramore did the theme song for this, and their last album was called riot....maybe it was paramore who caused the riot?

To be honest, it doesn't seem to be very well-known in England, I didn't even hear of it until I read the book was being adapted into a film.
Americans have always been over fanatic e.g. Batman, Harry Potter etc...

I don't think it's just Americans, really, kids these days are crazy everywhere. If you give them something to obsess about. Rabid fandoms are the hot movement of the 21st century, apparently.

I'm a big fan of the story, but to those of you who called Meyer a fantastic writer - sorry, but you apparently don't know great writing when you see it... Meyer's stories themselves are great, but her writing is full of loopholes, written in painfully simple language and plagued by an omnipresent sense of the writer being in love with her own work. Sorry, but it's true. I love Twilight, but I can't see why everyone thinks Meyer's writing is so special.

I personally think us brits had the short endof the stick, I'm a huge fan of the twilight series it was just unfortunate that stephanie meyer was indeed american, so they got it first. I dont think there are as many fans in britain as there are in america probably because we're 3 times smaller than the U.S.A, We also have self restraint! I don't think we would like to make ourselves look ridiculously stupid over the release of a film, which is just a film, don't get me wrong i'm hugely excited for the film but i'd never create a riot over it, like those girls in america!

BURNIG QUESTION

i fink dat the brits wont go as sick as the usa, i mean, its a book turned into a film, nearly all book-film combose are crap as they don't follow the story line and the directors change it to make it more sutible for a wider audiance, and you can't do that with a vampire movie!!! :)

Hell no! The books are absolutly brilliant, and there is no way the film can live up to it! I've seen the clips, with a book like Twilight, you can't make a film out of it! Its all down to each individual persons interpretation of it. I don't even want to go see it...

I'm totally excited about it, like madly excited, but I think some people are taking it too far! Riots and mass hysteria in the US-- it's a bit ridiculous. I was one of the first people to read the books and this whole hype was never around when people weren't aware of the upcoming film, and its a bit annoying that people are reading the books just to follow a trend.

All Americas RETARDS

Ultimately, being an original fan of the Twilight series before the teasers spread and infected the world im pretty pissed to hear that the book that i adore has turned into 'the next Harry Potter'. Wtf, first of all, Stephenie Meyer's Twilight shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence let alone the same category with 'Barry Sucker'. Secondly, the Americans? I'm suprised they got past the first chapter before their illiteracy skills sent them running for the closest fast food store in distress. Blowing everything out of proportion is what they're known to do; a book about vampires and werewolves? Ah, we must run and penetrate the closest person with a feeble resemblence to Edward Cullen before we regain normality! I've been reading kerrang! for three years now and never have i been more appreciative of a 'burning question'. Plus, Paramore contribute to the soundtrack, where's the problem?

the only reson that everyone is like YAY TWILIGHT is coz paramore are on the soundtrack

Admittedly, I've never read the books, but it just seems a bit immature for me. The words 'teen' and 'vampire' just shouldn't be seen together... it just won't be gory enough!

I havent actually read the book- but I've noticed a lot of younger people love it- like people around 12 or 13 and are obsessed with the main character. Its not really my kind of thing..

I found the book to horrendous to finish more then the first page, and quite frankly, the film looks just as bad. There is no force on this planet that could get me exited about this tweenie, pseudo vampire shite.

Love the series, Stephanie Meyer's writing is awesome. Can't wait for the film, but I think Joey Jordison should play Edward. JOEY CULLEN; FTW. ^^

I'm really excited - I'm a fan of the series, but the director of the movie, Catherine Hardwicke was involved with awesome films like Lords of Dogtown, so I think it'll be pretty good!

Unlike basically everyone here, I am dreading the Twilight movie and the riots it will cause. Personally, when I read the book I thought the characters were fake and had almost no connection to a person's real life. The book has already caused more drama than its deserves I would say and the movie will just make that worse. Bella is whinny and annoying, what was she ten ? I thought she was supposed to be like 17 or 18. And Edward ? Ughh, no idea how he is perfect, overprotective, melodramatic, annoying smart-alic. But to all you fans have fun mobbing the theatres while I try to hide in my basement and avoid being dragged there by my now Twilight obsessed friends.

Stop insulting Americans. We aren't as stupid as you think.

Stop insulting Twilight. If you don't like it, shut up and leave us fans alone. The movie is something for us to get stoked about. If you aren't stoked, suck it and go away. Because we don't want to hear it.

I AM in the USA....watch the news all the time and had no idea of any such rioting. I accidently found it on the search engine!! As for the US bashers... You are bashing some fellow ancesters. Some of us can't help the way our country is run, nor do we like it.
BUT I would much rather be here than there!! :)

But none of these teenies would give a shit if Paramore weren't on the soundtrack. =/
Or if Edward Cullen wasn't "0MGGzZz sOo FiitT! xx".

I honestly loved the books. Im expecting the movie to be crap though but im still going to watch it. Books are always the best haha, no life?,Nerd?..Me? why yes hahaha. The Twilight plot was fascinating it was fresh and original,I'd hate to see the movie become stupid and crappy but im still willing to watch it. All in it for Stephenie Meyers and Paramore :) and of course I must see the cast in action if their acting is bad and i mean BAD i will be very much disappointed and disgusted.

I am excited. I admit they're a poorly written series, but it's the storyline that captured me. I'm a sucker for romances even though I don't like vampires. excuse the pun.

I think the movie will be a disappointment though. Like w/ HP I was proper excited for some of the movies, but they were a let down. I can't help but be excited each time though.

Better Casting.

I can't wait for the film, but theres no way it can compete against the books. I'm currently reading 'Breaking Dawn' its amazing.
However me and my friend don't think they've casted the actors right, Edward Cullen doesn't look how we've imagined him and Bella Swan looks more like an anorexic model from vouge than a chubby modern day teenager.
But lets not leave actors bumming our dreams, I can't wait for the film!! Although, i think its being to comercialised.
Stephanie Myers is a Genius!!

TwiSHITE!

Seriously this must be the most over hyped film if I've heard about ever. It's almost as bad as half the sad emo teeny boppers going mad about My Chemical Romance.

I hate this book and have created numerous groups against it and joined all which already exist.

The film... i couldn't care less! I reckon I'll go with the people who like it just to piss them off right the way through it because that's what I'm like.

Also I'm glad it comes out in America first and I'm actually going to actively torrent it and show people it at school. Piss them right off it would! :P

I absolutely despise the book and film. I mean since when have Vampires not had fangs? It's insulting. How could you pierce the skin without fangs?

Overall shit.

Hence the new name: TwiSHITE.

Twilight is gay!

Nicklin. You got it all wrong.

The vampires are vampires but with no fangs, and they're vegetarians.

In other words normal vegetarians. :P

And i hope that film is shit and misses out half the story line like the Harry Potter films do.

We should well make a video of us on youtube burning a twilight book - Nathan has one i think. T.T

Haha.

Yeah, twilight is a dodgy craze going around - and i just basically want everyone to be disappointed with the film.

I personally think its a great story line, how fun would it be to read about vegetarian vampires, of which don't suck blood and have no fangs.

It sounds completeely retarded to be honest. As if some five year old thought of it. =]

Comment back, nicklin.

Yeah.

Our school has a whole group totally obsessed with the TwiSHITE series and to be honest it's pathetic the way they go on.

We steal the book, pass it around ourselves and they go mental. It's sad, seriously they should get lives.

Yeah.. seriously this film seems so pathetic and as Ryan said probably will miss half the storyline out.

And as a final though Little Vampire is an immense film about vampires... I wouldn't be surprised if it's better than TwiSHITE.

Fuck TwiSHITE. :)

Loads of my friends have read twilight and I refuse to (not just cos i hate reading) because it seems to brainwash people into getting Obsessive Cullen Disorder and I don't want that! I'm going to see the movie with my friends at my friend's Tilight party but I'm so scared about getting obsessed. What;s so good about it anyway?!? From what I hear Edward Cullen sounds like a twat!

The series of books are brilliant its wether the films can live up to all the hype. Films are hardly ever as good as the books because they cant include as much detail, but heyy if they do it right then the result should be pretty amazing. And im sure the British kids will be just as excited, lets just hope they can keep them selves under control, i mean they have to wait longer, excitement to see the latest heart throb might bubble over :\

Twilight!!!!!

I absolutely adore Stephenie Meyer's books. Not only are Twilight Vampire Romance, but they have such an emotional content, it appeals to all types of readers. I was the first to read the series at my school, and now the librarian has had to buy more copies of the books, as they are in demand all the time.
if anyone is interested, Stephenie Meyer has also written Host. This is a very thought provoking and emotional book.
I wish her all the best with any other books she might be working on. All of my friends and I are looking forward to seeing the movie.
