Maiden Heaven track listing revealed!

Following on from our 2006 Kerrang! Remastered CD in honour of Metallica's Master Of Puppets, this latest collection - Maiden Heaven - features bands covering tracks from Iron Maiden's legendary career, and will be given away free with Kerrang! issue 1219, on sale July 16.

The CD includes world exclusive performances from Metallica, Machine Head, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed And Cambria, Gallows and more!

Speaking exclusively to Kerrang!, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told us how much respect the Bay Area thrashers have for the Brit metal masters.

"Iron Maiden are 10 per cent cooler than every other band," says Ulrich. "From their relationship with their fans, to their album covers to their stages, to their live presentation, to their photos - whatever they did was always cooler than what everyone else did! I have always had an incredible amount of respect and admiration for them and obviously getting a chance to be part of this CD feels like that has come a full circle. We played Remember Tomorrow as it was basically the blueprint for songs like Fade To Black and Welcome Home (Sanitarium), and some of the more epic ballady type of songs that Metallica had done later. We had so much fun jamming with this! We put a bit of an intro on it, to give it a bit of a Metallica stamp, and we are super pleased with how it has turned out. "

Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn is equally excited to be a part of this project.

"When I was a kid Iron Maiden were a very big deal to me and the influence they had on Machine Head has been huge," he reveals. "We decided to cover Hallowed Be Thy Name for this CD because it's just such a great song, in fact it's a classic! I just love the way the vocal line goes up and down, so dramatic."

Metal heroes Trivium, are happy to admit their own brand of heavy riffage could never have existed without Maiden's worldwide influence.

"Iron Maiden helped create what we know as heavy metal," states frontman Matt Heafy. "Their influence can be heard on classic and contemporary bands alike; their fanbase spans across the youngest and newest of heavy music recruits all the way to the diehard, life-long metal elite. We chose to play the track Iron Maiden off their first album, as the song that screamed out our love for them musically, and we knew it would be a really fun song to jam out in the studio. It was an honour to be able to play one of Iron Maiden's tracks and have the opportunity to contribute to this amazing CD. We hope everyone has as much fun listening to it as we did making it!"

Meanwhile, Avenged Sevenfold - who will be supporting Maiden at their upcoming Twickenham Stadium show on July 5 - say they are "honoured" to be part of this Kerrang!-arranged tribute.

"Maiden are by far the best live band in the world and their music is timeless," says vocalist M Shadows. "This also gives us a chance to expose this great song to some of our younger fans who maybe aren't as familiar with Iron Maiden."

UK hardcore punk rockers Gallows chose to contribute a version of Wrathchild from Maiden's Killers album to the collection.

"We're actually all huge Maiden fans and while learning Wrathchild we discovered a new-found respect for the band as musicians," says guitarist Laurent Barnard. "Some of their riffs are pretty fast and Steve Harris has definitely earned his place as a bass legend! We're so happy we were asked to be included."

The arrival of Kerrang!'s Maiden Heaven CD coincides with the band's European leg of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour - and follows on from the release of their own collection Somewhere Back In Time: The Best Of 80-89.

"Maiden much appreciate and are very flattered by all the time spent on this by a lot of great bands," says Iron Maiden's manager Rod Smallwood, "and would like to thank them, and also Kerrang!, for the honour. Thanks, everyone!"

The track listing for Maiden heaven is as follows:

......

if the live version of Machine Head's cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name is anything to go by,then that will be the highlight of the cd.

Looking forward to hearing a full version of Remember Tomorrow by Metallica, they played part of it in 1995 at Donington.

I like how everyone moans about the bands that are on this compilation.

dicks.

you just gotta love these ignorant, arrogant people. Fot thse guys posting these stupid Napster comments (that is old news btw) and you say..."oo metallica sued their fans" well brother, if they were fans...they'd bought the damn music instead of STEALING it. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WAY MUSIC HISTORY WAS AND ALWAYS SHOULD BE? What if "filesharing" was going on when Elvis Presley was trying to make his mark huh? He wouldn't have sold a damn record because lazy, stupid, ignorant closed minded idiots like yourself would have felt that you are worthy enough to get it for free. Music is entertainment, but on the flipside...it's a business. and when there's business......there's things that have to be met. If record sales ain't up there...then bands ain't getting signed...end of story. I personally buy all my music and am damn glad that some bands have the balls to stand up against people who duplicate music that isn't theirs. As a matter of fact, I had just went to the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee 2 weeks ago to see Metallica. It was my second time seeing them...I'm a die hard fan. And me and my buddy Rantz proudly sported a homemade F*** NAPSTER t-shirt for everyone to see...and guess what buddy...they agreed...and so did the multiple thousands of people that attended. Do you really think that your ignorance will stop the metal militia? Well, it ain't happened yet and it's been 8 years since. See you in hell

i agree with you to an extent but being 37 years old i have spent my share of money on cds when they were 15 to 20 $ a piece nowadays with the price of gas and living on one income its hard to afford a new cd let alone go to a concert for 80 to 150 $ to see a show 40$ a t shirt 5 bucks for a 16 oz bottle of water dont get get me wrong i do still buy cds but i also burn them it goes both waysi understand your point though

Ignorance does not refer to the words you call someone or how you talk to them, it refers to a lack of knowledge and respect about the music industry and for the artists.

Well talking about the price acros the Atlantic.. in here gallon of gas pays 7 dollars, and it isn't even high the average in Europe :D CD's are 30 dollar piece, shows are pretty much the same price.... So in here, it is even harder. But I really think real fans BUY the CD's, its not just to make favorite band richer, but honoring their piece of art. Anyways, I'd like to see this album, not only in Kerran! but in public CD stores aswell. Don't even know if I can buy Kerrang! here :D I bet somewhere but... Anywayz :D Gonna be great album, Up the Irons!

"metal heroes - trivium" heroes my right bollock.

and avenged sevenfold? im suprised their coporate cocksmoking singer (and i use that term loosely) could drag himself away from couting his dollars that he cares so much about to be a part of this.

and lars ulrich, hypocrit much? he allws to be a part of not only the kerrang cd featuring his bands load of wank and this new pile of shit, to be given away FOR FREE yet spits his dummy out the pram and takes people to court for downloading for free, its the same damn fucking outcome!

im suprised that sheep shagging cunt matt tuck isnt whining on this collection too.

and people wonder why i get fucking mad.

Lars Ulrich

I may not entirely agree with the whole Napster saga, but this isn't the same. For a start it's not their own material, it's a cover. And I'ts not technically being given away for free as you have to pay £2.20 for the magazine first.

I think this already looks like a million times better than the Metallica cd. Heard the Gallows track the other night and it sounded very different to what the original does but at the same time it's still recognisable. I'm sure many people will disagree with me but that's your opinion i guess but i thought it was great.

How the fuck u said exactly the same thing I was gonna say?

DT is probably the only band that are doing this for the proper reason: to pay tribute.
