Fall Out Boy may have begun demoing material for their as-yet-untitled fifth studio album, but lead singer Patrick Stump says the band aren't ready to give birth to it just yet.
"I always think of that total cliche that a record is like a child or a pregnancy even," Stump told MTV. "There is a point where you're just going to have a record, like, 'Oh! It's coming!' And we're not there yet. I don't even know how far along it is. First trimester, maybe."
In terms of the musical direction for the follow-up to this year's Infinity On High, FOB have been quoted as saying that the album will range from pop to folk to even rap-rock, depending on who you belive in the band.
"It's probably going to be a pop record," said Stump last month. "We're experimenting with piano, too."
This month however he told MTV that the band are pursuing a folk direction: "We were kind of thinking about folk music lyrically. And I think a lot of people assumed that meant acoustic guitars, which it doesn't."
Bassist Pete Wentz has other ideas though: "Contrary to the heavy blogging, the new record is not gonna be a folk record," he wrote on his online blog. "It's gonna be rap-rock."
