The Burning Question!

Chatting to Kerrang! last week, My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way revealed that if he ever got sick - he would hope the band would carry on touring without him.

Gerard told Kerrang!, that in the event of this happening, he would "trust Adam [Lazzara] from Taking Back Sunday to fill in."

"He did it once before at a show that I had to cancel when my voice blew out," he revealed. "Adam sung 'Not OK…' at a radio station, and it was the nicest thing that anyone has ever done for me!"

Who do YOU think could do a good job of (temporarily) stepping into Gerard's shoes were he to fall ill?

Replacement for Gerard Way

It's not just pre-pubescent girls screaming at MCR gigs for Gerard Way, it's sometimes us post-pubescent girls too! But when it comes right down to it, it's only the sound that matters. ROCK ROCKS!! In all it's strange,assorted forms, if you don't like how they sound, fair enough, but if it's just their fans you don't like, you really need to get out more!!!

I think Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars could fill his shoes, In fact I think he would make the band better. He has a much better voice too. I don't think Wil Francis would make a good Gerard because Aiden's last album, Conviction was such a disappointment, whereas I enjoyed A Beautiful Lie a lot

Oh, I just had a bright spark. I amgine Hayley Williams, filling in for Gerard Way, Would be a totally different (and better) vocal performance. also add in some guitaring solos from Josh farro also. That would improve the band greatly

I think the best candidates for this would have to be Nathan Leone, Bille-joe Armstrong, Jared Leto or Dave Grohl.

Errrm I dunno, someone with small feet, he does have small feet for a man. I think he'd be pretty irreplacable really. It's much harder to replace the singer than one of the musicians.

Now although its been at least two years since i was a fan of MCR, and my distinct distaste for them has grown and grown to become something more than a mere obsession for which i should seek medical help, i do believe that an amazing frontman of an extraordinary band could revive the sold-out goth-punk/emo group MCR. This man is none other that Tim Lambesis from As I Lay Dying. Amazing. Well... either him or Will O'Connel from Scar The Armada, lol.

Sure, he could have a stand in, but they would not be able to provide the great, amazing live show that Gerard does, sure, people do have a point when they compare his vice to Bert Mckraken or Billy Corgan, and they would be good singers, but they wouldnt be a replacement, even temporarily for Gerard Way.

I think Frank iero seeing as he does backup vocals and is a part of the band
but tbh i dont think mcr would be mcr without gerard way as the front man and if they had to have a stand in it would have to be someone either in the band or very close to the band. Someone with the same style music and a very similar voice. Doubt mcr would still play if gerard became ill anyways......

Anders Friden (Inflames) would kick arse! I would definitely go and see MCR with Anders as the frontman. Everyone knows though, that if Bert Mcraken and Gerard were still friends, he would have been first chioce for the temporary fill-in. MCR should revisit their roots in screamo more often.

Chester Bennington, hes got a good voice, and he does the slight screamo approach like gerard at times. and he can keep up MCRs status as hes well known

Honestly? No one would ever have to take his place. Everyone in the band fights illness to the bitter end. If it comes to Gerard in a heap on the floor puking all over the mic AND the crowd, I'm sure he'd have it no other way. But I guess, if I have to pick someone, it would be Billy Corgan. None of the screaming fangirls woud be able to tell the difference.

a replacement for Gerard...?

In my opinion, noone could be a better replacement for Gerard, than Gerard himself.
Pretty much everyone comes to shows to see the guys, most of hem the singer, so what would an MCR show be without Gerard??!
I mean, I would definately come see their show, even if it means Gerard wouldn't be there. I paid to see an MCR show right? I came there to listen to their f*cking music and have a good time! I will still go to their show!

Anyway, Adam Lazzarra would be a great fill-in, because Gerard and Adam have been friends since like, FOREVER... but I pick Ian Watkins.

Gerard and Ian have known eachother for years now, they've played festivals together, they've done photoshoots together, and most importantly, they're both really into eachother.
Ian's let us know he thinks it would b really awsome to do something with MCR/Gerard (it was in a Kerrang last year!) and this would be the perfect oppertunity, right...??

There is no substitute for Gerard Way if theres no gerard theres pretty much no My Chemical Romance. Dont get me wrong they are all fab and Gerard is not my favourite member but as front man and co-founder of mcr, I personally think there is noone who could be equally as mcr a Gerard.
Lets Hope Gerard never falls so Ill that a Decision like that has to be made.

I have seen alot of bands in concert and that proves what they got not only on cd but stage in front of a live audience. Also seeing MCR 12 times I think the best choice would have to be Wil Francis from Aiden. I mean the man in concert is so pumped up that he just blows it out of the water! He's got the voice, the looks, even the make-up and he's always trying to get crowd over-evcited. Not only that he performs and sounds better live then their cd's. But I also have two really close runner - up's and that would have to be David Grohl and or Adam Lazarra. Personally I think David Grohl would out-perform Adam. But if it ever did happen my first pick is most definatley Wil Francis!!!

Hmmmm well Gerard is an amazingly talented singer, and I've seen MCR live twice (and you happened to review Sheffield in last week's Kerrang so thanks cos I went to that one!) and I must say that wiL Francis or Dave Grohl would be extremely interesting to have as front men. Not that I want Gerard to ever be ill cos he rocks, and I doubt that they'd just replace him if he was ill - they'd just have to cancel shows yeah? But all the same a bit of the Foos in MCR would certainly be a good mix in my opinion!!

Billy Joe of Green Day could also be a goot temporary substitute. This would be a tight move though - they already look somewhat alike. And since Bliiy has better vocal talent and could do a good style imitation, Gerard could be in more serious trouble than falling sick and having to share his shoes!

to be honest, i don't think anyone can really fill in for gerard. Like, say a guitarist fell ill, then you'd get another guitarist to replace them, same with the drums or bass, but with vocals you can't just use a substitute, else it would sound really f**ked up, so if gerard became ill, or have to leave part time then i think it is only right to wait until he's ready to come back instead of replacing him!! after all you came to see my chemical romance not some random dude singing with the band!! if you get what i mean :P

To be honest i don't think anybody could fill in for Gerard. you can fill in a drummer, bassist and guitarist but you just can't replace a vocalist, especially one like Gerard he has one of those voices nobody could ever live up to.
but if it was an emergency i would say Adam Lazzara.
without gerard it would seem like a completely different band. if he were to fall sick, i would rather them cancel than someone fill in, it wouldn't be the same

considering the two main factors

1) gerard screams half the time like his balls are being smashed

2) and the fact that when he gets into it he falls to the floor and has some kind of.....fit

i would suggest a cross between micheal jackson and miss piggy from the muppets

Altho Pencey prep have a diferent style of music going on i think the fans of MCR would except frank as lead singer temporarily more that any one else! If you get somone nobodys ever heard of everyone is going to compare that person to Gerard way and it will take time to get used to the new singer! By the time the new singer is accepted it will proberlt be time for Gerard to come back, If Frank is Vocals the fans are already used to him!Also Would already know the lyrics to all the songs!

But, honestly, without sound all teeny and such, i don't think anybody else except from Gerard Way could ever front My Chemical Romance as great as he does.

mcr step in

thats hard as mcr are such an inflential band on todays music scence with music completly different to every other band. it would be interesting to see someone like the king himself or john lennon as they contributed to music decades ago which helped develop todays modern indie/rock music scene. however it would help if these rock lengends were here to fill the shoes of gerard way if he were to fall ill as obviously they are both dead. ah well, it would have been worth it to see if they were with us today!

i belive that if they got someone like Serj Tankien to fill in it would give alot more 'life' to the show. all though being a massive MCR fan for 3 years istill think they should liven up a bit onstage (Gerard i mean) but....idk...MCR are gonna (proberly) break up soon i think. and if gerard goes solo...he'll fail miserably!
