Jimmy's a smart guy - he knows his fanbase now consists almost entirely of Gerard Way fangirls so he's ditch any punk pretence and served up a delicious dish of girly electronica so anodyne that with a little lyrical tweaking it could have been recorded by Britney Spears.

Idk why alot of people say the only reason people love them is because of the MCR factor. but i loved them since their album "tight" (pre-lyn-z) I really dont like MCR Mabey 1 song "thank you for the venom" and thats all the rest is crap.

Honestly...

I hate MCR. Always have, always will. They took the chorus of Give 'Em Hell, Kid's tune from Jawbreaker's song 'Fireman'. Artistic licensing? Maybe so. But Jawbreaker is my favorite band. Never heard of them? That's because most good bands aren't constantly featured on MTV and/or rock magazines. And Give Em Hell, Kid, is a shitty song IMHO.

MSI ain't much different with their constant sampling of other songs, but they sound a HELLUVA lot better than MCR to me.

In addition, to the wannabe-conspiracy theorists, congratulations. You've brought idiocy to a new level and taken away any faith in humanity I might have had left.

Last time I checked, the center of notierity and frontman was the male singer, not Whatsername the bassist, so please, if you're gonna be pissed at someone, be pissed at him. (Although, he didn't marry Gerard Way like Whatsername did. AAAAAAAwwwww, damn.) He's the one who writes the lyrics you fcking prudes keep on complaining about.

I don't think MSI's ever been about money. I think that they've always been about offending people to the sort of rabid indignance seen on most of the MCR fans here. Not a great technique, but, whatever.

Honestly...

I agree, most good music is by bands that you never see on MTV or even Kerrang..! I adore Reel Big Fish and most people have'nt heard of them outside the 'alternative' scene! I don't do it to feel 'unique' I just love them because the music they make is differant!!!!

Paramore ditched their UK fans for the Grammys, MSI meet all there fans after every show no matter what. Lyn Z is way more talented so just back the fuck off.

Sorry, the recent sucess of the band has EVERYTHING to do with Lyn-Z marrying Gerard Way! It's not a coincidence that MSI suddenly became noticed by more people when Lyn-Z tied the not. Well, yea i agree that they got like a billion more fans because of the marriage between lyn-z and gerard but they have some loyal fans. Ive liked them for years now.

but jimmys a genius and hes starting to stray away from old sounds to repell the new gerard-loving junior high school girls away because they destroy his abilities i guess. :P

I dont blame him. everytime italk to a MCR-fangirl, i tell them "Hey the bassist from my favorite band married the lead singer from your favorite band!" and they get all excited and i tell them to look up MSI and they get all ofended, especially with some of their old stuff. its priceless really. One of my favorite past-times.

Actually, I’ve seen a couple videos of Mindless Self Indulgence on the internet. Yes, she DOES actually prance around in a mini skirt, she kind of dances with her bass on stage, IN A MINI SKIRT! MSI is partly electro too, according to one issue of Kerrang!, the mentioned that in the article. I’d prefer to see Miley Cyrus live over seeing Lyn-z PRANCING AROUND IN A MINI skirt, any day.

bands like MSI are made popular by trashy little teeny boppers who wouldnt have a clue what decent music is if it jumped up and bit them on the backside! hurling sentences full of expletives at an audience of 13 year olds isnt big and clever, no matter how much their "fans" think they rock for it.
Personally i think Kerrang! is becoming far too plastered in piddly little trend bands like MSI, Madina Lake, Paramore and many many others. even the oldies like Metallica and Iron Maiden, succesful they may be but there becomes a point where ya get bored of seein their faces plastered all over music magazines.

Having loved MSI for many years, since my youth and their albums TIGHT and FGWSSS I have to admit that I think their success is highly due to the fact that nowadays, they look like every other band out there.
I remember reading so much about them and how they "detest mainstream music" however I found them so much more appealing when they came on stage dressed in DIY pink suits and drank their own piss and looked so less....perfect?
I think they deserved the fame in their younger days, nowadays....it's just not the same.

i havnt been listening to MSI for very long, but i do love them. i am completely obsessed. I also liked MCR years back before The Black Parade ( i was dissapointed with the album and their rising popularity) i had much respect for Gerard Way then, but i don't no much about him now.
Lyn Z is amazing, and none of you or even me know her enough to judge. In alot of ways i am upset that MCR is the reason why MSI is really getting out there. each of their albums has been different, so what can you expect?? some of you bitches saying it's more mainstream now. some of those songs were wrote way before then, and ya it might be more mainstream, but it doesnt suck. yea Jimmy is the one in the first place saying there is too many other bands out there saying it's good to be different. At least it still has them same twisted lyrics. and Jimmy singing 'Get It Up' with Chantel (his wife)?? that whole thing is messed up in the most perfect way.
if you upload their cd's completely different genre's will come up. FGWSSS shows up as metal?? YRTA comes up as electronica/dance? and IF just shows up as alternative &punk. If u mixed up all the songs i think you might be able to have an idea of which songs where on the same album. it was all wrote at different times, and people do change so u cant expect it to all be the same. and wouldnt it be boring if it all did have the same idea or sound? at least they are creative. I say let them do what they want. To me they are all gods.
For the people who are bitchin' and hating.. really, if u dont like them how about u dont waste ur time and energy dissin' them? i think it's awesome they got the front cover, so what if you dont like them, just dont buy this issue. i cant even get it where i live, so as soon as i see a copy on ebay, it's mine bitches!

Even SHE admits she's a shit bassist, and she doesn't write the music, Jimmy does. She's famous because of who she married - go to MSI's OWN website and check out the media coverage they've had before the marriage (almost none) compared to after!

People hate Lyn-Z because she's refused to acknowledge the HUGE debt she owes Gerard Way for selling out his own dignity and band ethic to promote her and her band and she comes across as angry, ungrateful, and deluded because of it.

Great personality you say? How about some public thanks for the man who took her on tour and sacrificed a significant minority of his own fanbase to do so. I don't agree with calling any woman a "whore" but the girl doesn't do herself any favours.

You don't particularly sound like an MCR fan so I doubt you'd know this but Gerard Way (and the rest of the band) avoid talking about their family and loved ones as much as possible. I very much doubt he'd want or expect the woman he married to make a huge deal over him in the press and publically thank him for the effect he has had on their success.
I also would hugely disagree that by marrying the woman he clearly adores (any interviews since the wedding would show you how happy he is now) he is selling out his own dignity.
The 'fans' My Chemical Romance lose because of this marriage won't be missed. The real mcr-my wouldn't care if he married her or anybody else.
Oh and by the way I agree with the others that said she's got a great personality. I don't know her personally but I have met her after a show. If she's so horrid and ungrateful she wouldn't be meeting her fans at all would she?

2. I went to a MSI gig - to, you know, give them a chance - and 80% of the audience were teenagers & "emo kids". I was probably the oldest person there who wasn't an adult chaperone and I'm 27!

3. 'IF' is an OK record, but so un-punk you could imagine, ermmm... Miley Cyrus, signing on half the tracks. If they want to be taken seriously they should stop slagging off girls like Hayley Williams who do have an actual musical talent.

Wow, who cares who people marry?! Last time I checked MSI was Jimmy Urine's band and who gives a shiat if the bassist is married to some cheese ball everyone worships for whatever reasons. As far as I'm concerned whatever goes on with Lyn-Z has shiat to do with Jimmy's music!
As for you who said MSI is like everything else, huh??MSI isn't like anything else out there...or at least nothing I've ever heard. Jimmy definitely does his own thing.
The new album is great. So what if it's not as "weird" and more structured. Musicians like to evolve and that's just what Jimmy is doing. And plus a lot of this album was helped along with fans...
Oh and it didn't take 10 years for MSI to get noticed, Jimmy's been doing fine here in the states for YEARS! Especially here in NY. And since when does being on the cover of Kerrang mean you made it? No offense, but just being on a magazine cover doesn't mean you weren't shiat before. I mean was Patton a nobody before he got on the cover?

I really like MCR and I have loved all their music and that is my personal taste. I don't agree with the whole "sell out" theme that keeps getting touted by fans. WTTBP was a concept album and hey, they had the balls to do something different. Although I do agree that teenie fans are the biggest pain the arse and there is nothing more annoying than a concert hall full of them.

Although I agree that perhaps Gerard has made the biggest mistake in his life by marrying the guttar twat. They sing songs that are totally against everything MCR stands for and I think that is were the disappointment is.

Gerard was always talking about how he hated the girls flashing their tits but his wife flashes her full bush to all and the lead singer sings about wanting sex from the fans.

As for people saying Mrs Gerard Way is "lovley" Well apparently she ain't that nice to the fans who wear MCR tops. A little hypocritical considering she goes out her way to get one from the crowd so she can wear it like a teenie.

I hope gerard wakes up and ditches the bitch before she turns Yoko and ruins a perfectly good band.

Fans of both bands have legitimate reasons to be upset with Kerrang! over their coverage of MSI since LynZ's marriage to Gerard Way.

1) There are three other members of the band and in the past Jimmy has been their spokesperson and rightly so. But have you seen any posters of him or Steve or Kitty platered all over this mag? Nope. Also, for the six years that LynZ was a part of MSI before the marriage, Kerrang never showed much interest in her, yet now she's getting solo interviews. Exactly why do you suppose that is? Because people have suddenly realized what an amazing bass player she is? Yeah, right.

2) In her recent interview LynZ complained about the attention she was getting from MCR fans, calling them little kids who were just interested in her because of her marriage and said she wanted no part of it, despite the fact that right after the marriage, MCR took MSI out on tour with them to do what? Certainly not to expose their fans to MSI, since LynZ wants no part of that. Once again, yeah. Right. MSI has done everything they possibly could to capitalize on the association with MCR and now she's complaining about it?

Does that make her a whore? Maybe not. A manipulative lying asshole? You betcha.

It's all so sad but I think I will always like MCR, not for the "saving my life" bullshit but because I like their music and I like them as people (from what i've seen anyway)

It just seems that Gerard has really put everything at risk by marrying trash and associating himself and his band with a group that is against everything MCR stood for.

What you don't know about MSI

I know that it's hard to believe that a band that is so playful in their attempt to entertain is actually smart and thoughtful but consider this if you will. Just because a band discusses an offensive subject does not mean that they agree with the subject matter. This is true , even when they speak from the point of view of the subject as in the case of 'panty shot'. It takes a careful look at Jimmy's lyrics to see just how smart he really is. He often writes from the point of view of what he hates to get people thinking for themselves. He's not out to be a social leader nor does he make self adoring claims to save peoples lives. He writes from a dark place at times and with such conviction that less intelligent people often take him literally. Jimmy writes for shock value to garner attention and sell concert tickets. Does the average MSI fan go to a gig and walk away with a new found conviction to change the World? No, they go to be entertained.

Hello,
I'm 37 yo working musician from Australia and have been a fan of MSI since I first discovered them 7 years ago. They are huge here. Interestingly, MCR are considered corney and for teeny boppers here while MSI are what people in bands listen to. More "heavy" bands in Australia are influenced by MSI here than you would imagine. They are seen as the "artists" in the music world. We are all just too afraid to do what they do into our music because no one wants to step out of line and take a chance. I love MSI for their music, their shows but mostly for their balls. Jimmy is fucking fearless.

Sure they were on Soundwaves but a majority of kids in the mosh were wearing mcr shirts.
I have noticed more people wearing their shirts around the city...but thats only recently..so I wouldn't give them that much credit.

MSI have been playing to thousands of people every night here in the states for many years before MCR ever had their first rehearsal. Even though some of you have only just heard of them because of MCR, they sold out every show they've played in London well before Gerrard asked Lynz to marry him. I know this because I was lucky enough to see 3 of those headlining shows but was unfortunately too late to get a ticket to the last sold out show at the Astoria. American fans are more into music and less into gossip. I'm sad about all of the attention on their bassist personal life and how little attention Kerrang places on their creativity.

FYI they didn't sell out their recent UK tour, or the US one - even WITH all the fangirls hoping to catch a glimpse of Gerard Way.

I don't hate MSI, I'd just prefer to see REAL female musicians given a fraction of the attention this woman gets for who she's screwing. I'd also like to see a little appreciation from her for what MCR has done for her instead of throwing f-bombs around with mock indignation.

I'll admit I went to a show because I was interested to see "Mrs Gerard Way" in the flesh (in Yeovil) and looking around me I'm pretty sure fully half the audience were teenage girls there for the same reason. The music was OK, the lyrics didn't offend me because I couldn't understand what he was saying(!) and it was a fun show, but it wasn't anything special.

Oh, and Lyn-Z did ruin MCR - I only liked them 'cos Gerard was cute but now he looks like a hobo let loose in a pie shop!

ive seen them live @ projekt revolution and i cnt stand their music.

Right, I don't care for MSI either way, but I've looked at the comments on arcticles for lots of band, and to be honest, these days, can you actually like an artist without someone coming along sticking their opinion up your arse? MSI was a sensation in 1999 when they released Tight (well before MCR existed). They became more popular when they rsupported Rammstien, then more when they released Frankenstein Girls.. And even more when they supported Korn. Then even more when they supported System Of A Down. Then again when they supported MCR.
It's pretty obvious that Lynz isn't ungrateful to any of the bands that have helped MSI reach a larger audience. She's pissed that she (or any woman for that matter) is seen as a wife first and her own person second. People calling her a whore because she married her best friend are a good example of that. Sadly most of these haters are women themselves.

WOW, @ this. For real. So you have MCR & MSI. MSI has been around since I was in kindergarten & I'm 18 now. I heard about them in 2005 & I hated them then. After reading all this nonsense, I went to MSI's press page and it seems that MSI had features in Kerrang before MCR ever eng gotten a record to the UK. In fact 2 years AFTER this article came out in Kerrang, MSI helped MCR by having them open for them. MCR was going to pay tthem back even before Lynz and G got married.
As it turns out, due to scheduling conflicts it didn't happen till after they got married. Like it or not, the fact is that MCR became bigger because they are a much more mainstream band that played a form of music that was already popular (EMO) while MSI the inventor of their own genre.

While you were on that press page did you also happen to see that MSI has gotten more press since the September of 2007 than the entire 8 or so years before that?

From May 1999 until August 2007, MSI was in Kerrang! 3 times. From September 2007 until the present, they've graced its pages 12 times (counting this issue).

As for MSI helping MCR out years ago, how come none if the band members ever mentioned them before?

Hey Kimmy,
So are you saying Franks love of MSI is some sort of conspiracy and that MCR never opened for MSI??? Hahahaha. The fact is with a little bit of effort you'd see that it's a matter of public record. The Village Voice did a piece on the fact that MSI sold out 3 nights at Irving Plaza in NYC in December of 2003. The writer pointed out that part of what made the sell outs shows so significant was that MSI did it without the help of a record label, publicist, print advertising, radio support of any kind or even from performing mainstream (read "Alternative/Emo") music. The first time most people even heard of the shows were well after they were already sold out. They kind of snuck up on everyone. You either knew about them or you didn't and apparently, the band liked it that way. Each night of the 3 night stand they had different support acts that the band wanted to help in some way. One night was underground "darker" artists including Rasputina, one night was underground "hip hop" artists including The Human Orchestra and one was reserved for unsigned rock acts that MSi thought were promising. My Chemical Romance from New Jersey was the support act and Tubring from Chicago was the opener. Lyn-Z's lungs had collapsed just over a week before the shows but (as the story goes) she insisted on playing all three nights. MSI fans flew in from all over the world from these shows. I personally met other fans that came from all over the US , Canada and as far away as Osaka, Japan, Mexico City and my longtime boyfriend from Hamburg, Germany. Years later it seemed that Tubring returned the favor by introducing MSI to The End Records which just put out their most recent record and MCR offered to take them on tour. None of us fans knew at the time that Lyn-Z and Gerard were going to get married the summer before (I get the feeling they didn't know either from what I've gathered). What we, as early fans of both bands did know was that MSI & MCR had been friends for many years and they had a mutual respect for each other even though they both would make fun of each other just for fun. If you weren't around in NYC back before MCR got signed, and assuming that you're British, you weren't, there would be no reason why you would know this information, but it's not an opinion. It's a verifiable fact. If you don't like MSI that's fine and of course it really all comes down to personal taste. MSI fans (of which MCR's members seem to include themselves) love that Jimmy expresses something very dark with a very twisted sense of humor and often from a third person view. This third person style of writing isn't for everyone. Certainly not fans that are used to having lyrics expressed literally and from the point of view of the first person. As Kerrang themselves admitted on the cover of this weeks issue, MSI is adored, hated and misunderstood all at the same time. Just because they might not be to your liking, lets not get crazy with conspiracy theories, especially when the information isn't all that difficult to find...providing that you are actually interested in finding it instead of just tearing down people whom you don't actually know other than from magazine articles that are edited for the sake of maximizing sales. We all know that publishers sell more magazines when there is controversy and not from from actually reporting news so it shouldn't surprise anyone that they'd be winding up MCR fans who were already upset at Gerard and Lyn-Z's marriage. But gee wiz, I would never accuse Kerrang of creating a controversy where it doesn't actually exist just to sell more magazines.

Wow, thanks for the dissertation and that was all terribly interesting, but for all your "insider knowledge" you still did not show me where a member of MCR ever mentioned MSI in the press before September of 2007, although they've gone out of their way to mention other bands who've helped them along.

I'm not disputing anything you just said. What I am saying is that Kerrang! would not be so heavily promoting MSI right now if not for their association with MCR.

So What? Kerrang might be a big deal in the UK (which by the way is fucking tiny as hell) but it doesn't mean shit ioutside of Europe and Australia. Kerrang's distribution in N. America is spotty at best. MSI's biggest coverage has been in Spin, Rolling Stone, Revolver and Alternative Press. All of which are huge over here (you know, the country that's a hundred times the size of the UK) most of which was printed before MCR released their very first record. Keep in mind that MSI was headlining the Revolution Stage for Projekt Revolution (over Saosin, Madina Lake etc) before all this went down with G & Lyn-Z. Even today in some cities in the US MSI & MCR headline the exact same venues! That's right. Just because most MCR fans just recently heard of MSI doesn't mean that the rest of the world had their head in the sand waiting to be told who does and who doesn't exist by British tabloids disguised as rock press. As far as MCR not mentioning MSI, again, so what? Back in the day, MSI didn't mention MCR either. It's deeds not words that matter. MSI helped MCR when they needed a leg up and years later MCR did the same. And if MCR are inconsistent with who they mention, again, so what? They're human, and humans, last I checked, are an inconsistent bunch. :)

Okay, Mr. Know-it-all, what you don't know is that I'm not from the UK, but an American.

MCR and MSI often headline the exact same venues in the US? Bull fucking shit. Get your fact sstraight before you try to pull shit like that. MSI's recent "headling" tour in the US has been playing to venues that hold approximately 1500 people and many of them have not even sold out, whereas The Black Parade Tour was playing venues that hold five or more times that many people. You can't count MCR's most recent tour since it was purposely geared towards smaller venues as sort of a "going away" present.

Not to mention, you addressed your comment specifically to me and although you wrote lots and lots of words, none of them applied in the least to anything I had to say.

I'd also like to suggest that you stop insulting the Brits on this site. You aren't doing yourself or MSI any good.

I have had a subscription to both Spin and Rolling stone for over ten years. I didn't see anything about msi until Lynz got with Gerard way.

And the Uk maybe a smaller country but many acts (American ones) have gone to the UK to get big first. Rock bands and boy bands.

You must be a msi fan who has their head so far up Lynz ass that you can see straight to try and come here and lie like you this.

In the past ten years, MSI has been in Rolling Stone two times: one 3 star review for Frankenstein Girls and a picture of Lyn-Z doing a backbend at PR. Wow. Is that your idea of a lot of coverage?

They've been in Spin twice, Revolver 3 times and AP 5 times - in ten fucking years.

Maybe you're confused and have mistaken MSI for some other band. Or maybe you're full of shit.

They are a great female fronted band from San Diego who are definately worth checking out!

Missed out on Download this year but fingers crossed they could make their Donington debut next year.

In Germany doing shows/festivals in July.
