Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha has formed a new project called One Day As A Lion.
Joining the vocalist is The Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore. The pair have signed a deal with Anti Records and will release their self-titled debut EP on July 21.
The duo recorded their EP at Hollywood’s Ocean Way studios with producer Robert Carranza and is described in a press release as “a defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It's a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask”.
According to the band, the band’s monicker was “taken from the infamous 1970 black-and-white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez, featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: 'It's better to live one day as a lion than a thousand years as a lamb.' This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”
In other Rage Against The Machine news, guitarist Tom Morello is set to release The Fabled City, his second solo album as his folk alter-ego The Nightwatchman on September 29. The album was produced by Brendan O’Briend and features guest appearances from Serj Tankian (Lazarus On Down) and country singer Shooter Jennings (The Iron Wheel).
Rage Against The Machine will headline the Reading and Leeds Festivals on August 22-24
