Who kicked ass at Download '08

It has to be KISS! They played a brilliant set with make up, platform boots, fireworks, blood, explosions, rocket firing guitars, wires, raising platforms, and a zip lining Paul Stanley! It was so cheesy but so cool!
It was the best gig/show i have ever seen in my life! To be honest the friday of Download '08 was the best day of my life up to yet!

Deffinately has to be Army Of Freshmen. No matter where they are or what show they're playing their set is always a killer.

One of the only bands that really share the night with the crowd - it's as much for AoF as it is for the crowd, which makes it much more enjoyable and rocking for the fans that go bazerk. Best live band ever. : )

Bullet For My Valentine rocks Kill Hanna sucks!

Ever get the feeling that the people that love Kill Hannah are street teamers from Roadrunner records? KH are and always have been mediocre at very best. No one "loves" them as evident from their piss poor show turnout around the UK. I'm told they do even worse in the states (where they're from)!
Bullet For My Valentine were the best of the young bands and Judas Priest were the best of the old school bands. Lost Profits are rather soft to be at Download.

In my opinion In Flames totally owned the festival as they gave their all even with the problems with the mic and so on. They played fan favourites that were sure to please even the oldest In Flames fan out there (i.e. set opener Cloud Connected) and newer hits that resulted in many pits being formed all over the place! (i.e. Take This Life) Those who were lucky enough to watch from the side of the stage were also given momentos from the show, I was lucky enough to be given one of the drumsticks Daniel (Svensson, Drums) used to play with during the set by the man himself. They were so kind to the fans during the meet and greet that Live Nation set up after the set! Whether or not you're an In Flames fan you can't help but admit they absolutley rocked... even though they've been going for quite a while now they still give everything into their live performance, and this showed at Download!!!

Kiss were the best band of the weekend by far.
They were everything you could want from a rock band and the put on the best performance I've ever seen.
You won't bother printing this, as every one you print will be either Madina Lake/Elliot Minor!

Ive never seen a show as breathtaking as Kiss, and i doubt i ever will =] They put everything they had into it and sounded amazing! They're so passionate about what they do and i think that's what some bands lack nowadays. I would definitely recommend anyone (fan or not) to catch a Kiss show, it's going to stay with me for years!

I would have to say The Offspring, I haven't seen a headliner at Donnington get the arena going like that since Metallica! They used no stage props and were totally raw and were still absolutley amazing, and no one could help but sing and dance along! F*cking awwaome man!

Download Best Band

I should say Kill Hannah, simply because they're my obsession.

I won't though. It's got to be Apocalyptica. I don't understand how 4 guys with Chellos can make so much noise.

Love them.

Within Temptation!!!

Within Temptation were definately the best band of the weekend, they more than deserved their mainstage spot!!!!

After all the technical problems and shortened set of last year these guys came back and more than made up for it!

Excellent playing, a stage presence not to be messed with and energy and enthusiasm gallore!!!!! The boys (and gal of course) got the crowd going and gave an excellent performance! Here's hoping they come back to the UK on their own tour soon :D

You probably won't put this in your mag because its not *cool* but i think madina lake. They got totally slated even though they're fuckin ace n i have way more respect for bands that have to play in front of a shitty and disrespectful crowd who judge people merely on image.. it's pathetic!

36 Crazyfists because they just now how to totally rock out and get involved with the crowd to create a totally awesome atmosphere.
OR
In Flames because i just totally and completely and in to there music and im just glad i got to see them. they do know how to write such amazing music. which aint just the lyrics its the drumming, guitaring and everything as a whole

there are two bands which i really enjoyed at download this year:
36 Crazyfists because of how amazing they are at getting the crowd involved and also how entuisiastic they were.
also.
In flames because of how awesome they are at putting there music all together as one..it was just a great atmosphere seeing them live at a festival for the first time.

But all the bands were good in the own way. just these stand out

KISS!

There was only one band who could have rocked Download like it did - Kiss! They had the best songs, the best stage show, its was 2 hours of perfection as far as live performances go.

The other top bands in my opinion were The Wildhearts, Apocalyptica, Judas Priest and Motorhead.

Saw Pendulum too - were their guitars plugged in at all? Don't see what the fuss is about at all. Its still predominantly drum 'n' bass which is not a road Download needs to go down.

Sure, I thought Kiss were bloody amazing! Sure, Testament were tight as hell! But neither of those bands played REFUSE/RESIST!

Therefore I'm nominating the awesome Cavalera Conspiracy for band of the weekend, or should I just go right out and call them Sepultura!?

Wow, what a hard choice! There were some seriously awesome bands! (and some not so awesome)

If i had to choose it would be out of both Disturbed and Pendulum.
The atmosphere when Pendulum were playing was insane! Seeing a bunch of rockers literally 'rocking out' to a bit of drum and bass really did make my day... and possibly my whole weekend! :P

But on the other hand Disturbed were fantastic, i totally fell in love with David. His evil cackle/laugh is megga sexy!! xx

I'm tied between Kill Hannah and Madina Lake.

Both bands were awesome.

I thought Madina lake were so great, although it was obvious singer Nathan was nervous, (who wouldn't be nervous playing Main Stage) they played a fun, set.

Kill Hannah were also great. They had so much perfection, and sounded great.

So, Kill Hannah just win my favorite!

Children of Bodom easily put on the best show, they never fail to amaze me with their set, and this time was no exception!

They completed download, and the atmosphere was so intense, much better than any of these famous-for-five-minute bands that seem to always creep onto the lineup just to keep the fakes happy.

All I know is im going to Reading where the line-up is far better, and doesnt have to put low-grade unheard of bands on the main stage, have lame performers (im reffering to kid rock) pulling out on the day and try to stick every kind of rock together at a festival supposed to be "metal"
BRING ON READING!!

Finally seeing Within Temptation on the main stage was breathtaking! I think I pissed off most of the people around me by singing along too loudly but what they hey! Amazingly talented band who deserve good things. Last year they were amongst the crowd watching Iron Maiden close the festival, this year they'd have been mobbed doing that! Well done guys. Keep it up, you're amazing x

Has to be a tie between HIM and Bleeding Through for me. BT, despite having a short set, were as intens and vitriolic as always and the huuuge circle pit was a highlight of my weekend. HIM were just fantastic, beautiful music, great vocals, brilliant crowd combined with the sun set resulted in an extremely memorable set for me.

They aren't the typical band which people would expect to see at Download but they were absolutely amazing. Madina Lake did it for me.

Without even going to Download this year (woe is me) I can safely say that the band that kicked the most ass that weekend were The Subways.

Cavelera Conspiracy. Excellent stuff, played things from their album and the classic Sepultura, provided excellent relief from Lostprophets and gave me a great time!

Cheers boys!

Madina Lake! They put so much effort into their shows and always make sure they do the best they can, no matter what happens. As well as spend all the money they have on confetti canons and balloons.

I wasn't even there, because my mum's adamant that every young girl at a festival will get raped, but it was probably Lostprophets, simply because they're awesome. Or HIM, because their live show is amazing.

I think you'll find the vast majority of old In Flames fans hate their newer shit. Now if they hadn't played anything after Clayman, then yes.

Nu Flaymz suck.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Madina Lake? Lostprophets? KIDS IN GLASS F***ING HOUSES? Download used to be the best, now its not the blood dripping metal festival it used to be, its a confetti spraying poof camp, totally a waste of money that could of gone to a warlock. Sell-out, corporate whores.
