Schoolboy goes on stabling spree dressed as Slipknot drummer

A schoolboy in the South African town of Krugersdorp went on a stabbing rampage this morning. According to early reports he was allegedly dressed as Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison.

The as yet unnamed assailant stabbed a fellow pupil to death with a sword and also attacked two gardeners at Nic Diederichs Technical High School Captain Jacob Raboroko of the Johannesburg police told the Associated Press.

"He stabbed one of the schoolkids in the neck and he died," said Raboroko. "He then went further and stabbed a gardener in the back and another gardener in the face. They were taken to hospital in serious conditions."

The schoolboy, who was apparently high on drugs, claimed "Satan told me to kill the children", as he was taken into police custody.

I was wondering what a stabling spree was when i first saw the article.

That's pretty crazy, I'm not really sure what to say about it. I'm not being mean, but does the schoolboy have problems? <- it's a serious question.
Even if he was high on drugs, i didn't think it could drive you to do things like that.

All I have to say is first off, my deepest thoughts and concern go to the victims and their families and anyone closely related to them. However my sympthay also goes out to Joey for the cloud this is going to put over his head.

I really hope that it doesn't come down to music vs society again. The whole "satanic" or metal is evil thing. I think if you look at it, the normal every-day person who listens to Slipknot won't be affected like that. But you add the already ILLEGAL drugs into the mix, then with the already brainwashed mind most likely, yeah your going to do it.

Music can alter your mood. Yeah. It's powerful. but IT wont make you stab anybody unless you are already the kind to do it and do things to further your psycho feelings.

Slipknot's lyrics are dark. But not to the point of justification of thinking they caused this.

Again my condolences go out to the victims and their families and to joey jordison and slipknot. May it all be ok.

This is such a sad thing... but the real tragedy is that a our whole subculture is going to come under fire now as evil and satanic.... Blaming this on Metal is an easy way out, people look for a way to explain something terrible like this...

The drugs were probably hallucenogenic, and from a dorky science perspective auditory (sound) hallucinations are common with drugs, so he probably 'heard' Satan....

I am from south africa and should just tell you that in our newspaper this morning it said that the kid had 4 masks with him!(joey,shawn,sid and corey!) and that he had corey's mask on when he killed the kid!

Jesus christ... That's awful. Although to the people blaming drugs; obviously this kid had some sort of mental problem before, and taking any kind of psychoactive drug would have screwed him up.
Can't really blame the metal either. Just because this kid chose a particular band member to dress up as (and obviously had some sort of hero worship going on) doesn't mean slipknot are satanic cult heads advocating stabbing sprees. ><

i think this guy was fucked up before he took the drugs tbh, although drugs mess up your mind, they wouldn't make people do anything like this.
he probably stabbed these people for the attention. I used to know someone who used to lie about everything just for a few minutes in the limelight (I know there's a difference between lying and stabbing but in this situation they're pretty much the same - but one has far worse consequenses)
now the Daily Mail are going to have a field day with this story about a fucked up kid who happens to like Slipknot (another dark lyrical band) to pick on to back up their claims about the whole Hannah Bond/MCR thing.
i think this sucks because Slipknot are an amazing band and now they're going to get bad press. Just because some psycho wore one of their masks whilst killing some dude. Why didn't he just wear a binliner or something instead?

I read the report from the african newspaper - the kid really wasnt dressed as joey jordison, apparrently he put on black makeup and wore a black ballaclava. Now last time i checked, joey has never wore anything like that - infact he has always had white masks... Newspapers need to stop finding crazy stories where there are none.

There's a long lineof more substantive reasons before music to really make someone do such things like parents, schooling, drugs, mental health, socio economic conditions etc... Its the same with video games, 'Grand Theft Auto made me kill a taxi driver.....'

Clearly this scum was not well, the very fact satan and drugs are mentioned in the story would, for me, be far more likely contributors as opposed to what now appears to be a very weak reference to a drummer of a particular band.

Either way people, in particular the press should realise that such cheap, lazy journalism does nothing but deflect from the core issues of such a crime just so they can sell more of their shit papers tom their even bigger shit head readers.

Sadly I predict that the reaction of many parents will not be that the kid has issues, but that metal music is evil and proceed to ban their kids from listening to it. Messed up, yes, but pretty much the usual reaction whenever a band or artist is linked to an atrocity.
I feel very sorry for the victims involved of course, and that it resulted in killing. Sadly the backlash will surely mount...

Everyday drive shootings happen, yet even though in my opinion they are glamourised by hip-hop music, this genre is not blamed this is because hip-hop is in the limelight at the moment. it is the popular sought! whereas once every couple of years a man kills some people and blames it on heavy rock. surely it is the person who kills the person not the music. i listen to slipknot everyday and they are going to be my highlight of reading and yet i have no urge to kill any one!

People fear what they can not understand, and they like to blame the music because it is so much easier than blaming theirselves or the society. I find it hard to believe that this will even change. I read about this in the daily mail about 10 minutes ago and the stuck up paper is blaming slipknot for it!! the head of the kids school apparently said ' we know the wrong kinds of music and drugs have bad effects, young people need to be informed of the effects of bad satanic music' i cant believe it! me and mum have been fans of slipknot for about 7 years and their lyrics are not at all satanic, its just heavy. if they were would i have been allowed to listen to them at 14 yrs old? no! people like those at the daily mail need to sort out their closed and absent mindedness about music and realise its whats in peoples heads that cause them to do things like this, not the music they listen to. As a South African following this ridiculous story, I feel compelled to point out that there is absolutely nothing to suggest that this deranged brat was dressed as a member of Slipknot. According to eye witness reports, he was wearing a black balaclava, and wielding a katana. Unless I'm horribly mistaken, that sounds like a ninja. And a really crap ninja at that, considering he was totally caught.

The Slipknot rumour was begun by a local "community leader" (read: pastor), who claimed the murder was the work of "the devil" and the fault of all this ghastly rock music the children are so into these days. Like, epic fail.

Reporters tend to get things totally wrong. Firstly, this kid did not say that Satan told him to do it. Some where down the line, rumours broke out saying that he said that but its all bullshit.
And it's still uncertain if he was on drugs or not.
He was teased none stop while attending this school because of his height and how skinny he was. Apparently he had enough of 'people thinking it's all right to tease others on their appearance.'
Yes i do agree that it gives him NO right to go kill people and maybe he did have a problem as he never spoke to people about his feelings.
