The Playlist 10/10/2007

10 songs you should hear now!

1, NIGHTWISH, BYE BYE BEAUTIFUL
With new singer Anette Olzon firmly occupying Tarja's heels, this cut from Dark Passion Play proves they're burning brighter than ever.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZG4WqjZ-Mo

2, LOSTALONE, STANDING ON THE RUIN OF A BEAUTIFUL EMPIRE
Currently touring Europe with Enter Shikari, this Derby trio display a similar talent for danceable, emotive hardcore.
www.myspace.com/lostalonemusic

3, ANAAL NATHRAKH, THE FINAL ABSOLUTION
An absolutely crushing preview of what the Brummy black-metallers' fourth album holds in store. Relentlessly evil, as ever.
www.myspace.com/anaalnathrakh

4, MEGADETH, NEVER WALK ALONE
Dave Mustaine and cohorts are back with this toe-tappingly old-school offering from their recent return-to-form that was United Abominations.
vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=18915648

5, CHIODOS, LEXINGTON
A sweeping, piano-led example of a dark majesty that could well give 30 Seconds To Mars a run for their money.
www.myspace.com/chiodos

6, SOILWORK, THE PITTSBURGH SYNDICATE
Taken from their forthcoming new album, this is a fine slice of precision-heavy melodic metal from these mental Swedes.
www.myspace.com/soilwork

7, PUSCIFER, QUEEN B
Maynard James Keenan like you've never heard him before. Filthy, sexy, electronic beats that writhe and shake it like Tool never could.

8, THIS IS MENACE, HIGH ROAD
Featuring the vocal talents of ex-Sikth jabber-throat Mikee Goodman, this new single from the alt-metal supergroup is another diamond-studded slice of imaginative excellence.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku79-Vq6bDM

9, IN FLAMES, COME CLARITY (LIVE)
Wacken live action from Sweden's In Flames, whose deft hand at a down-tempo but uplifting chorus is a sight to behold.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUO9VZCCEiU

10, ZICO CHAIN, WHERE WOULD YOU RATHER BE?
The 'Chain return with another bouncer filled with crunchy guitars and a groove you could land a jet in. Sounds a bit like QOTSA, which is no bad thing.

Finally! You've discovered Puscifer!
I first heard Mr Keenan's side project on the Underworld films.
The Undertaker is such a good song but I'll have to go check out Queen B now.
Nice one, K!

SORT IT OUT

kerrang, what has happened to you. you guys were the first to critisize busted when they came out so why the fuck praise the power pop pussys elliot minor? and also stop kissing matt davies arse, funeral for a friend suck, get over it. and why the hell are gym class heroes even mentioned in the magazine when theyre a fucking rap/hiphop group????? i hate this new scene of black rappers getting into the rock scene, ie fall out boy and jay z, linkin park and every black man on the planet and gallows and lethal bizzle. soon 50 cent will probably record with muse unless he gets shot again.

My Chemical Romance are horrible, and seriously over played. Play This Is Menace, british metal that isn't trying to be American.

THIS IS MENACE!

LEXINGTON

I LOVE CHIODOS!
Lexington. (Joey Pea-Pot With A Monkey Face) might be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. I'd agree that there are songs that represent them a bit better (Baby, You Wouldn't Last a Minute on the Creek, for example) but Lexington is a great choice.
