Official: MCR O2 dates are off

Following internet speculation yesterday when My Chemical Romance posted information about a proposed European tour on their official website, K! can confirm that it was in fact merely a rumour.

The proposed dates, which included four nights at London's O2 Arena, have now been removed from the band's website and their official MySpace page.

Following a deluge of e-mails and comments from concerned K! readers who phoned up to buy tickets only to be told by the venue that they knew nothing about the series of gigs, K! dot com contacted the band’s booking agent for clarification.

"It’s just a rumour,” he told us. “Fuck knows how they managed to get on their official website.”

So it looks like British fans will have to wait a little longer to see their heroes back in action.

Someone from the site should have contacted a spokesperson for the band BEFORE posting news like that. Plain and simple. Sites can easily be hacked and tampered with. Hi, I still have on my phone a video I recorded at the MCR gig on 11th November in Newcastle, where Gerard announced there would be no more UK tours for the next two years.

Obvs they're allowed to change their minds on this decision but to be honest why bother making the statement if you're likely to change your mind?

The next two years will seriously go slow with no more gigs!

I only saw the tour dates on www.wikipedia.com, I wanted to see if it was true, so I looked on the MCR official website and there MySpace, and NITHER of them were posted on there, I I didnt know if it was true or not! It was confusing.

The arena shows are horrible anyway. Unreal fans create a horrible atmosphere, and to be honest even security is better at academy gigs.

I concur. I actually chose not to go to their last O2 gig as it's a massive 30,000 seater arena, which just wouldn't have compared to their Brixton Academy gig. (and also having seen them at Wembley Arena and Stadium).

Surprised they were talking of a tour as they are supposed to be on a long break but who knows? Frank was talking about wanting to do Reading Festival so maybe they will play again in the summer.

Anyway, enough of this rant...i doubt MCR could sell out O2 for 4 nights anyway...as far as them being shit live...i saw them at T in the Park last summer, and they were actually really good, and i dont even like them.

I actually owed my friend Corina this SO much, 'cause I promised I'd take her to a gig for my birthday, as she's never been to one before, and they're our favourite band.

These rumours are never ending! It's fucking ridiculous.
When I last saw them in Sheffield, I didn't think they were up to scratch. They could have played better; admittedly there were two band members missing, and Mikey and Ray did try to liven it up by bouncing all over the place, Gerard pissed me off.
I've never been bored at a concert; but after Mindless Self Indulgence went off I was stood there trying not to yawn.

So I think it's good that there are no more gigs for two years. Give them a break, and hope to the heavens that they pull themselves together as a live act. I'm a fan, just a disappointed fan and I'm glad they're not doing any more gigs because they need a fucking break.

Omg! This is the most annoyest thing thats ever happened about a MCR tour! I saw MCR live on the 15th November at the O2 arena! And as soon as I found out they were going there again from a text message from my friend, I ran straight to the computer to book tickets! I really think MCR deserve a break, because they have worked hard! and yes I am a huge MCR fan (obviously) and think there the best band alive! I am really pissed off about this MCR ticket thing like every other MCR fan on here. But I guess thats it and we have to deal with it.

I hope after the 2 years break that MCR really had a good break and hopefully we can see them again in 2 years. :]

Yes, they have a lot of younger fans who probably are following a trend. The said fans also probably don't fully understand the concept of MCR's music let alone what they have achieved through the years.

If you don't like them, then why even bother going on about it? Its not going to change other people's views when they already have made a decision as to whether they love or hate the band. There are a number of bands I greatly dislike, but I've never once commented on them negatively.
Because a mature person doesn't get so wound up about these things. Especially when it doesn't make a difference to them in the first place.
For a man of your age, its a shame you feel the need to hit out at something clearly looked up to by the younger generation.

I was pissed off to hear these dates had been set in the first place. MCR are always on tour and playing the same venues at the same time of year - each time getting more pretentious and making kids believe they've saved their lives. I am a fan of the band but seeing the play nowadays along with having to endure Gerard Way's preachings is fucking cringeworthy! So good to hear these dates aren't happening - take a fucking break guys!!

MCR March Tour Dates just a rumour

Why the hell are so many people blaming Kerrang for getting the info re MCR's tour dates incorrect?

I checked MCR's official myspace page, and yep, sure enough they were there in black and white; 18th - 21st March 08 at 02 Arena, London.

Here's the thing; if all MCR fans would have logged onto myspace themselves, we would have all gone mental and desperately tried to get tickets. Kerrang have done exactly that, but also checked on MCR's OFFICIAL homepage, so what could they do? I'm sure MCR themselves are mortified too. I'm sure they realise what a blow this is to their many, many fans.

I imagine they are just as pissed off as all MCR fans, but at least they had the balls to look into this in more depth. We're all human and we all make mistakes, so come on guys, give Kerrang a break!

In reply to "andymark" and "well who the fuck likes MCR anyway"; grow up and get a life! I agree with Titch, there's a lot of bands that I don't like a great deal, but I have the maturity and sense not to post pathetic comments on what is actually a very interesting forum! I've seen My Chemical Romance three times, the first time they were amazing at the Manchester Apollo (in 2005) played a good selection of songs from TCFSR and I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love (I put that incase the 13 year olds are unaware of this mysterious album :P), second time I saw them after the release of TBP in Liverpool Uni, and they were disgraceful, Gerard Way was so up his own arse and I left after about seven songs, the last time was in the MEN and the show was good, but the atmosphere was terrible, loads of little kids! And the fact they forgot they actually had a first album, they completely neglected to play any of it.

I honestly wouldn't go and see them again, well I would if it was free :)

Kerrang's gone a bit too emo now, but it does have to sell itself after all.

i know exactly what you mean, i went to see MCR on the 11th of November and me and my mate were surrounded by little kids it was quite annoying actually and everytime a song that either wasn't a single or was off Bullets and Revenge came on they just hummed and swayed but yeah the MCR fan base has got completely out of control and hopefully by time they come back the 11 and 12 year olds will have forgotten about them =]

I've seen 'em twice now so I think I can wait. It'll still be awesome when they're back on tour. They should probably bring some new stuff out first and do a themed tour like they did with Revenge, Black Parade, etc :)

To be honest, i am quite happy that MCR are going on a two year break. Sure, i was jumping around the room when i heard about these rumoured tour dates, but im glad they arent true now. Mcr are becoming to big headed and hopfeully this long break will give them the time to sort themselves out.
I miss the old Mcr, around three cheers time. COME BACK IN TWO YEARS, or you guys will only be left with your teenie bopper fans, seriously, nobody respects stuckup people.

I totally agree with you. I'm glad they've grown up in their musical ability, it shows that they -as a band - can move on and accomplish more.

I also agree with the people who said about the fact all the little kids are at shows. I went to O2 arena and behind me was a kid of about seven who only knew the words to Famous Last Words. It irritates me when these people turn up and shows and don't know any lyrics to Bullets or Revenge. What's the point in all that?
Sorry I dont mean to rant but it irritated me. Fans who actually KNEW MCR's lyrics could be jumping around and seeing their favourite band, instead some seven year old kid has taken up the seat to hear one fucking song!

My Chemical Romance used to be a hell of alot better, to be frank.
whether or not you agree, i don't care. but they did used to be better in my opinion.
but when they brought out The Black Parade they did change, some people think for the better but i liked their older stuff way better.
their music may still be 'rock' but it' s too different for many peoples liking.
i don't know if you notcied, but most of the people who slag off MCR did used to be fans.
they sold out to make more money, and don't say they haven't sold out. we all know they have.

i get that loads of people are going to like them more now, but i also understand that alot of people aren't.
you should at least accept peoples opinions and stop trying to change them.

I'm 17 ^^ as I said up there to the nob who was insulting 13 year old fans ^^ and I've loved MCR ever since Bullets came out. I've stood by MCR no matter how they've changed music wise or fashion wise whatever. But I can't help but say that I loathe every single asswipe that turned their backs on them because of TBP.

GET SOME OPEN-MINDEDNESS.

They say that "MCR are have gone soft" or whatever and suddenly they're the shittest band in the world! However, if they released another album like Revenge you'd all come crawling back out of the woodwork saying that you've always loved MCR.

WTF? I didnt even know there was a proposed MCR europe tour! And God knows I'm a BIG fan.
I've waited since March 25th after seeing them at the CIA, so surely a little longer wouldnt hurt? WRONG!

I was at the Sheffield gig, and like everyone else, we know they're not coming back for two years etc.

But to be honest, does anyone actually care anymore? I'll admit, shamefully, I used to be a bit of a serial fan-girl. Recently I realised for God's sake, they're just a band. I liked them because their music was good and they had a good reason to do it.
But more recently Gerard Way just became brutally violent and constantly curses. If he wants to be putting out a good message to kids, why's he telling them they're 'motherfuckers who don't know shit'?

Besides, their musics gone down the drain and they're losing their touch.

This Is NOT The Bands Fault

They were hacked, plain and simple. That is NOT their fault, they do not run their websites, stop placing blame on them, and instead blame the "news sources" they you go to and rely on to put up dependable news with credible and legit sources besides the internet. Webpages, as you can see here, can easily be hacked and manipulated. It is not the band who dropped the ball here, only incompetent announcements and lack of common sense. Dates of the size and capacity? I mean really, it doesn't take a genius to pick up a phone and call a representative, spokesperson or EASILY the label to get confirmation of something like that before posting it on your site as news. Maybe if you weren't so worried about being the first to post the dates, you would have used your brain and not have relied on internet RUMOR as a credible source of information.

Woah. I see MCR is a heated topic.
Some people love MCR, others hate them, I understand that.
But, please, whatever you're opinion, please be respectful to others who do not share the same view.

As for 13 year olds liking MCR, so what? I met a 13 year old at the 02 in November, and she's one of the loveliest people I've ever met, and a TRUE My Chem fan.

Also at that same show, I saw adults in there 30s in MCR tops, teenagers of all ages and sexes, a woman who must have been at least 50 decked up in a drummergirl outfit...you name it, I saw it. And I was surrounded by fans who sung every single word of every single song. So, to say it is only 13 year old girls who like MCR is untrue.

Also, the band themselves have changed - they've matured, they've gotten older, got an even more postive outlook on life...
Let's compare Gerard at the time of 'Revenge' to Gerard at the time of 'TBP'.
Gerard was an alcoholic. He did drugs. He was suicidal. He admitted that he went to Japan on tour, and didn't expect to come back.
Now?
He's been 3 years clean and sober. He is even more positive that before and even more dedicated to helping the fans. He's gotten married. He has said how much he loves life at the moment.
So, I'm sorry to all the people who don't like the 'new' Gerard. But I want my hero to live a long and healthy life, so I'm not complaining.

Now, back to the ACTUAL topic [I apologise for going off on a tangent].
I, personally, am gutted that I am not going to be able to see MCR again, having gotten my hopes up after seeing the tourdates posted on the OFFICAL WEBSITE [which, one would think, would be the most official place for MCR news], however I do think it will benefit the band to take a break as they have being touring pretty much solidly for the past 6 years. They'll come back with even more energy and bring a brand new album with them which, if they're new song they've been performing is anything to go by, will be amazing.

Actually i used to like fall out boy but then i saw how shitty and crap they where live but i bought all of muse's albums and bought all their live dvd's well 2 of them and saw how brilliant and prfessional they where i saw them in oxygen too and thought they where fantastic.

How could you buy this Kerrang?

Eventhough i adore you Kerrang!, once again you're letting your journalism of this band decline!

MCR fans KNOW (or at least ones who keep on top of news) that MCR are taking a break after the tour ends this year and that since the second UK tour of 2007 ended in November that it's going to be AT LEAST a year before they begin touring again, after they've realised the fourth album.

The fact that fans and a publication like this would believe a rumour of the sort only shows that more research is needed and only encourages hackers to do this again!

How do MCR help you get through the 'bad times'? What possible 'bad times' could you have and if they where truly bad I doubt MCR could help!

Are you starving? Do you have to walk miles everyday just to find water? Are you living in a war torn country?

Most of you have nothing more to worry about than getting your homework in on time. I know there ARE people with genuine problems who are into MCR and if you are one of them - no offence.

BUT, the majority of you just need to get a fucking grip!

Ha ha, this forum has justified my opinion that most MCR fans are nothing but winey children that take themselves faaaar too seriously! ( just like MCR themselves) How easy is it to wind up a MCR fan, they bite everytime, like !!!
I suppose MCR are an ok(ish) band, but its the gimmick you all buy into, thats why they are so big, thats why you are all obsessed, thats why you can't stop going on about them, and thats why you take it so personally when they are insulted.
You don't even know it but you have all been brainwashed my the music industry, your no different than any take that or backstreet boy fans. Listen...Your not different, your not emo and 90% have no REAL problems. All you are looking for is identity and security, MCR provide you that (for now) soon you will grow up, find ur own identity and realise that only your action can change your situation, not a pop band.
And there are far better teachers in this world. Do you know how Gerard Way dealt with his ''problems''? Try illegal narcotics, presciption drug abuse and alcohism....great role model there kids!

Ha u got some really valid points there,about swearing and their videos,but however im 38 and really enjoy the music, especially their earlier music,regardless of what u say about G.W being bad influence,if you look to the fact he came through that (with the aid of counseling) and still went on to become successful singer/songwriter ,whom overcame his addictions whom is a positive role model, by doing that,end of day we are human. They tour regardless, to please their >fans>they have given there lives to please the fans.(i don't believe mcr thought of ages there music would appeal to whilst writing their songs)
