classic rock had its time, and is best left on old vinyls to be reminisced over by old men and women with perms. :)

Classic Rock is ten times better than most modern music. It's definitely a good thing that old bands are releasing albums again.
KISS at Download this year will be the greatest thing known to man :D.

Personally I would say bands who return after years out are motivated commercially rather than musically. It's a shame when great modern bands like Machine Head put in a lot of hard work and miss the charts, then bands like Def Leppard blast in on reputation alone.

It's only classic because it hasnt moved on since the eighties unlike bands such as Iron Maiden, who have remained popular by adapting and improving

Personally I reckon this is all Nickleback and "rockstar"'s fault. This, world hunger, global warming and almost all of the rest of the Earth's problems

If it wasn't for classic rock then we wouldn't have new shit, and it's because of all the new bands that epic music is now 'classic' I'm not discouraging more recent bands, I just think it's a piss take when older people, with not so nice hair aren't appreciated because they're not 'scene' enough.
I personally love a whole mix of stuff, but hate it when I have something like def or even G'n'R playing and someone asks what I'm listening to?!?!

WELCOME BACK REAL ROCK :D

Why would they, after all, like most older forms of music, their music has been vilified by Kerrang over the years.

Just because something is new does not mean it is improved. Take New Coke for instance, or that New Persil which destroyed clothes rather than cleaned them.
Same goes for music.

No! We have grown up in a way that we now happily swap our Whitesnake records For Bullet for my Valentine and our Def Leppard records for LostProphets. We are all about music from our generation and not of those who listened to rock while wearing flares and sporting afros.

Honestly, its great to see bands my parents listened to in their youth still going to this day. Bands such as Fall Out Boy and PATD wont last with time, fans have and will slip away. But in years to come we know all the classic rock music will be listened to by many generations of people.

classic rock has always been an influence on everybody. Even if someone doesnt know it, it has. Since its start, people have been influenced by it. These people have made bands with similar or distinctive things but influenced by this classic rock.
People will always be influenced by classic rock due to the fact that its in our roots. We always have leave space for those who did what they once did. Thanx to them, many bands that we like and bands like us, are where we are today.
So the answer is

YES!!!

I think that classic rock bands, unless they've stayed current throughout time, will find it very hard to get back into the stream of things as they are today.

burning question - classic rock

I too think that classic rock never really faded. Without the substantial classic rock genre then the progression of today's bands might have been slower if you consider that a lot of inspiration stems from bands such as Kiss and Led Zeppelin. In classic rock you have bands that have an identifiable sound, Iron Maiden for example, whereas currently bands are producing sounds that are very similar, pleasing the commercial world.

It's good to add a little bit of classic rock back into the mix, it brings more variety into the music scene.

I couldn't give a toss, both bands are only known for their most famous songs. They've had their 15 minutes of fame, so I ain't welcoming it. Plus it would mean a considerable amout of hairspray being sold.

Without the classsic Rock bands of the past there would be no current music scene for us to listen to. There must be a level of appreciation for those who have 'Rocked' before us!! the important thing is not to copy them but let their music carry our inspiration.
Do not go where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path... and leave a trail.

Nah, I do not think this to be a good idea.
They are old and should stay that way.
They are only as good as they are now because it was back in the day.
Their music would not be appreciated these days.
Plus they should let some others newer bands have a chance.

Classic Has Class ^.^

If there's one thing I don't actually mind going backwards it's rock - I mean fashion, subcultures and remixes of pop songs that were testing the limits of human agravation in their day let alone now are the kinds of mistakes we should think twice before repeating, but rock is different.

Bring back the crazy classic stereotypical rock Gods of the day, bring back original riffs and shreds, comprehendable singing and screeching falseto notes that would give Mika a run for his money.

I think we are already to go back to going to rock shows that really bring the raw deal with them - look at My Chemical Romance for example, they may not have gone back entirely to the classic sound and everything but they looked backwards to get some of their inspiration for The Black Parade and look how big that was!

I for one welcome the return, and hope that with it we will see the standards raised across all kinds of rock.

Hell Yeah...classic rock is what bred todays music. You can trace every band back to the bands from the past that influenced them and it would be ignorant to disregard the oldies. we should all sit back and watch the masters at work. Plus, theres nothing sexier than a man with a peroxide perm ;-)

Classic Rock?

If its classic rock then it should be what a classic truly is...twenty years gone.
The bands of twenty years ago were the new bands of the time and that was great, but the bands of the time now are the classics of the future.
It's time to move FORWARD people, nobody wants to see David Coverdale in spandex anymore!

I've got mixed views. Judging by the K! Best 100 Band ever poll, your readers could do with being exposed to bands dating back past 2002. In saying that, I don't think these bands should be making comebacks chart-wise. Anyway, am I the only one that thinks Gene Simmons belongs in a retirement home?

Burning Question.....

I for one am thrilled that these bands are back making music again, without them we wouldnt have all these new amazing bands that were inspired by them in the first place. Iam going to see Whitesnake and Def Leppard when they play and i cant wait! You dont have to be an old codger with a bad perm to appreciate them... Iam a 28 year old woman and i love them, and on another point iam soooo excited that KISS have agreed to play Download even though i cant aford to go coz they arent doing day tickets. Whats up with that??? I was realy looking forward to seeing KISS and HIM (again, i saw them in December and they were brilliant!) Scuppered once again! Oh well maybe i'll be lucky next time....

Classic Rock

I won't be going out to buy the new Leppard or Whitesnake albums because it's not really my bag; I loved them years ago, not so much any more. I do however think it's great that Kerrang is helping to bring the old stuff back!

I remember the very first Kerrang cover - the almighty Angus Young (ACDC) adorned the cover. Now that's classic rock for you.

Classic rock has never disappeared really; Led Zepellin reformed, Iron Maiden are rocking Twickenham in July. There's so many more I could name, but this is too much of an essay already.

Kerrang have always been at the forefront of rock and I've bought it every week without fail for about 15 years; it's like the bible to me. You started with classic rock and you're going back to it again which I think is brilliant. It just shows that what goes around comes right back around again and slaps you in the fizog!

If it's played well, performed well and sounds great then who gives a flying f*@! whether it's the next big thing or rock from yesteryear; IT'S MUSIC AND IT UNITES!

Love you Kerrang; keep rockin'!

RE: 'Classic Rock'

The return of classic rock? It never went away. Whitesnake, Leppard, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Maiden, Priest, Europe etc. have been releasing consistantly good albums throughout the 90s and naughties. You think they just disappeared after the 80s? Hell no. It was media coverage that disappeared with the onset of rock-polluting genres such as grunge and emo. But the classic sound has always been there for the millions of young people not duped by these depressing talent-less genres championed by magazines such as Kerrang. And with the emergance of great bands with the classic sound such as The Answer, Buchcherry and Voodoo 6 - people seem to be listening.

No its doesn't attract the reader to classic rock really. Well there's loads of unsigned and signed rock bands. Well the classic rock that appear in kerrang don't interest anyone tbh. Everyone nower days prefer heavy rock,rock/alternative stuff. The stuff people listen to who read kerrang are nothing like whitesnakeandDef leppard

Kerrang Burning Question

This is the sort of music that belongs in the charts. The rock industry has suffered lately due to a lack of decent bands recreating the sound of bands like Def Leppard and Whitesnake; they seem to be more Indie or what some people consider Emo. Classic Rock never died so it's hardly a return as Classic Rock bands are still gigging and pulling in the crowds, it's just that they lost popularity as some music lovers saw them as being stuck in the 80's and saw genres such as Indie, Emo, and the metal subgenres as more contemporary than the bands which influenced them.

I think in a time like this when theres so many old fashions, and everything is "IN" like emo and punk which was around years ago...That there is probably a possibility of people enjoying some old bands coming back... but personaly i cant stand old music! i mean sure if there wasnt bands like def leppard and kiss or whatever there wouldnt be the bands we have today but we should focus on the future... theyve had their time its only fair!

but when u look at there old stuff and compare it to the new stuff its better (well in my eyes)

todays band use machines to help improve there music

"back in the day" lol black sabbath, white snake etc... never did that they just played and had a machine tone it down a bit

not make them a number one hit
they did that themselves
i think i might buy there cd

It just deepends on what you think is rock, what yuo think is classical rock, what you think is metal and so on. I prefer classical rock, because some pop-like bands are called rock and seriusly they are no where near rock. And classical rock, well it's always classical rock, and not pop-rock.

NO TO CLASSIC ROCK !!!

Dear K!,
Fair enough, I can see why rock legends like Aerosmith would be lokked up to by many rising acts. However, with people like Marilyn Manson revolutionising rock and metal, I don't really see any point in classic rock returning. It seems to me that classic rock has lived and belongs in the 80s. Especially with bands like BFMV dominating the scene right now.

Cavemen ran around with sticks and beat animals up. Much like five year olds. RIGHT. That classic behaviour had its time and now it's over, for most of us. Just like classic rock, it had its time and now it's over. We should welcome new rock, and progress towards newer music.

I still buy a copy every week but all the good metal bands seem to be being forgotton about and all the shitty classic bands that have already had their time to shine are taking over again and i think the only old bands worth staying in publicity are ... To be honest i think Kerrang! is beggining to go quite shit! I still buy a copy every week but all the good metal bands seem to be being forgotton about and all the shitty classic bands that have already had their time to shine are taking over again and i think the only old bands worth staying in publicity are ... Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Led Zepplin and Metallica!
Leave the rest to the modern metal bands that have potential!!

Erm...

I can't say that I'm bothered, as I like old and new stuff, but as the 'Classic Rock' bands have had their turn in the limelight, and don't get me wrong, most of them were pretty good, but there are so many good new bands out there to listen to, maybe they should get their well-deserved turns in the spotlight.

Oh, hell yeah! Not just Classic Rock, but return the sound of traditional heavy metal! If done correctly, 2010 may just be the best year in the 21st century, EVER!

Yeah i'm bothered! without classic rock bands being there to lay the foundations for the rock/metal scenes we wouldn't have the artists we have today
Bring back the classics!

i think it will be good to get some classic rock back in the charts today, it seems that all these new 'emo' bands are taking over slightly and we are forgetting the reason why we all know and love rock 'n' roll

I Like Some Older Stuff But I Like It Cos Its Old. I Dont Think They Will Be Able To Compete With Some Of The Newer Music. They Had There Time And Were Loved. End Of.

Burning Question-Classic rock

Tbh i don't really care for the return of classic rock! im luvin the new bands out there and their music is more appealing to me! Newer bands like MCR andand BFMV are more insperational and alot of people are listening to them!

Burning Question- Classic Rock

I really don't like 80's/90's metal / rock being called 'Classic Rock'! Makes me feel like I'm over 60 instead of a young 38. Plus Kerrang radio doesn't play enough of a mixture of old and new music in my opinion.

Burning Question

Classic rock bands are great and they truly the foundations of most rock bands out today but they should just be left in their legendary state and learn to grow old gracefully.

Burning Question

It didn't go away to start with

thats like saying bands like whitesanke n def leppard n bon jovi have been retired since there prime and only just making a comeback

they have been doing tours for years now its just that they have some new matirial

i mean when i was like 5 my dad let me listen to his old leppard tapes n sex pistols tapes

if it wernt for bands like leppard i probs wudnt be the metalhead i am now

i went from leppard to pistols and now every source of rock and metal

in 30 years bands like bullet, sevenfold, cancer bats, gallows, devildriver, killswitch

they will be classed as classive metal or rock

soo it will never die but it will keep growing as the years go on

xx

Burning question

My burning question is what is classic rock... Where do we draw the line - The Kinks, The Who, Hendrix, Free, Led Zep?
or is it Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Queen, AC/DC?
or is it The Crue, G 'N' R, Slayer, Metallica, Skid Row?
or is it the stuff that first got me rocking like Nirvana, Wildhearts, Soundgarden, Pixies, AIC, Pantera...
Not to mention bands like The Clash, Pistols, Motorhead, Ramones, Specials and Black Flag who are as relevant today as they ever were - Part of rock music's value is the ability to break down prejudice and discrimination (age included)

Personally, I don't think it matters how old or new the music is. If it rocks, I'll listen to it!

BURNING Q

I welcome it with open arms!

I think it's about time that classical rock was back on top!
They are the reason music is as good as it is today, they were great influences and still are!
ROCK ON!

The Burning Question.

Yes. I would much rather listen to the classic rock as done by the original artists, as apposed to all these bands that pop up and try to copy it.
Remember about a year ago all those bands appeared out of nowhere trying to copy Iron Maiden?
If you're going to listen to it, you might as well listen to the artists who originally wrote such music.

The Burning Question - Classic Rock

I see alot of Pre-judging in the postings here: "too old" "past their best" "Cheesey" "Commercially Motivated"

These bands may not be 'cutting edge' bbut once they were slated as radical and 'just noise' just like the newer rock bands are. These bands are still aound and touring for a reason, they are good and if they can still produce new albums that go top10 then they are still relevant and to be applauded. I saw them in Birmingham 18/6/08, still putting on a superb show.

If you don't like the music, fine! but put your prejudice aside!
