Gym Class Heroes singer in rehab

Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy has revealed on his online blog that he has been addicted "to pharmaceuticals since I was 15 years old," and the 26-year-old is now in his second stint in a detox program.

"I never talked about getting fucked up in songs to sound cool or to gain points. It was my life, day in day out," says McCoy, "it's how I coped with everything. To anyone else struggling with this shit, it is conquerable, you can beat it."

Too Rock for Hip-Hop, too Hip-Hop for Rock

GCH are alwayd described as being "too Rock for Hip-Hop, too Hip-Hop for Rock". I like to think they are Rock, just. Travis wasn't always famous, when he was 15 he probably saw pharmaceuticals as a way to escape the bad parts of his life and became addicted. Now he's doing something about it and getting his life back in order what's wrong with that? Atleast he's doing something about his drug promblems instead of acting like God and writting songs about how cool it is to do drugs like some Rock stars do.

Funnily enough it's not obvious, you just seem to think that it's chavvy because a few chavs might listen to it, I know plenty of 'chavs' who listen to metal so does that make metal 'chav music' aswell? GCH don't write songs about beating random people senseless for no reason, drinking and getting drugged up in parks and impregnating underage girls, they aren't even chavs themselves so naturally I see nothing chavvy about them.

Well, surely the number of comments this has generated shows you all why it got posted here? Whether you guys like it or not, by clicking on this page, by reading this news, you're all showing that there is a market here in rock for news about GCH. Go into the sunshine for a while, get away from the computer and read something that you actually care about, instead of whining on about GCH here when there are real fans reading.

this is such a shame!

so we just read a story about an artist that's making a major change in his life and taking control of his life...and this is all you have to say? That GCH is not "rock" so why is it in Kerrang? Are you serious?

GCH is smack-dab in the middle of rock and hip hop...hence why are seen as being a breath of fresh air by some in the hip hop world and something kind of different in the rock world. They fit in in both genres! So please don't be so closed minded...you're welcome to dislike them if you want...but don't just dis them becuase they aren't "rock".

Have some respect for the dificult time Travis is going through...you'd want the same respect if it was you...wouldn't you? Of course you would!

I for one wish him all the best in the world, and hope that he is able to recognize the strength in himself stay clean. I'm sure it's not easy, but i have total faith in him that he can do it!

pete wentz and fueled by ramen

just to clarify pete wentz doesnt run fueled by ramen, it was started by John Janick and Vinnie Fiorello (drummer and lyricist of Less Than Jake). Pete Wentz runs Decaydnace which is an imprint of the fueled by ramen label

The label has been accused lately of a change in ideals and putting "style over substance". This is in part due to the change in the kind of bands signed to the label, and probably has a lot to do with the success of Fall Out Boy and following that, Panic At The Disco, and the creation of Pete Wentz's imprint Decaydance.

exactly! Korn used to wear adidas tracksuits! just coz GCH wear hoodies and caps and are in the genre of hip hop rock doesn't mean kerrang can't post a small article about them!

Also consider that some ppl like a lots of different music. I like rock music and i like GCH.....it is possible to like both.

I agree, they don't exactly fit in with the other artists featured in Kerrang! (they're a hip-hop band, after all), but you could at least be a little considerate and think about the poor guy and what he might be going through before saying you hope he dies in rehab?
I won't say anything else now, except just think about the words you write or say before you actuay voice them.

And yeah, I'm not really into GCH, but consider what other people, or fans think about them. It's not just your opinion that actually matters. =/
GCH aren't purely 'rock', I'll grant you that. But they somehow fall into the genre of 'hip-hop rock', same as Linkin Park and Korn. But even so, Kerrang!, being a ROCK magazine, has the right to report on ALL TYPES of rock.
