I do think you should be the cd but just because its cool to have the thing insted of a bunch of rich fuck heads getting mre money. Why don't you think about the reasonable part of this critic? Haven't we killed the music industry in some sense? Downloading music for free might have give us the opportunity of listening to more bands, but also made so many others miss the chance of a contract. Simmons might be wrong in many ways, but he's not so far from the truth.

Gene Simmons has the mind of a genious! Sure KISS were HUGE back in the 70's, 80's so on and so forth, but their showmanship (which 90% of bands, if you can call them bands these days LACK) is still 100%. They can still sell out stadiums WORLDWIDE, they still sell merchandise WORLDWIDE. Do we not owe it to great LIVE bands to stop downloading for free, and give something back to the bands that give us great music????

i totaly agree with him, Record componies should have been on to the net from the start and made everyone pay a monthy fee to downlaoad songs. im not saying i havent downloaded music for free but i feel a little bit guilty every time. decent bands that are starting out need to get paid for the effort they put in becouse who goes to work for free? no one. and most bands who go to other jobs never make it past there home town. and by the way every one paid for music before the net was around.

I don't like either of these bands to be honest, I'm not saying that their shit, I just don't understand it, I don't get how if your british and moan over feedback and strange noises that your suddenly an artistic genius. With regard to NIN Trent Reznor seems really bitter to me that his band just never had the success that he wanted, so he keeps changing the formula in the hope to make it big. I do laugh at the way he mocks Fall Out Boy and Smashing Pumpkins, thats just total jealousy that both bands have more success. To me Radiohead screams bearded students on push bikes with tweed blazers who can't possibly listen to anything commercial and who can point a camera so that makes them "an artist".

I like "Thursday's" approach to downloading music. "Download as much of our music as you want, put if you do please buy a ticket to our show when it comes near to where you live an if you have a couple of extra bucks buy a t-shirt". That to me is a really stand up thing to say. If I download an album and really like it I will probably end up buying it for the better sound quality or I will go to the gig and buy a bit of merch. Going to gigs costs like 40 quid after ticket, transport, food,drink. So as long as their are people at the gigs the bands shouldn't moan that someone hasnt bought your 10 quid cd, because its cost them enough to come and watch

Trent Reznor and radiohead have made more money by letting fans/people decide how much they want to pay for the download than they would have made doing it the regular way, through the studios. Think about it, what makes more money, paying 10 dollars for a CD which 100 people will buy, or paying 1 dollar for a CD which 10,000 people will buy. Fuck, I hate Bruce Sprinsteen but I understand his talent and if I saw a 1 dollar CD of his for sale I'd buy it. This is what is happening when you put it up for free OR pay what you like for it.

I think bands like NIN and Radiohead have broadened the music industry too as more people are introduced to different genres, without maybe the regret of paying full price of an album they aren't keen on. By doing this, the music they produce is easily available to people who many not be able to afford the shop prices, etc.

We all know its all about money, but aren't those artists making it cheaper for the ever loyal and devoted listeners who made those bands what they are??

And why has it got anything to do with Gene how the bands make their money?? He's too scared to bring out an album because people would buy it for the pleasure of stamping on it. And wouldn't that destroy the music industry!

I love NIN with half my heart (the other half belongs to Rammstein!) and I would pay any price for decent music than pay a penny for a guy who had it large 2 decades or so ago with a good band and now just wants a bit of money and publicity for Christmas.

Since it became clear that sharing digital music is "illegal" (since people started getting busted over Napster way back when), I have been pretty leery of downloading anything. That just meant that I stopped listening to music much, frankly. Nobody seemed to recognize at that point that CDs were fucking overpriced, and no execs did a goddamn thing to address the situation: they just wanted to squeeze the shit out of the public (LIKE FUCKING GENE FUCKING SIMMONS, APPARENTLY; AND BTW, GENE, MAKE SOME FUCKING MUSIC THAT MATTERS AND MAYBE A FEW OF US PLEBES WILL START GIVING A FUCK).

I bought NIN and Radiohead CDs before any of this "free" release stuff started happening because...

As we breathe to live, as the oxygen keeps the little wheels inside us turning, those fucking bands turned the wheels inside my soul. Kiss might do it for somebody out there -- but maybe not after making a stupid ass crack like this one. Take a look at the recent NIN post about sales of Niggy Tardust and you'll see that while the economics might not have been 100% tight, that new album sold about as well as Saul's last... maybe it just needs a few tweaks, this new business model -- ask ten bucks instead of five?

Whatever he was looking for there, he found -- and that's a big fucking deal for anyone who can no longer find the music they heard on the radio as a kid but wants to. Where has it been? Where is it? Sitting down in some fucking vaults at Sony or WB or heaven knows where just collecting dust.

Whatever you believe about copyright law, sharing is sharing, man: I lend you a book, you read it, you give it back. Shit -- no fucking law broken. How about this: duuuude?! Can I borrow that CD? No sweat... just give it back when you're done. We're living in a global community. Short of a nuclear apocalypse, I think people are going to find a way to share music digitally.

Even software is free these days -- have you not heard of Linux, MySQL, GNU. the GPL, open source, or anything like that? The kids don't want to pay -- copyright law is about forty years behind the times and knows nothing at all of technology nor of human happiness.

Seems to me that Ol' Gene is showing he doesn't want to grow with the times. He has neglected the fact that radiohead made 5 million alone from only 33% paying! and it ALL went to the BAND! nothing went to the record industry! That's fucking incredible profit! Then, they made the rest off of touring and merchandise. The money is there Gene. Infact, Saul Williams and Trent did a project last year that I paid only five bucks for! That's all they wanted for around 15 great musical tracks that combine genres and bend barriers in music! They even offered it for free, and get this! I took it for free, then went back and bought it! That's called respect for the musical art!
I understand that there is a ton of people who can't afford to pay a dollar a song or 10 bucks or more an album, they have fucking bills to pay and mouths to feed, including kids. So they go without the music they love because the record industry needs another platinum album to get FAT off of. It's as bad as the Oil companies and the capitalists that are lobbied by big business. Everyone with power just wants more. That's exactly what the record companies have become. The masters to the slaves known as musicians. How many signed artists really have the freedom to write the music they want? Sure, there are a few cases that just do what they want, i.e. John Frusciante, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, etc., but these are musicians who have seen the ugly of this business.

Don't discredit the music, because if you don't like it, don't listen to it. I am NOT calling Gene Simmons untalented or a twit or a hasbeen. I am just saying he is scared of change because he knows who puts bread in his basket. We are almost all being manipulated by someone, and he is being strung up by MTV and the likes of the music industry who don't want music to be a freedom of choice. They want to control the airwaves and decide what you will like and what you will buy!

I know these people are trying to make a living but it gets to a point when you have enough and Gene has more money than some countries - when a band gets to this stage they should be able to say "fuck it, let's give the fans something back".

Just for the unofficial record, I have seen both bands live and I can honestly say that seeing NIN in Wolverhampton was far superior to Seeing KISS at the MEN arena - You don't need fireworks to be an amazing live band, just charisma and talent which Trent has in abundance.
