New Zealand-based radio station, The Rock FM, have been forced to apologise after an April Fools' Day prank went wrong.
The station, based in Auckland, alleged that the Foo Fighters would be playing a secret acoustic show at the city's Powerstation venue yesterday morning.
Expecting 50 or so listeners to turn up, The Rock FM planned on playing the new Foo's album, Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace, on repeat for the assembled throng as part of their April Fool's day prank. However, several thousand people nationwide booked the day off work, some even booking flights, to attend 'the show'.
"It caused absolute carnage," admitted the station's programme director Brad King. "I arrived back in the country today after a week long holiday and heard of the announcement. This is an April Fools' gag, dreamed up by our over enthusiastic promotions department and was completely untrue.
"On behalf of The Rock I sincerely apologise for this misinformation. Contracts have been terminated, and heads have rolled. This is what happens when fools plan April Fools' jokes."
