Soulfly mainman slams Killswitch

Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy mainman Max Cavalera slammed his Roadrunner labelmates Killswitch Engage in a recent Swedish interview.

"I went to see Killswitch Engage in the States and it was the gayest show I've ever seen," says the singer. "I was like, 'I'm not part of this scene, it's fucking gay'. The attitude was so ridiculous. It was completely disappointing and gay."

Oh my god what an utter moron! I had the utmost respect for Max back in the Sepultura days, but hearing a respected metal frontman using "gay" as a derogitory term is irresponsible and dissapointing. In an age where we are trying to stamp out homophobia, this is a severe let down It's perfectly ok not to like a band but calling them "gay" like its an insult has substantially lowered my oppinion of Max.

The problem is that Max is a prominent figure in the kind of music we listen to. The practice of using the term gay as an insult is, as you've quite rightly said, a practice usually reserved for the schoolyard. Max should have grown out of this long ago, and the fact that he clearly hasn't sends out completely the wrong message. Moron or not, anyone can see that, wouldn't you agree?

For a start - does anyone care? People "slag" each-other off all the time - its natural. Why should this guy have to keep his mouth shut? Why should one person have to hide their opinion of the band? I don't listen to either band - so I am not taking sides...but I think its a) Pathetic that this is "news" b) Being blown out of proportion and finally c) Just funny!

Killswich are tolerable, theyre not bad but not exactly anything special but have to agree with the comment above, metal is a dirty offensive genre (and thats the way it should be) so if your gettin offended by the word 'gay' u really need to take a long hard look at yourselves n ask yourselves if this is the music u wanna be associated with.. Believe it or not it actually really winds me up when things get too PC. for example, I heard recently that there are pressure groups attempting to ban the use of the phrase "mum and dad" in schools because it discriminates against same sex parents, which I think is ridiculously over-sensitive. Metal is a genre that strives for common sense and straight talking, which is why I take pride in being part of the scene. I just felt that Max crossed the line by using gay as an insult

I knew about this whole story weeks ago before Kerrang finally picked up on it, and they seem to have cut bits such as 'they were acting like U2' and stuff, which I'm sure if you bother to read the whole statement might give you a better idea of Max's rant than anything you'll ever see on this website.

True, Max shouldn't have said it in such a way but I don't think its a rant against homosexual people or anything like that but the over-reaction on here is nothing short of what I expected. Most people who read Kerrang these days aren't into metal as it is, and some of the reaction on here seems to be of an anti-metal stance. GET A GRIP!

Nothing against KsE, they're alright but they're nothing that special as such. Some people here need to look at this story a little bit deeper, and then take a good look in the mirror at yourselves, and you'll realise just how hypocritical a lot of you are.

i dont think by calling the scene gay he is refering to just KSE, and i dont think he meant to offend anyone. put it simply he went to see a metal band was dissapoint in the direction the scene is taking. He (max) should have known he would have not been going to see the same heavy/angry as fuck KSE were 5 years ago. netherless he was dissapointed and said that and just left it at that.

If anyone is saying that Soulfly are homo then they're just as bad as Max in my book. I don't think this is about which band is better though. Personally I loved the first Soulfly album, but I feel they've gone downhill from there(but still nowhere near as dull as Sepultura have been since Max left). I also like KSE, but they're nowhere near being my favourite band. Call me old school, but you can't beat a bit of Chaos A.D or Roots!
