Metal triumphs over indie

Metal has once again triumphed over indie as Metallica's new album, Death Magnetic, has beaten Scottish indie nerks Glasvegas to the top of the British album charts.

Despite going on sale on Friday, September 12, giving it only 48 hours to make an impact on last week's chart, death Magnetic clocked up the highest number one tally for nearly three months by shifting 75,164 copies by close of business on Saturday. Glasvegas's self-titled release sold 56,387 copies.

Ha ha!

But you're talking about an album released 11 years ago, by a mainstream band before a time when album leaks are common place.

If you ever compare Oasis and Metallica again, I'm going to reach out of your monitor and slap you in the eye.

Kerrang!: Childish!

This is nonsense,
Why does kerrang feel that Metal has
'won' a contest over indie? =\
That just sounds stupid,
just like the:

"Everybody has to vote for metallica because metal must win!" quote from Kerrang Last week, it is, in my opinion, nothing more then childish. :S

It's all about the music, not the charts,
the charts are not representative for the feelings created by Music,
That music can be either Metallica/Glasvegas/Iron Maiden/The Beatles/My Chemical Romance/Green Day/The Eagles/Chuck Berry or any other band/artist in the world!

Sure, Metallica is one of the best bands
to date, I never said that. I felt like sharing my opinion.

Cheers, Rock On!

Metal rules all

And its a great week in the music charts 2 weeks running. Why? Last week Slipknot outsold that crap artist the game, and this week the kings are back on there thrones as Metallica's new album debuted at number one.
Not that I care what some music chart says, but its great to hear bands like metallica and slipknot getting the praise they deserve.
I haven't personally heard St. Anger and quite frankly I don't really want to, but there new one is absolutely brilliant. They went back to the way they were.
And why is someone talking about the pile of bollocks that is oasis? this isn't an indie site people, this is kerrang! not nme so if you want to talk about music that all sounds the same, then go to that site.

I think mustaine just wrote riffs on kill 'em all for a few tracks except anaesthesia because that was cliff burton's lol but I'm pretty sure ride the lightning, master of puppets and ...and justice for all were all metallica's work.

i didn't understand when (i think it was on here) it said something about helping Metallica beat Glasvegas.
i mean, seriously, did they really think Glasvegas would even have a chance against them?
i don't have anything against Glasvegas; i actually quite like one of their songs.
but we're talking about Metallica here.
not FOB or some shit band like that.

and i don't have anything against Indie either.
i really really like Oasis.

personally, for me, metal tops indie.

This is why i've stopped buying Kerrang! becauase of the crap language used to describe bands. what the hell are 'nerks'??? The Sun uses better vocabulary.

The fact that Glasvegas, a completely new band has sold around 20,000 copies short of one of the most legendary bands around on their 'whatever number' album is a feat in itself. Oh and Kerrang keeps forgetting to mention the fact that Death Magnetic didn't actually go on sale Friday 12th, it had been on sale in many HMV/Zavvi stores since the Wednesday 10th.

Absolute Rubbish!

Death Magnetic, numero uno.

Having bought the album i was suprised how good it was compared to shite like St Anger, i'm an old school Metallica fan, for me there last great album was "and justice for all."
Slipknots new album was miles better
though. but both bow before mighty maiden. i'm bored with you fucking kids being argumentative to each other.
just be glad real music is impacting the charts. by the way BE HERE NOW was a shit sandwich of an album.

Fucking hell.

Tbh, Kerrang is trying to hard to make up for lost ground lately. After all the pop rock emo indie there's been lately, They're attempting to get back to thier metal roots. And it really isn't happening for them.
Glasvegas > Metallica, anyway

Because nobody takes them seriously anymore. Kerrang has pissed on metal so much over the past 15 years, who the hell would believe them to be fair and balanced? Just hopping on whatever bandwagon is cool at the moment.
And as for the metal triumphing over indie? The funny thing is, most of the bands Kerrang fawns over these days are nothing but glorified indie bands.

and tbh dannii i agree, they're trying to get back to the metal roots that they have

Glasvegas is not Indie. They are a pop band. Record sales do not determine the quality of a band. Noel Gallagher is an incredible talent. Oasis don't need to have conquered America to be known as a great band. I question the American public's appreciation of good music when a band like Razorlight can make it. Let's not forgot the origin of Green Day, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance...

Metallica should be number1 in Ireland

Metallica should be number 1 in Ireland but crap bands like Glassvegas & The Script kept them from being number 1. If any1 in Ireland is reading this please make Metallica number 1 in the irish album charts.

The thing is with me, I'd rather listen to Metallica, Slipknot AND Oasis over My Chemical Toilet and F.O.B. it's all about personal taste!

Can we all stop going on about fucking Oasis, they're shit, get over it-that's a fact, you're wrong ok, ok. As for the metal over indie argument, yes it's childish but metal technivcally speaking most of the time provides more talented musicianship than indie unless it's Primal Scream for instance.
Refused over Converge over Metallica over Slipknot over MCR over Oasis.

Oasis are average musicians, but they're great businessmen, let's generate intrest in our 'on the slide' band by stirring something up. Whilst all eyes were on Metallica over recent events (St Anger, SKOM and a new bassist) they've constructed and maintained a devoted fanbase on the predominently on the basis of their music.

METALLICA RULE!!!

Just saw them last night at the O2... There isn't a single live band that can touch them... My neck still hurts from headbanging so fucking hard... My voice is gone from screaming so loud... You won't find me doing that to ANY other band... and I love so many different types of music from metal to old school jazz...

THATS WHY THEY ARE SO GREAT!

by the way.. what perve mentioned oasis? they're great for chavs, but cmon.. blur anyone? :)

ARGH!!

It's bad enough to drag that Beatles tribute band into any conversation (I know, I mentioned them too), but to add Blur too? Not Good!

Death, I was supposed to go to see Metallica, but due to work commitments (Boo)! I couldn't go. Must have been awesome.

Metallica are a great live band, saw them at download 06.
When you say no band can come close to them live, Muse can. they are one of the best live bands around atm.
Their wembley stadium shows were voted greatest concert ever in the kerrang magazine. Not to forget the countless best live band awards they have won.

Anyway, I'm glad Metallica kicked arse, they deserve it!!

As far as Metal triumphs over indie? As Wez says most of the time metal provides more talented musicianship than indie. You CAN'T argue with that!!

Saw metallica at the o2 last night and took a friend who knew very little of their music and we both thought they were awesome, even stuck up at the back. They are very nimble considering how old they must be by now. From the old stuff to the new songs it was all great and James Hetfield is sexy as with his short hair and mighty muscles. never thought I would say that. seek and destroy.

Thats just my opinion. I'm not going to force it on metal fans and brand what they listen to as 'shit'.
