Taking Back Sunday have started work on the follow-up to their hugely successful 2006 album Louder, Now.
The album will be their first recording with Facing New York guitarist Matt Fazzi, who replaces Fred Mascherino, who left the band to concentrate on The Color Fred.
The five-piece played their first show together under the name Lance Striker And The Rockaholics at the Crazy Donkey in New York's Farmingdale on May 5 and a couple of high-profile shows with My Chemical Romance before starting work on their new album.
In an exclusive interview in tomorrow's Kerrang! magazine, frontman Adam Lazzara reveals what happened with Mascherino and what the future holds for the band.
"Basically [Fred] was in another place from the rest of us," says Lazzara. "He pretty much decided that he wanted to go off and do his own thing. I think it was a good thing for everybody involved.
"We never really stopped for a second after he decided to leave the band," he continues. "We just knew that we wanted to keep going and to carry on writing new songs as normal. I was playing guitar for a little while, and then eventually [Matt] Fazzi came in and we felt like a completely new band. The clouds definitely moved away from the sun, so to speak."
When asked if Mascherino departure was amicable, Lazzara replied:
"You know, man, it's like my daddy always used to say when I was a kid: If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all."
