So Far So Good

Allright stuff so far. Machine Head, metallica and Trivium have the best sounding covers so far though little unsure about Triviums at the mo. Worst sounding one at the mo has to be Coheed and Cambria. his voice just doesn't suit it without changing the guitar sound to fit their style which they didn't do from the sounds of it (the muppets)
though gotta say pissed off there are ALLREADY votes for tracks without samples yet -_-"
seriously you guys are fucking h opless some times

First impressions.....

Machine Head and Trivium probably sound the best out of all the samples.

Some of them are just epic failures, like The Gallows & Coheed and Cambria.

And I haven't got high hopes for the Madina Lake cover....=\

screamo post hardcore fails at maiden. i dont know what people are talking about though i love coheeds cover but i guess claudios voice is an acquired taste.

No Coheed blew it

Claudios voice is fine normally. But the folls didn't make their music playing fit his vocal styles. Even Gallows managed to make the music fit his voice and style so it will at least be appealing to their fans.

I disagree with this. Metallica were one of the best metal bands out there once.
They got too big headed and stopped cariing about there true fans.
There are much better metal bands out there these day's. Machine Head, Clutch, Circus Of Dead Squirrles, Tool, heaps more!!!

METALLICA

You are a feckin arsehole pal if you think a great band is based on album sales alone, and the best band can only be the one that has MORE album sales, what utter crap. I'm sick and tired of reading retarded comments like yours, and if you were any sort of real metal fan you would love both bands as I do without bitching about feckin album sales you dickhead. Metallica are ace, but will NEVER be better than Maiden, even Lars himself recently said that "Iron Maiden are 10% cooler than every other band", I think that says it all don't you. Also, if you think Dance of Death is a bad album then you're listening to the wrong stuff altogether mate, you sound as though you know very little about the mighty Maiden. I've been into them for just short of 20 years now so think i'm pretty qualified to know that they are the BEST BAND ON THE FECKIN PLANET BY FAR. You can go and listen to Kylie you knob, enjoy your P(L)op music ;)

IRON MAIDEN SUCKS!!!

These discs will kick the ass to Iron Maiden!

METALLICA

Kill 'Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master Of Puppets
Garage Days Re-Revisited
... And Justice For All
Metallica (The Black Album)
Death Magnetic

Metallica has sold 100 million albums!

Iron Maiden has sold 80 million albums!

Live Shit Binge And Purge is a better record that the Rock In Rio

But both bands have had their bad moments:

Metallica: Load, Reload and St. Anger!

Iron Maiden: No Prayer For The Dying, The X Factor, Virtual XI and Dance Of Death sucked!

If you dont like Maiden sod off to the Metallica posts

Garage inc is just a chuffing cover album. For such a big fantastic band why do they need to do covers.................Oh yeah so people will forget about some pretty awful albums. Metallica's next album will make or break them. Iron Maiden just get better with each album and they feckin rocked at Twikenham

You obviously can't read. Harry actually mentioned Garage Days Revisted, which was out some time before Garage Inc, although some of the songs from Garage Days Revisited
are on Garage Inc.

On another note, pretty much all bands play covers. Maiden would have at one point. Every band in history would have more than likely played covers.

We've already seen this argument though... Who gives a shit about what band has sold more albums?

Anyway, had a listen and I think Trivium's cover is actually pretty good, Coheed's one is alright but Trivium have performed The Trooper live before too so I think they should've done it (Y)

I really want to hear Devildriver's rendition of Wasted Years because the opening riff is fuckign amazing!

Oh and can anyone please shed a little light and tell me who Ghostlines and Year Long Disaster are? Might've heard of YLD but only briefly in convo ^o)

I have a question for Kerrang. Back in the 90's when Blaze Baily left Woldsbane to join Iron Maiden Padora Peroxide or Auntie P as she is refered to now died her hair black. She loved Wolfsbane and vowed never to go blonde again. She would only go back to blonde if Wolfsbane got back together. ERM WOLFSBANE have got back together so does that mean Auntie P will be going blonde again. God I am showing my age

Just listened to the snippets of thr Maiden Tracks

I never thought I would say this in a million years but from what I have heard so far and its only a snippet and not much...........Avenge Sevenfold nailed it completely, I cant stand the band but fair play to them it sounds awesome. Want to hear the full versions of Machine Head though as not enough was played. I feel dirty saying Avenge Sevenfold sounded the best but hey it is so far

Coheed and Cambria you should be fucking ashamed. The Trooper is a classic and sounds like you have wiped your arse with it

Get it into context please...

To robert who posted the 4 best rock bands totally WRONG... heres how it should be:

1. Iron Maiden
1. Metallica
3. Slayer
4. Megadeth
5. Anthrax

Ok i have put Maiden and Metallica joint top because these 2 are pretty much the bestr in equal measures... Good albums, bad albums... Band members leaving... fact is, im a huge Metallica fan and they are my number 1, but i have to say theat maiden in this day and age are bigger. They have a mascot that is bigger than any band member in maiden. They now have a marketing machine that dominates the metal industry with a simple image of Eddie... but then Metallica arent far behind, because they are the bridge between all of metal to me... the thrash and raw agression of the first few albums... then the mellow attitude of the next few albums. Ok yeah, alot will say that St. anger was a sell out and a mistake.... Wel think of it this way, Metallica put their balls on the chopping block and tried something new... and i think for the better part, they succeeded.

Overall... I cant split the two. XD \m/

Why when anyone mentions Maiden does someone say Metallica are better and vice versa. They are 2 very good bands and each have had thier own bad moments.

Bad momment Blaze Baily joined Maiden BUT Sign of the Cross and Clansman were written on the plus side

Metallica are amazing everything done Pre Black album is spot on and some great tracks. Four horsemen, One, Creeping Death and loads more. Down side have done a covers album ( Garage inc) Without Garage INC we wouldnt have a stunning version of Whiskey in the Jar but then they also bought out St Anger which was tosh

Cant we all just get along.
Let Metallica fans and Maiden fans unite against the ear ache that is MCR

Coheed and cambria you should be ashamed
Madina Lake erm what the hell have you done to caught somewhere in time.
Ghostlines words dont even express what I feel about this version

Totally shocked by
Fightstar bloody good version of Fear of the dark and not too bad at all
Avenge Seven Fold- I hate you but up there as one of the best tracks
Machine Head- Always deliver and my fave track
Metallica even sounds like a tallica track- lost a bit of the way on the guitar solo but a great version
Year long Disaster, Black Tide, Glamour of the kill........I have neer heard of you but very impressed. Fiar play.

Bands I aint mentioned were great too. Never heard Devil Driver singin before. MAkes a change from the throaty grunt ha ha

not bad

I was really pleasantly surprised by the Fightstar cover, I think they did it brilliantly.

I've never been a massive fan of most of Dream Theater's stuff, but I'll never deny that they are all amazingly skilled musicians and it really shows on that cover of To Tame A Land, it sounds even more polished than the original.

The rest was quite variable (much as I love Coheed & Cambria their cover was atrocious) though the Madina Lake and Ghostlines covers were remarkably good re-imaginings of the tracks, they came across very different but in a good way. Overall great album, I think.

Maiden Heaven

First I already listened to the whole album, so I can vote with confidence:

Black Tide did a wonderful job, Metallica did average their intro wa unnecessary, no problem furthermore until Devildriver who butchered the song with those horrible vocals. Dream Theater made a good choice to cover. Madina Lake also fucked up, Gallows vocals are not very good but the energy is very akin to the original NWOBHM spirit of the song. Machine Head and Trivium did average to low, the first the vocals sounds breathless and the second sounds between a bad Metallica and some cookie monster crap. Year Long Disaster kicked ass with 'Running Free' really true to the original, finally Ghostlines did an interesting offering on BNW, have listened before to approaches like that with Helreid on 'Stranger In Strange Land' and Demonios on 'Fear Of The Dark'.

Not a bad tribute, but not essential, I have better ones.
