Musicians across the UK are being given a life-changing opportunity as MySpace and Vertigo Films combine to search for new music to feature on a national film soundtrack.
Faintheart is the world's first user-generated feature film shaped by the MySpace community, with the soundtrack being the final stage before completion.
From today, visitors to uk.myspace.com/mymoviemashup2 have the chance to create tracks for the British-made film, which will be released to UK audiences in the autumn.
The closing date for entries is 24th March, when a shortlist of five entries will be selected by a judging panel, including Faintheart director Vito Rocco and music supervisor Lol Hammond from Vertigo Films. Each of the five chosen will make the film's soundtrack album, but following a two week public vote by MySpace users, three will also be used in the actual film. The final results will be announced on 7th April.
Faintheart is a comedy that follows the lives of a group of people who re-enact Viking battle scenes as a hobby. Vito Rocco gives the following tips on the variety of music he is looking for on the soundtrack:
"We're looking for the music for the world of the film. Mostly music without lyrics, but include some if you think they're appropriate. Simple use of (maybe unusual) instruments such asukulele, banjo, accordion, cello, mandolin, flute, xylophone. Or it might be just a guitar with some simple percussion, all recorded at home. We're not looking for a highly polished, studio recorded sound. We're after something more DIY."
In addition, Vito Rocco gives some tips for Kerrang! readers on the soundtrack required for two of the scenes throughout the film that will also be featured on the soundtrack.
1. DEATH METAL
"There's a scene where Richard recreates the date in a pub where he met Cath for the first time. Playing that night was a local death metal band who were very loud and very fast. Think Kreator."
2. HEAVY METAL
"Something Vikings would like to listen to, with nice guitar solos. This is to be used in the scene where Richard drives Martin to school and also where Richard and Julian pick Martin up from school, before they play the Tenpole Tudor track on the stereo. Think 'Warrior' by Saxon."
