Nine Inch Nails have sold out of the limited edition ultradeluxe boxed set version of their new album, Ghosts I-IV, in just three days. The four LP set, which went on sale this past Monday, was limited to just 2,500 copies and retailed via the band's website for $300 a pop.
We dragged out the Kerrang! calculator and did the maths, and, boys and girls, you'll be pleased to know that band mianman Trent Reznor has netted a cool $750,000 from sales of the boxed set alone. Nice!
Ghosts I-IV is also available as a digital download for just $5 or there is also the option of buying a CD version for $10 and a deluxe edition package (two audio CDs, a data DVD with all 36 tracks in multi-track format and a Blu-Ray disc with Ghosts I-IV in high-definition 96/24 stereo with an accompanying slideshow) for $75.
Yet, despite the low price point, Ghosts I-IV is currently the most popular rock release being shared by people over peer-to-peer BitTorrent networks. According to a report on tech website The Register yesterday, The Pirate Bay has eight thousand concurrent downloads of Ghosts I-IV.
