The Burning Question 21/02/2008

This week's Burning Question:

Avenged Sevenfold, Within Temptation and Lauren Harris will be supporting Iron Maiden at Twickenham in July. Who else would you like to see on the bill and why?

Post your comments below and you could appear in next week's Kerrang! magazine.

Please remember to include a link to your MySpace profile so that, if we use your response, we can print a picture of you.

Get Caliban!
Amazing band who really deserve the place under Maiden, even though I don't really like Maiden that much, all their songs sound the same. Or at least start the same :) But they are a massive influence on metal, so woo Maiden!

KIDS IN GLASS HOUSE because they are pretty much the most awesome band around and appearing on the Lily Allen show DONT do them justice!

OR

NEW FOUND GLORY because they deserve to support someone better than Paramore. If they're gonna support someone make it someone good. Nuff said!

The show would be without a doubt one of THE greatest shows of 2008 possibly even the 21st century, yet i think the best thing you could do to a show like this is add some new music, put some new kids on the scene, yet if it's not new bands you want on the bill, then i truly think Bullet For My Valentine or Korn would totally top the "rock thermometer" to "XTREME FUCKING HEAT!"

who would i like to see alng side, within temptation, avenged sevenfold, and iron maiden? ...i think people are thinking too small, since maiden are pretty much gods, anyone would come under consideration, to me fightstar coheed and cambria and Dragonforce are way too small, i think the likes of KoRn, megadeth, or motorhead should be considered or even some up and coming legends like bullet for my valentine or airbourne might get the job done in the opening spot.

Maiden Support

The above posts are proof that Kerrang readers really don't get Iron Maiden at all. Fightstar? Seriously?

Avenged Sevenfold are gonna get bottled just like Trivium were on the last tour (Matt Heafy annoying everyone by pronouncing it I-Ron Maiden) and Funeral For A Friend were on the tour before that. The last decent support Maiden had in this country was Rob Halford.

Maiden fans are notoriously impatient. Most would gladly do away with Maiden support altogether. It takes a band with respect akin to Maiden's in the metal community to truly win over the hearts of a Maiden crowd. A few years ago in the USA they were supported by Motorhead and Dio. Hey presto, often voted best Maiden support in recent times.

Why is it so unreasonable for Maiden fans to ask more of their favourite band? Is it so unreasonable for us to ask Rod Smallwood to get some bands who will actually give Maiden a run for their money. The aforementioned Motorhead for example. Or Saxon, who are currently enjoying a resurgance of popularity in the metal comunity of late. Or UFO, Steve Harris' primary influence. Or Heaven and Hell. Or some of the legendary Scandanavian metal bands such as Tarot or more recently Turisas. Or maybe some American Symphonic Metal such as Symphony X. Want to make it interesting - get Wolfsband or Paul Di'Anno.

As far as new bands go, they could do worse than Airbourne, but why not get a British equivalent? It is a British festival after all. Voodoo 6 would put on a great show. McQueen, as well as producing great ass-kicking rock, would probably appeal to the young male adolescents that seem to frequent Maiden gigs.

Within Temptation will be interesting because aesthetically and aurally they appear very different to Maiden, but their scale and imagination is a definate rival. And although Lauren Harris may seem predictable (she is Steve's daughter), I've seen her many times and dammit that girl can sing and her band are fantastic.

I think Maiden should lighten up the proceedings a little bit, fuck the shit support they have right now out the window, and in it's stead place The Ergs! The Queers! And....The Mr. T Experience! I would go to that! Although I'd end up leaving before Maiden came on, haha.

To Zowie : The Misfits haven't existed since the 80s. Danzig MADE the Misfits, what we have now is a bastardised nothing of a band who, in all honesty, are a pile of old wank,

I think Iced Earth should be there. They kinda remind me of iron maiden and not many people know them, plus they're awesome. Apart from that they should leave it, they already have an amazing line up.

Avenged Sevenfold

okay- so somebody wrote into the magazine this week, explaining how crap and corporate that avenged sevenfold are, and that they don't care for their fans. well- they obviously weren't at the glasgow show (30th Jan)! a girl in the crowd had fallen during one of their songs, and m.shadows stopped the whole show, got paramedics, and made sure she was okay, before they continued the set- then the band stayed outside for about half an hour afterwards to meet us! they were the nicest bunch of guys i've ever met, and the show was great! honestly amazing night. how that person can totally diss them, i'll never know- but maybe they should stfu and stop saying shit, if they don't know how nice they are. :-)

Avenged Poserfold?

Ok, what the hell is with A7X supporting Maiden this summer. I paid £50 for my ticket and that is worth it alone for Maiden but they could have given us decent support. While A7X have their fair share of decent, headbangeriffic riffs their singer has the most irritating voice since Joe Pasquali and they seem to spend a little to much time worrying about make up. Now I am not here to rant on about this travesty of a support act, I am here to suggest a decent support. Lamb of God perhaps? I mean they are one band that know how to a get a crowd pumped up and I have never got to see them. If we can't have LOG then can we at least have something cheesy and classic like Motley Crue?

Firstly i have to say i love every one of those bands but AX7, Within Temptation and Lauren Harris aren't Iron Maidens music ATALL!!! They need someone who can level their music, a classic band such as Guns and Roses. They're not my favourite band but they would look good against Maiden =]

Cellos, anyone?

I reckon Apocalyptica would be brilliant to add to the bill, I saw them at the Birmingham Academy last year and I thought they were amazing. Okay, they might be more of a Metallica-loving band, but even with their cellos they are far more metal that Avenged Sevenfold. Don't get me wrong, the band are alright, but the question is, are they worthy of supporting the behemoth that is Maiden? I think not, and I know I'm not the the only one. Apocalyptica all the way!

I can't see them only doing one UK gig and they wouldn't sell out a stadium on their own, would need another big band with them. Couldn't see Gene wanting to support a band though unless it's classed as a "joint headlining".

Blatantly Boyzone, for pure comical value of being totally owned by all the Maiden fans. And for the look on the Boyzone guys' faces when Mr Dickinson accidentally sends Eddie out to eat them... Mental (:
Otherwise, Misfits, because they're aesthetically a lot like Maiden. But very different.

personally either annihilator, manowar or iced earth would be awesome.

annihilator because a major stadium show in the uk would give them pretty big exposure, which they deserve as a trully underrated band (just listen to never, neverland), manowar because they just never come over here nowdays and it would be awesome to see them and iced earth as they are one of the top american metal bands out there and would be a good platform to show matt barlow is back and he means business

RE: Maiden support.

Me again. Had to post again due to the utter shite being posted on here.

MCR? You gotta be joking, right? This is metal. METAL! Not emo-pop. If MCR supported Maiden, the bottling we gave them at Download would pale in comparison to what we'd give them at a Maiden gig. MCR are the worst thing to happen to the music industry since.....well.....I can't really think of anything worse.

There have been some good suggestions though. Iced Earth would be cool. So would Manowar. How about Hammerfall? Anthrax and Megadeth would kick ass but they would be unlikely. Maiden fans have been waiting for a Priest/Maiden co-headlining tour all our lives, but the two bands apparantly aren't really on good terms. I don't think you'd get Motley Crue either, if the rumours I hear about an 'incident' between Nikki Sixx and Bruce Dickenson's first wife are true.

The idea of KISS supporting is not as far fetched as it sounds. If you know your Maiden history (and if you don't, then you shouldn't be allowed to post here) then you will know that Maiden is the only band - EVER - that KISS has ever supported. I actually believe the reason KISS aren't as huge in Britain as they are everywhere else is because we have Iron Maiden. Maiden/KISS would be fucking awesome though......

Personally, I think that the line-up so far is pretty good and there isn't really much point adding another band or else it would just clutter up the show...

However, if anyone else should play with Maiden, it should be something like Stone Sour, BFMV, or even Zico Chain. Enough with fucking Machine Head and MCR; there's already too much of them around, for goodness sake!!

I think!!

I think it should be MCR
Blates because it would piss off all teh 'Metal heads' by there being more MCR fans there than Iron Maiden fans.
Also to prove that MCR ARE NOT FUCKIGN EMO!
I'm a massive die ahrd MCR fan and I'm also a huge fan of other types of music, like one of my fave badns are Cannibal Corpse.
Maybe it would upen up their annoyingly norrow minds and make them not care about what their fellow 'metal heads' think.

sorry to say this love, but yeah, MCR are emo, they are shit and honestly, bands like children of bodom, In flames, Machine head and bands like that should support Iron Maiden
Muse would be insane with Iron maiden because they give a kick ass show and although i am not the biggest muse fan ever you can't deny that their shows suck.
Maybe some new talent like Zico Chain or Evile should support because they are both really talented bands with tonnes of potential and they can go far, way further than some of the bands around today
So MCR can get screwed if they are going to support Iron Maiden.

Burning Question...

I think My Chemical Romance should also support Iron Maiden. Simply to the fact as they ROCK! Just as much as Iron Maiden! Even though some may disagree... MCR are a great band and live! they are just amazing!

If not them or also it should be Velvet Revolver as im sure SLASH could get the party started!

The Dillinger Escape Plan, because they're awesome and would add a bit of variety, and more people need to hear their music.

30 Seconds To Mars because they totally rock and are the best band. I personally think that. Also because its been my lifelong dream to see 30 seconds to mars, avenged sevenfold, Within Temptation, Lauren Harris and Iron Maiden.

My favourite band, but how people manage to drag them into dicussions on bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden I will never know...

Anyone who has said: "omg gerard way!!!!!111" EVER in their lives should be destroyed, in my view.

Split

I think that they should get some really good bands that have split up to go because that would make any concert good (unless the band were crap)! But if that wasn't possible, then My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, or Paramore; they have been having some trouble lately so if they just have a fucking good time on stage then they might forget their problems for that day.

I think Hearts Under Fire should surport them as their one of the best all girl bands around, their sound is like no other all girl band around, they have made a whole new sound that no one else has! I love this band as it gives girls the confidence to know that they can be in a band and still rock no matter what!!

Avenged Sevenfold is good enough..

to play with Maiden. They've played with Metallica and GandR so its only right if they play with Maiden now. They are a great group of amazingly talented young musicians who don't take things like this for granted. Plus they put on one hell of a live show. :]
