30 Seconds To Mars win big at MTV Europe Awards

30 SECONDS TO MARS picked up two gongs at the MTV Europe Music Awards on November 6.

The group won the Rock Out and Video Star awards for their track A Beautiful Lie. Frontman Jared Leto’s victory speech included a shout-out to newly elected US president Barack Obama.

Haha, completely agree with you, mtv is barely a shadow of what it used to be, those awards were the biggest pile of shit i've seen mtv come up with in years (and that include the hills).
Unfortunately Kerrang may be heading down the ill fated road of mtv... watch out...

I watched the whole thing on MTV last night! They totally deserved it and they were well good co-hosts.

Well, I think the video for Beautiful Lie is fantastic. From an artistic perspective, I mean. So, they deserved that one at least.

I wasn't really watching the gala but it was on in the background...still, I didn't think they were very good co-hosts; didn't anybody else notice that they hardly ever let the people they were "interviewing" say anything? Jared was on the microphone every freaking second.

I thought it was the EUROPEAN music Awards, not AMERICAN music awards! The whole event was dominated by American bollocks. And why the hell did Jared Lato force 10,000 people to congratulate Barack Obama? Would have been great if everyone stood up and told him to fuck off! Yes, I'm glad Obama won but this was a music event, not a political event. So no need for those stupid bloody tshirts either!

The rickrolling just showed what a load of insignificant crap these awards were!

Best band there were The Wombats! Bring on the scouse indy rock!

Oh dear...

Now, I'm a massive fan of 30stm but I have to admit that this was ridiculous. Why, you ask, did Metallica not win?

Have you even looked at the 30stm forums recently? Their legion of obsessive cult followers were powervoting again. I hardly think thats fair on other bands.

I love 30stm, I think they have such an amazing world you can lose yourself in, but I also agree that these were music awards, NOT political ones. Obama is a great man, but the shirts they were wearing were just out of place.

Incidentally, Kerrang!, why have you put the 30stm picture as being a single close up of Jareds face? I know he's a pretty manwhore, but there is also shannon and Tomo in the band as well. Have you forgotten about them? They are just as important as Jared is.

I know you want to keep the ratings up with the stupid fangirls who dribble over his big blue eyes, but please, at least acknowledge the other two thirds of 30 Seconds To Mars.

Even Paul McCartney was thanking Barack Obama and thanked America! He even forgot it was the MTV "EUROPE" music awards and thanked "America" instead of Europe!

I've got nothing against 30STM but yes, it was a load of bollocks!

I'm from Liverpool and live in Liverpool and it was Liverpools (as European Capital of Culture 2008) chance to promote EUROPEAN music! But all the winners were American bullshit MTV sponsored pop artists like B**tne* S**ar* and Kanyu* W**nk!

I like 30stm but metallica should really have won .I mean death magnetic was immense, 30 seconds to mars didnt even bring out an album this year.

30stm totally deserved those awards! They are an amazing band and make fantastic videos so I'm not sure why everyone keeps complaining. Anyone who wants another band to win awards should bloody well vote for them and stop whining when you lose out. 30stm =best band + best fans so get over it already. And I thought the guys did a great job of hosting the VIP bar considering some of the guests! (I think some of the questions were from audience members and fans by the way)

but i agree i think kerrang should include the other 2 band members in the picture for 30STM not just Jared's face. They're all as awesome as each other!

Leanne was right, they always do the freaking close ups of jared! give shannon and tomo some credit here! jared could at least shut his mouth for a while so they could get a word in edgeways as well, i voted for them for the k awards, but now i wish i voted for MCR, im gonna make it up next year!,ive seen them in concert and 30stm are cool, but not a supernova or a force to be reckoned with, the 'unstoppable creative force known as jared leto' seems to have let himself go emotionally, in all of his pictures he look depressed most of the time.

i feel sorry for the ditzy fangirls who 'love jared leto' and dont see the real side of him, he's a complete dick, seriously, this is coming from someone who's met him 4 times, i wish that the other fans of the other bands got some recognition, because im sure they did vote, and this is a music award show, not a 'best looking frontman with army of fangirls' award show.

I Used To be into dance & that kinda shit but after i heard 30stm ... sake ... they changed my life [; just got to say thanks to 30 seconds to mars for being a wonderful band .
