"Ghosts and paranormal activity is something that I've always been sceptical of," Wednesday confessed. "Seeing as I was here on tour my management suggested that I should maybe hang around and try my hand at some hunts. I did one in Sheffield that was pretty uneventful, so hopefully tonight might be a little more interesting."
Kicking off at 10pm, the first half of the tour - which ran until 2am - was largely uneventful, with a team of psychic mediums giving the group a brief tour of the 11th century building; a former prison-turned-hotel that also featured in the 1969 film The Italian Job. However, shortly after midnight, events of the strange and spooky kind began to unfold, ranging from glass moving in the castle's crypt to a first-hand, unsettling paranormal experience involving Kerrang! scribe Ryan Bird in the tower.
"It was surreal," Wednesday recalls. "From the moment we stepped into the tower I got a really weird vibe. Whatever was in there seemed to be really attracted to Ryan. I saw a strange light surrounding him that would glow whenever he breathed really deeply, which was weird seeing as it was so dark that I couldn't see my own hand.
"The glass moving wasn't so intense, but there was definitely something going on there too," he adds.
"The freaky part was when we removed our fingers from the glass, only for it to move totally unaided! I'm definitely walking away from the experience with a much more open mind."
