Lostprophets: New album out early 2009

Lostprophets, who have been hard at work on the follow-up to 2006's number one album, Liberation Transmission, for what seems like aeons, say their as yet untitled fourth studio album will finally be released next January or February.

After the band's single, Rooftops, was used in a video montage on WWE's SmackDown program earlier this month, frontman Ian Watkins and guitarist Mike Lewis were interviewed by WWE superstar Jeff Hardy for wwe.com.

Speaking to Hardy, Watkins said:

"We're finishing up the record now with Bob [Rock, legendary Metalica producer] again. I think it'll be out in late January or early February of next year."

When asked what direction the new material is taking, Watkins said the Prophets' new album will be "much harder."

"When we first started we were a lot harder," continues Watkins. "We're still melodic, but with a metal edge. On the last record, we purposely put a lot of pop mentality into it. Whereas on this one, we kept the tunefulness and the anthemic hooks, but we kind of put the metal back, as well."

i see them on the 18th august in birmingham. cannot wait, on youtube you can see them recording parts of the new material and it does sound way heavier! WOO HOO!!!!!! although i was originally looking forward to it being released in may, then september, now bloody february next year! mega lolz.

Hmmmm

Alright, i'll give lost prophets a chance because to be honest, liberation transmission wasn't a good album in my opinion, but if they've got their harder edge back, then we'll be in store for a good time. As for Slipknot, i'm not really bothered now, i mean as far as i'm concerened my top 3 albums of this year are Blooddrunk - Children Of Bodom, Scatter the crows - Slaves to gravity and Bonded by blood - feed the beast. Of course Metallicas new album and triviums new album will be worth listening to, but apart from that, i think thats it.

metallica and slipknot are sooooo overated that they have sold god knows how many albums and got to where they are now because bands like lostprophets are better? metallica are like the 7th biggest selling act in history, that doesn't exactly happen because they are overrated does it? or is the entire world deluded, except for you of course. why not just put ur hands up and say they are not ur cup of tea and u dont personally like them, that doesnt mean they are overrated tho does it. and overrated in what way exactly, every band out there are quite capable of playing intruments otherwise they wouldnt be able to perform live, so the only thing you are basing it on is the catchyness of songs, its pathetic. maybe if you actually played an instrument and learn some metallica rifts you would get it, oh but now i guess you will come out and see your can and already have done that, but they are still overrated? its funny how propper bands when they do covers such as the ones on the recent iron maiden cd, say things like they have a whole lot more respect and appreciation for what these bands do, but i guess you just must be so much better than everyone. you people are fucking pathetic get a life and stop trying to act cool by degrading someones work when the only thing you know how to do is the their cd in your fucking stereo, prick

I love Metallica but I still feel that they're overrated just based on the fact that thay haven't released a good album in 20yrs however they're still legends and tracks like Whiplash, The Frayed Ends Of Sanity and Ride The Lightning never grow old. I didn't realise Metallica were the 7th biggest selling band of all time either.

their new album is supposed to be much darker than liberation transmission. i'm excited.

i cant wait, i have loved all 3 albums, for different reasons.

Hm, I'm actually very excited for this record. I can honestly say I like their music a lot, and if they keep their word instead of going more pop than Liberation Transmission, it should be great. Especially if they 'put the metal back' in it. Personally, I'm not too sure if it will be this metal they speak of, or just more of a hardcore kind of sound, but I'm looking forward to it. I think the reason the album didn't come out when it was supposed to had something to do with them not being happy with the material they had, so I'm fine with the wait. Should be for the best.

Cant wait for this new album. Gna be awesome. BTW T4 on the beach was amazin. Scouting for girls n basshunter were suprisingly good and feeder and the pigeon detectives and not to mention the feeling. But tbh cud hav done with LOSTPROPHETS headling tho!!! XD. I wondered how long it would take some spanner to mention Metallica and Slipknot and how much better they are. Just incase we missed someone saying it Iron Maiden are so much better and own all.

I heard Lost Prophets were not too bad at Download and sounded a lot heavier. Didnt go this year as were not enough bands I wanted to see.

Never been a huge fan but they have done a few good tracks so will give them a listen

i'm just hoping for a cross between the first two albums - less whiny singing (which half-ruined thefakesoundofprogress) and a darker edge than Start Something. As for Liberation Transmission, I never bothered after hearing the singles.

Why does this album's release kkeep getting postponed? It was first said it'd be released in spring this year, then autumn this year, now next year.. I really hope it is released when they say it will be, Lostprophets are my favourite band, and i'm really looking forward to some new stuff.

I think that it is June 2009 now. With the single For He's A jolly Good Felon out in April 2009.

I personally enjoyed Liberation Transmission, i know people will argue that it is not lostprophets type of music but for the genre it was, it was actually very good.
FSOP was also an incredible album and I can see why people were annoyed when they changed so much.
Start Something is my personal favourite of the three and I hope that this will be a similar album to that but with a bit more screaming and some of Liberation Transmission's melody.

Anyway, from what I've heard, Next Stop Atrocity, The Dead, For He's A Jolly Good Felon ans These Streets of Nowhere, this next album will be FUCKING SWEET!!

I am agree with you. Thank you for useful info. For me - two favourite albums - Start Something and Liberation Transmission (except some songs). The Fake Sound of propgress - Not very for me, But two songs are good - The Fake Sound of Propgress and Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja.

I'm pretty sure that it is coming out in June 2009. If it doesn't I will actually consider crying and if they delay it till 2010 I will personally hunt them down and torture them until Ian literally screams his heart out(idle threat).

Where the hell have they gone ?

I really dont know what the frig is going on with these guys but ive not heard anything about them recently apart from the poster in Kerrang not long ago, but i cant find anything out about how the album is going !
Its been ageeeeeeeees since they said they were finishing the album and another thing is what happened to a early 2009 release ?, Whenever the new album is released i hope it is pretty good because its been far to long since liberation transmission.

Well, I went to see them on their tour last year and they said they were trying to perfect it, but it was being released early this year....yeah right.

They're also doing yet another tour, and they're coming to my city in about 3 days, so they arent going to be releasing anything too soon by the looks of it. Takes the mick....dont promise what you cant deliver!

Sounds to me like they're more worried about raising the money before they do anything, cause downloaders are meaning that theres little point in making albums anymore - its not making them any profit is it?

But seriously, get your act together, AND RELEASE SOME NEW SHIT!!

Well i saw them in Newport on this 'mini tour' that they did and their new stuff is absolutly amazing! It blew my mind.

They announced in the gig that the album is finally finished (and perfected) so hopefully it should be released pretty soon now, hopefully before xmas. They didnt say a release date though :(

I must say that the Liberation Transmission album was disapointing compared to Start Something and The Fake Sound of Progress, they really let themselves down there.

Another worrying factor is Ian's voice, he's completly destroyed it. It sounds like he is really struggling to sing and hold notes, you ask me, I think this new album will take its toll big time on the band over the next year and half. Wouldnt be surprised if there were a few cancelled gigs frm broken voices etc.

But anyway bye for now, voice your opinions to me if you have seen L.P recently and do you agree with me?

The guitar solo in 'It's Not The End Of The World' sounds like something by Muse. The rest is okay though.

Solo

You are right there, it is something that Muse would do. All good though none the less, nice to hear a solo to be honest, makes a difference to the norm, although last summer, 4am forever had solos. Just wonder if the new album will have more of them. Anybody know when the album is released now we a have a new single on our hands?
