Chili Peppers sue ex-X-Files star's new show

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have filed a lawsuit against US TV show Californication which stars and is co-produced by former X-Files star David Duchovny.

The Chili Peppers claim US TV company Showtime stole the name from the band's 1999 album Californication and have demanded that producers stop using the name and give the band any profits made from using it.

"Californication is the signature CD, video and song of the band's career," frontman Anthony Kiedis said in an official statement. "For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right."

Aww. Poor Kiedis. A pity he does not seem to understand the word Californication was in use years before he hijacked it.

Californication

Californication (portmanteau), an expression that refers to the influx of Californians into various western states in the U.S

How pathetic, do they really need another few million dollars? I think not, they need to get over themselves.

How sad, a once great band reduced to arguing about a name, how pathetic.

They may have made millions over the years, but they've also lost quite a bit of money because of piracy and illegal downloading. If I were in their shoes, I think I would be more angry about that than the use of a single word (unless of course they hold a legal copyright to the word).

i think its bloody stupid man can we say if any show uses any thing rhcp have claimed will it be the same anth really needs to rethink these things like there song catholic school girls rule they stole it from the church but no nobody says anything about that but one class name for people from calli and it all up in the air i think its just stupid and keidis really needs to look into what he is upset about before heading into a court house

c'mon

It seems to me like nobody these days can actually settle any thing with out taking it to court and is it really worth it, do they really need more money.

I mean people use other people’s ideas all the time and don’t get sewed for it, I mean did Rob Zombie get sewed by the makers of the munsters for making a song about their car the dragular? And did Manson get sewed for calling his latest album “eat me drink me” which he has said is partly to do with Alice in wonderland? And did AX7 get sewed for calling their song bat country as it and the video is clearly taken from Hunter S Thompson’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”? Also are people at risk of being sewed for having things such as band logos, songs, and various other tributes tattooed on them. (If that is the case placebo come and sew me I have protégé moi tattooed on my back) It really is just a bit stupid so Mr Kiedis un-bunch your panties, go and write something good, not that your last efforts weren’t good but well we all know you can do better.

red hot chili cunts

what a load of fucking nonesense, are they that hard up that they have to sue the makers of a tv show because it just so happens to be the name of one of their rather shit tracks. are cadburys gonna sue the makers of the show heroes because it shares the name of one of their products?

chili's are like ub40, bob marley and coldplay, heard one song, heard them all. tedious hateful band fronted by a cunt.

one more thing, perhaps he wants to get some of the money back from his days as a coked up heroin addicted junkie, just a thought....

Get Over It !

RHCP deal with it ! You don't need the money - millions do - go help the needy, don't be greedy, jerks !!
Get over yourselves - perhaps your efforts would be better spent on doing a better damn album as you are becoming crap. Your live performance in Glasgow '07 was rank rotten aswell.

No case

Can't copyright titles - check the Berne convention. Of course, that's probably a secondary issue to the fact that the word was coined in the 1970s.

The Chillis need better lawyers, because all that this is doing is anding them with a legal bill.

After making yet another shit record they need to get their name in the press somehow and this seems like the perfect way. Pity. They come off as such egotistical idiots. Get over yourselves please or fuck right off.

Lost respect`

For fuck sake man. This is a great show. The chillis don't need anymore money, this is what it's about. Not stealing their "identity" as Kiedis calls it. I have lost all respect for these guys now. This is fucking PATHETIC! This show is amazing, if it's ruined from them I will be seriously annoyed :@
