i must admit that Half a Minute From a Planet is clever, however slaggin off 30 just cos they r sober is a really stoopid example to set for your fans!!! also 30 r awesome and it has nothing to do with jared being an actor becos he is more famous in the uk for his music then his movies(most of which r gd too) :)

SHAME ON YOU KERRANG! when are you going to start putting real metal acts in the mag! i only see the likes the fob mcr and ffaf on the big news storys yet the likes of down the haunted and classics like sabbath madien and priest only get small news bits nw i understand that u have to appeal to the other readers but com on when was the last time you saw a decent stright up metal band on the cover ( part from machine head) kerrang please put bands that mean somthing in ur mag more instead of just following the mainstream bullshit! please k! you used to rock and now the only thing you rock is assholes its so sad to see you go down hill like this

Good issue!

I really don't like Madina Lake but I gotta say the the guy has good taste in music. 'Knife Party' by Deftones, 'Hits From the Bong' by Cypress Hill, 'New Noise' by Refused, 'Hurt' by Nine Inch Nails, 'Redemption Song' by Bob Marley. Very nice!

Could someone give me a quick answer on the black crusade gig review.. am not in UK at present and havent been able to get magazine, should i be telling my people back home to get one before it sells out...

id just like ot say how much i love elliot minor. they play their own music, write their own songs and live, they sound exactly the same, if not better, than on CD or w/e. they r 1 of the few bands left who r true to themselves. so i agree with alex when he says it was an unfair statement in their review a couple of weeks ago. they are my favourite band i and i hate to see them dissed. everyone shoudl love elliot mino!

Lyn=Z poster just didn't do it for me this week. Sorry guys. And the sticker with just Hayley Williams.. nuh uh... it really bugs me when you just feature the front man/woman.

And don't get me started on that terrible feature with the supposed apology from Elliot Minor. They had no reason to apologise. Ryan had a tantrum coz people didn't like what he'd written, and basically wrote another piece of crap to justify himself. RUBBISH.

In future please send Rae to all reviews.

Kerrang,
Have to admit, I am becoming more and more disillusioned with your 'coverage' of Mindless Self Indulgence... Or is that Lyn-Z and her band? Or is that Mrs Gerard Way and those people that just happen to be on tour with her?

WHY only include a poster of her (very conveniently on the back of a poster of Gerard himself) and not the whole band?...

As a devoted MSI fan of over two years, I find it pathetic that you only take notice of them when one of their members marries someone famous. I'm not one of these people who discriminates musicians based on the instrument they play, but it is blindingly obvious that you only included that poster because she's now the most recognisable member, let's face it, you don't usually print posters of bassists (apart from maybe that douchebag Pete Wentz).

If you were a magazine that were truly interested in the music being produced, you would include a poster of the entire band, not just what you see as their selling point, however, if you wanted to become a gossip magazine, that's fine.

I look forward to the poster of Wentz's beau Ashlee Simpson next week.

Well, I bought it for the Black Crusade review... and I was disappointed with that too.

And who are you to question what I do and don't do? In my opinion, this was yet another charts orientated issue of Kerrang. It's drifted from it's roots and as an ex avid reader, I'm sincerely disappointed and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.

Its amazing that i went to see mcr support tbs after tbs had released where you want to be. They are my 2 favourite bands and always will be. BUT when mcr released the black parade its so irritating and sickening to see the number of mcr 'fans' crawling out of the woodwork. So few real fans left. Learn kids. Problem?

Jared Leto should stick to acting. I think all 30stm songs sound the same. Very dull. Quinn is not stupid. He is a far more talented guitarist and song writer than jared leto.
The used are an interestng, mind blowing amazing band ( in my opinion the best band around just now) and they can sell records looking like greasy tramps all the time. They don't need a 'prince charming' in their band to please fans.

And another thing: I wish people woud stop comparing the used to mcr. Mcr are terrible. The used are a compleatly different ( and far better) band.

P.S. I loved the F4AF feature. They are my 2nd fav band.

Seriously you need a reality check if you think the used are good. They are rip-offs, 30STM are actually amazing, im listening to them right now, whereas the used is just a group of talentless twats. MCR i know are blaitently very hated but i love them, they are different and much better then the used as are 30STM

How are The Used rip-offs? Rip-offs of what, exactly? They're been around for longer than most of the crap that's around at the moment. They make music that's different and original. Ever listened to a song by them? I'm guessing not, seeing as you obv have no idea what you're talking about.

MCR are not different. They're exactly the same as every other emo band out there.

And 30STM.... are you actually listening to the music? Or are you too busy gazing intently into Jared Leto's eyes like every other 30STM fangirl out there? 30STM are not good music. They sound like a boygroup with a few guitars chucked in.

The used song "All that ive got" in the video it is just copying killswitch engage video.

Yeah so MCR do sing some Emo songs im not gonna deny that, and they have changed im not gonna deny that either. But they are good, end of.

I actually started listening to them when Jared Leto didnt look good at all, so dont tell me im just another gazing fan girl. 30STM actually sound amazing live which is more than i can say for loads of bands out there which sound shit live, so why dont you actually start listening to some good music.

Y'know, watching the videos and listening to music is a completely different thing. So what if The Used ripped off another person's video? 30STM ripped off a movie for their music video. BIG DEAL. It's about the music not about the freakin' videos.

And I'm not assuming. I have 30STM's album and I have "Three Cheers..." and "Black Parade". MCR used to be amazing, their music used to be awesome, then Black Parade came along and... well, ew, basically. 30STM on the other hand, doesn't even count as music. It's like something you'd play at a funeral. There are about 3 good songs on the album and the rest are like the dullest, slowest songs on the planet.

You're telling me to listen to good music but you're blatently just following the crowd with yuur music taste. Try looking at your own music taste then tell me again to start listening to good music.

And by the way. The Used are AMAZING live.

I've loved The Used for about 3 years now. So have many other people. And they don't have a weirdo cult following, they have actual fans. 30STM have been around for, what, 5 minutes, and they already have a cult following. Surely that shows you that The Used's fans are in it for the music not the latest trends?

Im only 13 i cant exactly be listening to music for 3 years, but ever since i was 9 i have been in love with Linkin Park and Evanescence and thats when they were minor and great.

So dont tell me i follow the trend and dont listen to supporting acts or new bands.

You say that 30STM have only been around for 5 minutes and they have fans and you only assume that because the lead singer is good looking, if so then you would say that about every band with a good looking member who got famous quickly, right?

I'm seeing Coheed&Cambria, Circa Survive, Fightstar, Madina Lake, The Blackout, 30STM, and Aiden, actually. 30STM are hardly the ones I'm looking forward to seeing the most.

I stopped mentioning that because you changed the topic. I notice you still haven't repeated to me that I should try listening to some good music. Realised you were wrong? Besides while the list of bands yoo named aren't mainstream they're hardly underground music are they? And I bet you've never been to any gigs by local bands. THAT's when yoo start to realise there's more out there than the latest trends.

Local bands normally put on shows at small venues like around where I live there are bars which have stages and special nights for local bands.

Okay so they're slightly mainstream but they aren't my favourite bands, I like them only a little bit more than I like 30STM. They're not as mainstream as 30STM or MCR anyway, I mean when you hear 30STM or MCR you instantly think of creepy fan girls, or the MCRmy [which is just weird], or the thousands of people that scream to Jared or Gerard that they want their babies. When you hear Aiden, Fightstar, Madina Lake, The Used... you think of fans. People who are in it for the music.

Well whatever. This topic started off as The Used > 30STM and even though I didn't start this discussion there's nothing in the world that would make me change my opinion on that. The Used are waaaay better than 30STM and I acc hate the way people compare them when they are so different.

Come on K! What the hell is up with your 'A brief history of...' feature? I'm talking about the fact you haven't even included the great genre of Industrial. Yet before, you've done one on EMO?! What!? I don't care if Jimmy Eat World gives the emo genre enough history to include it in your weekly feature. What about NIN? What about Skinny Puppy? Ministry? Rob/White Zombie? They've all had such an impact on music and musicians of this day, yet not a single mention. It irritated me so much. I hope this is soon fixed. i'm loving this weeks issue but what the hell is with Lyn-z from MSI having a "icon"poster just coz she married gerard way, (and is mostly hated by jelous mcr fans thinking they actually have a chance with gerard themselves) it doesn't make her an "icon"???!!!

Everyone has the right to listen to whatever the hell music they like. Just because their favourite band is one of the more mainstream bands, it doesn't mean that they don't like smaller bands as well. For example half the bands I listen to hardly anybody has even heard of.

I agree with you that MCR and 30STM fans are way over the top and freakish and half of them only like those bands because they're in the public eye so much and because people are in love with the singers. But come on-- The Used? Fans of The Used aren't as weird and fangirly as MCR and 30STM fans and I resent The Used being put in the same category as 30STM and MCR because their music is totally different.

LP havent tried to be emo in any way, they've developed their sound because another "nu-metal" album would be boring, good on them I say. Their songs are on all the time as they are a very popular band throughout the world and they released a new album 6 months ago. Why the hell should he have to apologise, he did absolutely nothing wrong. The whole point of any one review is that is someone's OPINION and clearly his opinion of the gig and, indeed, of the band was low. Why should he have to apologise for his opinions. It wasn't like he said anything offensive either. What loads of people seem to have skipped over here is the fact that he never stated that he believed that Elliot Minor didn't write their own songs, he merely said that it was a consideration that sprung to mind; it was nothing more than that.

As for the other comment people seem to have picked up on, about the female audience, again people seem to have neglected the fact that he said that the audience was PREDOMINANTLY female. The point is he wasn't in any way saying that girls only like pop, he was merely making a point that an audience that is predominantly of one sex is generally an indication of the type of music that the band play. You might expect a predominantly male audience, for instance, at a prog band like Porcupine Tree, or a grindcore act like Napalm Death. Generally, more mainstream rock and metal attract a fairly even split audience so Ryan's point was that the fact that so few guys had turned up yet so many girls suggested that Elliot Minor did not have much appeal as a mainstream rock band since they attracted the sort of split expected for the audience of a pop band.

Basically, nothing of what Ryan Bird said was slanderous or offensive. On the other hand, Alex Davies' comments were untrue and confrontationary while some of the comments posted by Elliot Minor fans were basically death threats, enough to get you sent to prison. So in actual fact, I think it's time that all the angry Elliot Minor fans actually considered the other side of the argument and stopped committing far worse offences in their comments than he even came close to in the review.

okay so i read the interview with alex davies from elliot minor the other day. WTF??? what were you doing? (yes i am talking to you ryan bird) you were just making the poor guy apologise over and over again for defending himself against some stupid and thoughtless comments you wrote about his band but i don't see you writing better music. If you go down the page and just read the questions it is clear that you're just bringing him down and trying to make him feel bad about what he said when you were the one that made him say it. I had to re-read it to check i wasn't just going mental. But no, i was right. Throughout the whole interview, you don't apologise for saying what you said about his band at all! Not even once. Elliot Minor vs Ryan Bird

Now for a balance in the argument. What Elliot Minor put on they're page encouraged fans to adopt an anger against Ryan Bird. What Ryan Bird did was a FUCKING REVIEW YOU WHINGING BASTARDS!

If he had said the same thing about a band you didn't like, you wouldn't have given a toss, lets be honest. And as Ryan Bird pointed out: in such a time where happy slapping and violence is increasing, what the singer said was ot of line and could've been seen as engouraging it.

Journalists like Bird are paid to give honest reviews, and if it wasn't honest (from a neutral p.o.v), then he wouldn't be writing for Kerrang! would he?

So I think Elliot Minor should grow some balls and get out of their private school, shitty attitude. Every band gets criticism, some worse than what EM had!

The Used,30stm, mcr

I would just like to say that The Used are much better musicians than either mcr or 30stm, and they haven't changed their act, like those bands, and they don't pretend that they are some kind of shitty cult. The Used also don't need a pretty boy/woman frontamn in order to sell records.

elliot minor are hard working qand friendly guys. fair enough people are entitled to their opinions and there are going to be people who dont like them for whatever reson. Yes reviews are based on opinons but opinions are based on facts. So ryan bird get your facts right before you go and publish insulting shit. these guys are classically trained and have been making music since like forever, so dont say they are manufactured and dont play or write their their own music, the remark about the female fans gave a slightly, ever so slighly sexist impression,so if any one should appologise it should be ryan turd. karrang should make their mind up as to whether they like elliot minor or not, on minute, they quoted EM as "the band of 2007" ( which i agree they weren't but...)and the next they are printing shit like this. one girl wrote in to kerrang saying ryan bird was a legend and made "that elliot minor guy" sound like a school boy, she obviously hasn't heard elliot minor to know that they are an awesome band, so maybe before, these people "voice their opinion" they should listen to get the right one!!!!!!! god im ranting on now, so im going ...
