It's been nine years since Guns N' Roses officially released any new material when the industrial-tinged Oh My God featured on the soundtrack to the Arnold Schwarzenegger flick End Of Days.
Now the once 'Most Dangerous Band In The World' are gearing-up release new track Shackler's Revenge exclusively through upcoming video game Rock Band II, which is expected to hit stores in September.
In related news, Bay Area thrash legends Metallica are set to make material from their upcoming new studio album, Death Magnetic, available for download on Guitar Hero III when it's released in September.
"It's exciting, 27 years into your career, to be doing something first," says Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. "In five to 10 years it'll be a normal thing to release an album to 'Guitar Hero' the same day as the record."
"Dad's a little cooler than he was yesterday," grins Ulrich. "I now have a 7-year-old whose favourite band is Mountain, and a 9-year-old who's into Black Sabbath and Danzig [thanks to the Guitar Hero series]. It's a great way for kids to be exposed to stuff that transcends generations."
As previously reported on Kerrang! Dot Com, Metallica are to have their own special edition of Guitar Hero released next year.
