Gojira, the France-based progressive metallers, have started work on the follow-up to 2005's From Mars To Sirius in Los Angeles with producer and ex-Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader.
"My brother Joe [frontman] worked with Logan on the Cavalera Conspiracy album last year, explains drummer Mario Duplantier. "He's very professional and calm and exactly the kind of person we needed to produce Gojira's fourth album. We knew he liked our music and we simply wanted to try a fresher approach."
Duplantier explains that their Californian trip was spent just recording drums for their upcoming fourth album and had no time to take in Los Angeles' sights.
"It's a crazy city and very spread out," smiles Duplantier. "We were just excited at the idea of being there to record in a place that gave birth to a lot of great bands.
"Drums are a complex instrument to record but they sound really big!" he adds. "We're going to focus on the rest of the album in our own studio in France with our live engineer Laurentx Etchemendy. Logan will mix the whole abum in Los Angeles later on."
But how will the finished album sound?
"It's too early to say, but I think it'll be darker than its predecessors, a little bit more experimental in some places, more violent and melodic at the same time!" he explains. "As usual, it was written in a spontaneous way and it definitely shows what Gojira is about in 2008."
