Oh, but at least you won't have to spend 10 bucks on it like me. That's 5 pounds. Kinda ify about this one... Don't think I'll get it.

Who are these people!? They haven't even been on the Introducing feature yet, have they? I've never even heard of them!

I do agree not to judge them by their sucky name, but I'd rather have somone I actually know on the cover. Why am I going to read 3 pages on someone I've never heard of?

If you can give these people a cover, Kerrang!, you can give Kids In Glass Houses and You Me At Six ones too. At least most of us know who they are.

Get a subscription it's a lot cheaper.

Or better still read it at your local bookstore, it only takes five minutes and you can spend the ten bucks on something more worthwhile!

Yeah, the only problem is, that I can't get a subscription! They don't do subs to Canada, otherwise I would.

But I like to keep my K!'s. So I don't do that unless I don't realy want the issue and I happen to be there. (I live a ways from the ONLY place that sells it)

They do a sub to Canada. But they have put the cost through the roof. $500 for a year. May as well carry on as you are then, I'm sure it used to be 'only' $250. Anyway see below...

$500 would be less than I would pay if I bought them individually every week. Only about 20 bucks or so. It probably used to be more actually, but our dollar's gone way up! Anyway, thanks. I'll look at that.

You know how people always talk about "I knew this band back in the day..." well, this is that day, listen to TGA (my favorite songs are Blue Jeans and White Shirts, 1930 and The '59 Sound) become a fan and brag about how long you've known them.

The Gaslight Anthem will be an important band.

Who are Gaslight Anthem? Why do they deserve a cover? Is there some reason why a superior band never got a cover? You know, a band now no longer together, like Reuben? Nice one.

I agree. It could've been a lot worse a band on the cover. Besides I don't mind who is/isn't on the cover because I know there will be at least one decent feature in the mag that I can happily read - cover story or not.

Methinks I shall check them out. Oh whoever says The Gaslight Anthem is a gay name for a band, may I direct your attention to such camper names as Cute Is What We Aim For, Mayday Parade, Fall Out Boy et al. lol

Certainly not the worst name for a band!

New music

Hang on, a good deal of the people who post on here complain that Kerrang! doesn't do enough to support new music and/or rising talent. Then, when they put a band on the cover who you haven't heard of, you moan.

You can't have it both ways. Either accept that you don't know who this band is and use their feature as a chance to broaden your musical horizons or stop getting upset about what you perceive to be a lack of support for unknown bands.

The name the Gaslight Anthem comes from a famous bar in New York where it was not unusual to find Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty just hanging out on open mic night...

Crikey, people will complain at anything! Fact is, people should judge The Gaslight Anthem on there music and not on there band name (Which is perfectly fine)

Also, going for shit names, the name Cute Is What We Aim For is as bad as there music (and there music is dire!)

The Gaslight Anthem

Okay, having been a fan of The Gaslight Anthem since December of 07. I've read a little bit about them, and talked with them too. Their name: there was a club in New York City that was called the Gaslight. Huge in the sixties with Dylan and the likes......Anthem, well that's self explanatory, and anyone who attends a show will know that there isn't a person in the room that isn't singing along to every single word.

Have an open mind people and give these guys a listen. Both LPs and their EP are amazing. If you’re not completely hooked before the first song ends you will be by the second.

Google them and read and learn a little bit about them. They’re amazing. For a band that has become so popular in such a short amount of time….they’ve remained very humble and grounded. I’ve seen them a bunch of times and have never been disappointed. They’re one of the few bands that you can go see and actually meet before and/or after the show. They appreciate their fans and show it.

So in short- smarten up- we’re all lovers of music right? Give them a chance – if you don’t like them, that’s fine. But don’t judge on a name or the simple fact that you never heard of them. The only way bands become famous is by spreading their name to people and places that don’t know them.

Peace and Cheers.

But the Gaslight Anthem aren't even any good - and I've heard them! Yet you're introducing The Acacia Strain to everyone who has been living under a rock for the last few years, seeing as though they've been around a lot longer than most of the current Kerrang-friendly fop.

The best new band of 2008 is Gama Bomb, you know, a band who's actually done a bit of work, hard graft, to get to where they are, and without much appreciation from most of the likes on here? Most of today's flash in the pan artists wouldn't know much about that.

Narrow Minded!

A classic example of a judging a band before listening to them "Another Emo-Screamo lame ass band!"
No the Gaslight Anthem are not a screamo band (for the record neither are most of the bands refered to as screamo bands nowadays)
No they aren't a metal band either.
They are however a very good band.
As a fan of the band since their first LP I'd like to congratulate Kerrang for covering a relatively new band that aren't doing exactly the same as every other band at the moment.
For those of you who aren't too narrow minded to dismiss the band straight away and actually enjoy their music, check out Lucero if you don't know them already.

Why are you all taking your rage out on Kerrang for promoting a new band, some people need to take a break from listening to the same music playlist they play on the Kerrang channel and listen to some unsigned or unheard of stuff. Conformists!

Except from that, it's kinda guttin that they put the Bring Me The Horizon on the other side of the Slipknot one, it's hard to choose who to put up, probably BMTH though.

I would really like it if Kerrang started doing more articles and posters on hardcore bands like Annotations Of An Autopsy and Suicide Silence, yet still balancing the usual articles in.

And by the way "no -one" had heard of Converge or "Scars On Broadway and no-one complained of them getting a cover. I'm confused.

No one had heard of Converge because Kerrang, for starters, gave them hardly any coverage prior to their cover issue. I'd much rather see bands like Converge on the cover than any of the likes of My Chemical Romance, HIM, Trivium, etc., and definitely instead of unknowns like The Gaslight Anthem who actually aren't that original, aren't that good, and probably have about as much to write about as a Wayne Rooney autobiography.

Kerrang obviously aren't balancing between its readership by only putting a Metallica or a Converge on the cover once a month or less. Its over-exposure reflected in the people who use this site and, more so, the saturation of your favourite scene with generic bands who are no longer bringing anything new to the table.

Ironically, it was Kerrang who introduced me to heavier bands like In Flames and Nile, but that was in 2002, and Kerrang has changed to the extent where I rarely get excited by a new band because a) its another generic band, or b) its a band like The Acacia Strain who I already heard 3 or 4 years ago.

People like you whinge at other people for complaining about putting unknown bands on the cover, but I'm always checking out new and up-and-coming bands and I'm not going to compromise my beliefs and pander to the 'stop picking on The Gaslight Anthem' brigade. They just don't cut it, and that's based on a valid musical opinion. I'm open-minded enough to listen to all kinds of music, but every trend has waves which get weaker and weaker, and this one must be on its 4th or 5th one now. Ever heard the term 'flogging a dead horse'?

Ever heard of a band called The Reverend Horton Heat? Not exactly the same, but you can hear that blues influence in many of their songs. There's plenty of other bands have done it in the past, e.g. Captain Beefheart, MC5, The Cramps, The Flesh Eaters, The Stooges, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Immortal Lee County Killers - I could go on for days.

Trust me, this is nothing I haven't heard before. If anything, its quite tepid.

I can see the link with a few of those band I'm not gonna dispute that but Rev. Horton Heat and the Cramps are a lot more of a Psychobilly sound than the folky/country sound that The Gaslight Anthem are achieving. Their music is dare I say it a lot closer to a 'blue collar' Bruce Springsteen sound than the more balls out blues punk of say the Stooges.
I'd have to disagree with you saying they are a poor version of a lot of the bands you listed because they simply aren't trying to play the same style of music.

I'm Kerrang's whiny Vanessa and I refuse to be accused of being an Elliot Minor fan.

I'd be tempted to get this just for Metallica, Machine Head and Slaves To Gravity.

I like seeing unkowns get covers. Honestly, you lot whinge when some over exposed bands get covers, now you're whinging when some unknown bands get one? Make your fucking minds up.

When it said Metallica last issue I was hoping for a full issue, not just some news report.
And who the fuck are the Gaslight Anthem? They haven't had ANY coverage previous to this issue. I've checked them out and they manage to rip off both the Killers and the Strokes BADLY.
And Elliot Minor on a new album ALREADY! It took them about a year just to release their first one...
Ah well, at least the Feeder and QOTSA posters should cheer me up...

You brainwashed fucking idiots

Seriously, learn something, find new bands stop being spoon fed nu metal left overs like fucking Slipknot, talentless posh kids with more cash backing than the military like Elliot Minor and find some talent, its not that hard, The Gaslight Anthem are an original heartfelt band who have done it the right way, theres plenty more on your door step toojust open your fucking eyes or go back to listening to the charts as you no doubt did until some told you it was cool to be alternative, well done to kerrang for putting someone decent in this magazine (first time in years) if one person gets somethign out of it then i suppose it was worth it

My name is yiuyiy and I am a cunt.

So your metal idols, Metallica don't cover the whole magazine. Boo hoo hoo.

Gaslight Anthem are a relatively unheard band - ya know, most bands start off not known, it's kinda how things work.

They have had coverage, but not by commercialised fucking wank outfits like kerrang you mindless cunt.

Rip off killers and strokes badly? You on acid or sommert you retarded twat? Seriously?!?

Posters - wow, so rock 'n' roll.

Fucking dipshit wanker

By the whole magazine I wrote that wrong, I meant just a feature.
And I know Gaslight Anthem are relatively unheard of, but it just doesn't seem right to slap them on the cover straight off. Give them an introducing section, maybe a live/albumr eview and THEN put them on the cover.
If you hate kerrang so much why do you read it?
It's nice to know people think hurling out a load of language makes them think they're superior to others.
I like posters. Big fucking deal.
Yeah, at least I CAN wank.

The best cover in along time

Yes, I get it, most of you have not heard of The Gaslight Anthem, and this is why it is great that they are on the cover! They really are an amazing band, hands down my favorite for the last two years (beating out perinial favorites Against Me! and Rancid) If you don't want to spend alot of money I recommend the following songs to check out to become a big fan:

Off of Sink or Swim: Drive, I'da Called You Woody, Joe or 1930

Off of Senor and The Queen: Blue Jeans and White Shirts

Or just get The '59 Sound single

Gaslight Anthem

Will everyone stop being so fuckin narrow minded :/ why can't you just be open to new music? Instead of listening to the same shit over and over again.

My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, HIM, and all the other bands that are in Kerrang ALL the time.

Wake up and realise there's other music out there. I think it's good they're promoting a new band. I haven't listened to them yet, but I'm looking forward to having something different to listen to.

Gaslight?

Decent.. I just read it at my work! If you don't think it's worthwhile, why do you bother coming on the site? Good luck to The Gaslight Anthem.. They might be kinda good!

Ok,I've never heard of this band either. But now I'm off to youtube to listen to some of their stuff, because i'm open to new music, and don't want to listen to the same 3 bands forever, like some of you obviously do.How boring.

So anyways, this is why i don't understand some of you lot^-when a band like Paramore or FOB is on the cover, you moan about them being in K! all the time. But then when a new band's on the cover, you moan about never having heard of them before.
^ That kind of pisses me off.

Just listened to them. Awful. How can stuff like this get into Kerrang (when it's not even punk!) when stuff like Bloc Party or Arctic Monkeys doesn't...

The gaslight anthem are better then most bands out there right now, and way better then lame bands like slipknot. They just released one of the best albums this year, The '59 Sound.

"Gas Light ANthem?? Another Emo-Screamo lame ass band!" Yea they are definatley not another emo-screamo band, maybe before judging a band you've never heard, you should go and listen to them, they are probably better then most of what you listen to.

I think its great that they are on the cover, even if you don't know their music, now you can go and listen to how good they are.

The Gaslight Anthem is without a doubt the best band ever, certainly better than Slipknot, Dragonforce, and all this crap you guys want to be on the cover oh so badly, go listen to some talent (TGA for example)
