In yet another twist surrounding the release of Guns N' Roses long-awaited album Chinese Democracy, reports are surfacing today about potential legal action between the band and soda company Dr. Pepper.
Earlier this year, Dr. Pepper promised every American a free can of drink if Guns N' Roses did release their album in 2008.
With the successful release of the album then following on November 23/24 this year, the company have attempted to stay true to their promise, and issue coupons for a free can through their website to all US citizens.
Guns N' Roses however, have called in their lawyers to attack the soda giant. In a letter to to Dr. Pepper CEO Larry Young, Axl Rose’s lawyer Alan S. Gutman writes:
"As we all now know, Dr. Pepper created an expansive and highly-publicized advertising campaign based solely on the exploitation of my clients’ legendary reputation. In and of itself this campaign brazenly violated our clients’ rights in numerous respects.
Had you wished to engage in a commercial tie-in with our clients, you should have negotiated a legitimate arrangement instead of hijacking their rights without payment. Rest assured, this misappropriation will not be free.”
