Get Metallica to Number One... Not Glasvegas!

Even though high street record chains have already put it on sale, Metallica's new album, Death Magnetic, is officially released tomorrow (September 12).

This afternoon bookmakers Ladbrokes have shifted the odds for Metallica to 11/10 and their nearest competitors, dreary Velvet Underground wannabes Glasvegas, to 4/6 making the Bay Area thrashers the bookies' favourite.

According to the midweek chart reports, Glasvegas' self-titled album has shifted 33,000 (not the lofty 100,000 copies some indie sympathisers are reporting) which is only 10,000 copies more than Slipknot's latest album, All Hope Is Gone, sold on the FIRST DAY of its release, and 13,000 copies less than the first week sales of Metallica's previous album, 2003's St. Anger.

Picking this one up tomorrow. I can't be doing with bullshit indie topping the charts. Most of these indie bands only stick around for a few months, Metallica have been doing this longer than I've been alive. If anyone should be number one this weekend, it's Metallica.

Kerrang, Glasvegas are actually the favourites - they are 4/6 ON, Metallica only 11/10. Even the most rookie gambler should know that!

That said, can't be doing with all this indie nonsense polluting the mainstream. Would be good to see Metallica sitting up there at the top. Slipknot almost did it again, hopefully it'll be Metallica's name at the top of the tree on Monday morning. And then we can all stop caring about the charts again.

I'll be getting the album, but get over yourself K! Indie really isn't that bad, I like it...I'm not a fan of Glasvegas but I like the Kooks, Fratellis and others along with Slipknot, Metallica, Machine Head etc. I don't get why K! is helping fuel the genre shit talk they promotye against when it's rock/metal being critisized. Hypocrits.

Should Kerrang be showing any bias? No. Kerrang! always moans about how Emo, Goths etc.. are segregated by society, but isn't it a bit hypocritical to separate these two bands on the basis of genre? Not all Kerrang buyers are just into Emo/Goth/Metal - some of the faithful also like NME and Indie music -like myself.

Personally I think Glasvegas should get number one - they are a younger band and need the sales. Besides their songs are about the harsh parts of life - absent fathers, knife crime, the works. Metallica are so up their own arses (check lasts months Q for details) they really can't sing about an average person's life nowadays. all they can sing about is commuting between countries between gigs on private jets, then telling the average person to watch their carbon foot print.

I bought both albums at the same time. Couldn't care less who gets to number one, they're both great records but for different reasons.

Once again the UK Music press manages to display it's blinkered vision of the current climate of music and also, its own perceived arrogance and importance within the industry.

And yes, I do see the irony in posting this message on here. Just needed to be said, that's all.

Can't people make their own choices in what they want to buy or Lars and co paying K! a buck for every copy of Death Magnteic sold in the Uk?

Tell you what i'll be doing...making my mind up for myself once i've listened to both albums and not just listening to the opinions of a few people and a magazine which only reports on certain music genres.

I've actually downloaded both albums and enjpy them equally because i don't limit myself to just lsitening to one type of music like some narrow minded fucks.

It's a great album don't get me wrong, but there have been better albums released this year in my opinion. And there will probably be more to come that will easily surpass Death Magnetic.

Even though I'm not Metallica's biggest fan Death Magnetic has far more going for it than Glasvegas (the album I'm referring to). At the end of the day Metallica can pull off both songs you'll listein to on a hazy Sunday afternoon and song's you'll listein to working out at the gym or getting ready to go on stage.

Usually i dont write anything really critical or relevant to the story but i was just compelled to do so on the subject matter.To me,personally the majority of the negative reviews on Death Magnetic are mostly fueled from the disappointment of their last album,St Anger which is a shame because St Anger,this album isnt.I know a lot of Metallica fans/ex Metallica fans felt extremely butthurt at the time and still do to this day over what many have called the "worst bloody fucking piece of fucktarded fuck ups" to ever have occurred.Heres the thing; that was 5 years ago.Hard to imagine but times have changed and Metallica have moved on although im glad in a way that they made St anger because without making that step,the band would of been finished and that would have been that.Although you have to admit Metallica of all the bands that have been around have had the most balls to expand and fluctuate their ideas.I know them ideas havent been the best but at least now they know what works and what doesnt.Its called learning and growing.Its something we all experience and if you dont fail now and again, you dont learn from your mistakes and you end up like Trivium and Slipknot,bands who think everything they do should turn to gold.So please at least grow up people.If you dont like Death Magnetic thats cool but at end the end of the day,Metallica have been around much longer,have shown so much dedication to their fanbase worldwide and till this day can still release fucking killer material and play one hell of a show.

Hopefully Metallica will manage to win, but its not as though Glasvegas are the worst band in the world. In fact, I'd say they're better than a lot of bands featured in K! (Fall Out Boy, Madina Lake, Simple Plan anyone?)

I do find it a bit ridiculous that Metallica aren't really a household name despite selling 100m albums. if you asked the average man on the street he wouldnt know a song by em. Metal is ignored in the mainstream for no good reason. surely if they sell as many albums, Slipknot deserve as much airtime as the Fratellis?
