Biffy, Madina and Fightstar for Download!

Biffy Clyro, Madina Lake and Fightstar are the latest slew of rocking acts set to play this year's Kerrang!-sponsored Download Festival at Donington Park from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June.

Scottish superstars Biffy Clyro are excited to be part of this year's weekend of fun.

"I think Download is such a special event because of the bands and the type of people who go to the festival," Biffy bassist James Johnston tells Kerrang!.

"We've played it twice before and really enjoyed it both times. We're gonna go out there and play our songs as loud and as hard as we can. Just don't ask us to leave until all the beer's finished!"

Chicago punk rockers Madina Lake are over the moon (as per usual) to be a part of this year's event.

"It is so awesome!," bassist Matthew Leone tells Kerrang!. "We just found out we are playing! It's like the golden ticket for us... we're so excited. The perfect way to put this record away and get ready to play the next one is to play Download. We've been huge fans of that festival for ages, we've always wanted to play it and it's a dream come true. It's always such a fun vibe at festivals too; everybody takes the day off of work or school and they are in that mode to want to have fun all day long, and it creates this good energy around the whole site. We can't wait!"

Meanwhile, Fightstar - Madina's Kerrang! Relentless Energy Drink Tour partners - can't wait to rock out at Download once again!

"I think it's one of the best festivals we have here in the UK," frontman Charlie Simpson tells Kerrang!. "It's the only one that is predominately rock-based. The other festivals are great - but a lot of them have an indie side to the them, whereas Download is all rock and metal - which is what we like! It's a good one to be a part of, and there are some great bands playing, it's a mental line-up! I really want to see Kiss and Jimmy Eat World, and it will be great to be able to hang out with those Madina boys again!"

Simpson hopes this year's performance will be a little less painful than their last appearance at the festival in summer 2006.

"It was the day after my 21st birthday and we had had a massive party, I was suffering the next day," laughs the singer. "It was okay, though. I remember thinking it was really nice day, and the backstage area was really chilled and we were able to hang out with everybody and all the different bands got on. It was cool."

The Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival will be headlined by: Kiss, The Offspring and Lostprophets.

The full list of other bands on the bill so far is as follows: 36 Crazy Fists, A Day To Remember, Alesana, Alter Bridge, Apocalyptica, Biffy Clyro, Bleeding Through, Bullet For My Valentine, Cavalera Conspiracy, Children Of Bodom, Chris Cornell, Coheed & Cambria, Disturbed, Fightstar, HIM, Incubus, In Flames, Job For A Cowboy, Jonathan Davis, Jimmy Eat World, Judas Priest, Kid Rock, Madina Lake, Motorhead, Rise Against, Seether, Simple Plan, The Black Dahlia Murder, Throwdown, The Devil Wears Prada, The Dillinger Escape, The Subways and Within Temptation.

Mkay, number one: Coheed and Madina within 1 mile of each other after the K! tour incident probably isn't the best idea.

Number two: does anyone know if Download are going to be selling Day Passes this year?

Number three: fuck yeah, Madina Lake are playing download. *Has a fit*

wtf are people always moaning!!!???

DOWNLOAD IS NOT A METAL FESTIVAL ANYMORE!!!

honestly all its been this year is people moaning about the bands that are playing boohoo, you took the risk when you bought the tickets early.
anyway these are 3 genuinly good bands that deserve respect, now i dont neccessarily like Biffy but i respect them as a band that other people might like, dont bottle anybody as that ruins it for the ppl who like them

FFS IF YOU DONT LIKE A BAND YOU DONT HAVE TO SEE THEM!!!!!!

Not enough variety

All these people saying there's already enough 'metal' bands on the bill - the only out and out metal bands on the bill are:

Judas Priest
Motorhead (more a rock act but what the hell)
In Flames
Disturbed
Children Of Bodom
Cavalera Conspiracy
Throwdown (these days anyway)
Black Dahlia Murder
Bleeding Through
Dillinger Escape Plan

Now forgive me if I missed any out but that's only a quarter of the line-up. There's a few other good acts - Kiss, Apocalyptica to name a couple - but I think people are missing the point. Kerrang aren't responsible for booking the bands but they give an incredible amount of coverage to bands like Madina Lake, Elliot Minor, Lostprophets et al, who a hell of a lot of people don't even want on the line-up but the organisers ignore them - who can blame them when Kerrang keeps pushing them to the fore, in the pursuit of money and not respectability.

The Euro festivals far outshine Download, Leeds/Reading will probably have a harder hitting line-up (which is saying something), and Bloodstock is fast becoming what Download should have been.

We've been promised 'metal' but they keep putting it back, and until they start announcing some real big hitters such as Ministry, Testament, Meshuggah, or even some high quality rock acts such as The Wildhearts or Airbourne, anyone to at least win back some kudos among the rock and metal community.

I agree, Download isn't a metal festival - it never was. But as a ticket holder I feel shortchanged. I have never in the 4-5 years I've attended Download been so worried about the state of the line-up. This time last year they'd announced Dream Theater AND Megadeth AND Stone Sour all at once! This year we get Biffy Clyro, Madina Lake and Fightstar. What a climbdown.

The next announcement had better be stellar. If Ministry do not play this festival then Live Nation will have made an absolutely criminal mistake given that the band are retiring. They're only available for one day according to their touring schedule, and failure to do will be a failure for Download as a whole. They deserve a big send-off, a big crowd for their illustrious career. Madina Lake have had one album yet will probably get Main Stage or high-up Second Stage billing.

People on here need to wake up and start scratching the surface. If Madina Lake playing Download is what you need to persuade you to get a ticket for this festival then you need to reexamine your reasons for actually wanting to go to this festival, especially when they tour so bloody regularly. I don't get out to tours that often any more - I have a house to run, some people here might have licence to be more care free - and as such I can't make Ministry's farewell tour. If they don't play Download I will miss out forever.

Live Nation, the ball is well and truly in your court now. Either way, these latest announcements are bad business for the festival.

Well for £85, you can see Nightwish, Opeth, At The Gates, Dimmu Borgir, Evile, Overkill, Kataklysm, Iced Earth, Alestorm, Helloween and many more.

For less £160 you can go see Die Toten Hosen, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Airbourne, Bad Religion, Black Stone Cherry, Dimmu Borgir, Cavalera Conspiracy, Eagles Of Death Metal, Filter, High On Fire, HIM, In Flames, Masters Of Reality, Motorhead, Nightwish, Opeth, QOTSA, Serj Tankian, The Hellacopters, The Offspring, Turisas and many more. Suddenly Download looks very pale in comparison.

Oh I'm sorry, have some people here never heard of Bad Religion? High On Fire? Masters Of Reality? Filter? Didn't think so.

At least Ace Frehley has self-confirmed - a slight improvement on a bad week for Donington!

i reallyd ont get why people give fightstar such a hard time, its all because of them being blinded by the "busted" thing, if you actually took time to listen to them, youd discover a fucking brilliant band. 2 albums into their career and they completely piss all over most of teh bands already announced TO BE HONEST. kiss? rofl. offspring, a fucking joke.

the only bands that are worth seeing are fightstar and disturbed and lostprophets. rest of it seems a load of wank.
