Maiden Heaven artwork unveiled

In May we asked you lot to design a cover for Maiden Heaven, our forthcoming world exclusive Iron Maiden tribute album. We were deluged with hundreds of pieces of brilliant artwork, but sadly there can only be one winner.

Step forward Felipe Franco of Bogota, Colombia, who wowed the judges with his entry, which depicts Eddie as a fallen angel.

"This is the best news!" says Felipe. "This is the second Iron Maiden artwork contest I've won! I won a competition earlier this year, commemorating Iron Maiden's first Colombian concert at Bogota's Simon Bolivar Park on February 28.

"Thanks for coming up with contests like this," he adds. "It promotes art in the metal scene, something that goes hand-in-hand with our way of life. Up the Irons!"

Kerrang! - Iron Maiden - Maiden Heaven artwork

In addition to having his artwork adorn the cover of Maiden Heaven, Felipe receives a free annual subscription to Kerrang!.

Kerrang! thanks everyone who took part in the artwork competition.

Maiden Heaven, which features 15 world exclusive recordings of classic Iron Maiden anthems by some of Kerrang!'s favourite bands, will be available free only with the July 19 issue of Kerrang!.

For the full track-listing see next week's issue of the magazine. You won't believe the bands we've got lined-up, for what is undoubtedly the greatest CD ever given away free!

I like it.

I already know Dream Theater and Machine Head are doing covers for this, so this might not be quite the let down people thought it would be :)

Maiden Covers

First off the artwork is fantastic, that guy is obviously very talented.

For anyone that's interested the track Machine Head have covered for the CD is 'Hallowed By Thy Name', and Dream Theater have covered 'To Tame A Land'

I'm also fairly sure Coheed & Cambria will be covering 'The Trooper' seeing as they played it live a few times before.

I should be 'greatful' for MCR??? Don't talk shit. MCR should be grateful that the metal community hasn't beaten the crap out of them yet.

I'm a Maiden fanclub member, and although some of the covers sound interesting, is it really worth buying Kerrang for it? Can't they sell it separately for people who don't want to hear about the latest emo monstrocity?

enough of this NOW!!!!

why is everyone so stuck up when they find out some one listens to mcr they are not bad at all im standing up for a band that saved LIVES (which is more important then anything else)they might be shit to other people like you but really i dont give one, AND ITS NOT FUCKIN EMO ffs iv ad enough of the media fukin twistin things now i dont need you guys callin me "emo"...you see its people like you that get us all wound up and us wantin to slit ourself because we take enough crap for what it is, if your into metal or not its todays rock so get fuckin over it!!!, look all im tryin to say is we have our own opinions just let it be so what if we listen to mcr or maiden and stuff its nearly all the same its just we moan that chavs when they call us stuff when we are callin each other fuckin scene and emo and whats the other word I DONT KNOW, just get a grip and let people be happy for who they are its people like sophie lancaster and emma bond you should be feeling sorry for its people like those who get bullied and killed i heard a boy killed himself because he got bullied well see, its us making these people kill them selves we keep callin them scene and emo and you see when you start everyone else will join in, i only know this because im in the same situation and im sure a couple of you are as well but there is no need! and yes you should be "greatful" for they might have saved your friends friend or your friend or your cousin and so on and so on, MCR are the greatest most strongest band in the world ive never seen any other do what theyve done especially for what they have been through so id like to say a well done for those and im sure you will just have one moment to see how much lives theyve saved and how much effort they have put into to carry on savin lives listen to famous last words then you will see why so many people listen to them not because they are 'fake' but because they need help if they havnt got anyone to talk to they always have mcr beside them to help them carry on So im not afraid to keep on livin and i am not afraid to walk this world alone what about you?

"MCR should be grateful that the metal community hasn't beaten the crap out of them yet."

You sound like a fucking chav mate. Chavs go round beating up anyone who's different than them, and metallers beating up emos is just as sickening. The whole world is turning into chavs but I never thought the metal community would :'(

On topic however, Dream Theater, Machine Head, Metallica, C+C....gonna be ace. And that artwork is amazing!

Good cover, but I dread to think what the tracklisting will be, given the quality of Kerrang's "favourite" bands these days.....

Sharky, how many CDs do you see in the shops which are cheaper than the price of Kerrang?? How about you try this Brainiac... buy Kerrang, remove the CD from the cover and then don't read it!!! Hmmm? Coudl that work? Muppet.

Metal still alive?

Look at the facts. You remember back in the day when Kerrang used to be worth a read? And then that 3-year-ago transition into what we now call 'emo', and how it's pretty much ruined not Kerrang, but Kerrang as a metal promoting magazine? Music is no longer about enjoying the sound, or the thrill, and that shiver down your spine that you get from your favourite song- well, to society in general it isn't. You see all of these talentless (or at least much less talented than metal) bands out there, taking the light away from the eyes of new potential fans of metal, and giving them the impression that it doesn't even exist.
I hate how I can't relate to many of my friends to music, and only less than a handful truely appreciate metal for what it is. But the good thing is the people who are fans, you know that they like it for what it is, rather than following a trend of sorts. At least take that in stride, knowing your fellow metal fans are actually fellow, and won't leave you for emo and the like. They'll die out eventually.

Metal still alive?

*sigh*
For the love of crap, Kerrang was always a ROCK magazine, never a solely metal magazine.
And people can like whatever they want, I like Maiden and MCR.
So just fucking deal with it
Jeez, this is why I HATE metalheads, so fucking narrow-minded ignorant fuckwits, it makes me ashamed to like metal

Amazing atwork.
Going seeing Maiden two weeks on sat, should be amazing.!
To question metal still being alive.!
Metal will alweays be alive, that's the difference between metal and all the other genres like 'emo'.
Metal will die out
appreciate Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest
No modern day band can live up to what they brought.!

x
