Placebo part company with drummer

Placebo have parted company with long-time drummer Steve Hewitt citing the age old adage of "musical differences".

"Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage, and in couples - in this case a triple - people can grow apart over the years," said frontman Brian Molko in an official statement. "To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realize that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak."

The band have just returned from a stint on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution Tour and are now taking a break before beginning work on their sixth studio album next spring.

Your A Twat, Any True Fan Would Value Steves Opinion Just As Much As Brians... What Because He Is Better Looking, His Opinion Must Be Valued Higher? Grow Up, Think Like An Adult, Your Veiw Point Is So Immature, People Like You, Know Nothing About The Band, See A Pretty Face, And Just Make Assumptions, Sorry To Just Target Yoo But This Is Aimed At All The Other Narrow Minded Ignorent Twats As Well... Not Only Yoo, Dont Worry, But Yeah People Like This Piss Me Off!!! >: [

Did you spazz out with your caps lock button at the beginning of every word? That person you're referring to said nothing offensive, and I don't know how you can call anyone narrow minded, you don't even know them, you're the one that needs to grow up buddy. And I suggest you take some therapy for those anger issues you obviously have, you seem to be lack a great deal of tolerance for other people's opinions.

Tragic. I'm...stunned. Placebo are one of the few really, truly wicked bands out there, flying the flag for self-expression. I really hope that Stephan and Brian find someone who does want the same things as they do, and that the band will come out stronger. Godspeed to Steve.

Shut up about how much you people 'love' Steve (but omgzorz u luv Brian more). It's a sad moment that deserves to be noted with more intelligent disappointment than that.

Guh, this is so gutting. I don't know how they can replace him, the group dynamic rested on Brian, Stefan AND Steve.

I wish Steve all the best with whatever he choses to do, and hope that if and when Placebo release a new album it's as kick ass as the rest.

A sad time for Placebo fans. I'm going to miss Steve pounding away on his drum kit. : (

this is terrible news, i agree as becs said above, it was magnificent dynamic and im not sure any one can replace steve in our hearts. this is truley a sad day for me and many othey placebo fans alike. no one will ever be able to fill steves shoes but i hope who ever they get to take his place, mesh's with the band as well as he did.

and i also hope that steve goes on to find some one he can make music with and be happy again.

End of an era/Beginning of the end?

This is hugely sad for those who have been devoted Placebo fans for years. I'm desperately hoping that Brian and Stef can keep this truely individual, inspiring band going.

However...

Why are people acting like Steve is dead? I've heard people have actually cried over this news. He's still alive and hopefully he will make a return to music at some point in the future. It's not the end of the world guys.

If Brian thinks any free thinking Placebo fan is going to believe that lie ridden press release, than he's incredibely dillusional.Steve was kicked out of the band and those two COWARDLY bandmates of his didnt even have the balls to tell him themselves but had someone else do it.I guess thats a nice way to thank someone for 11 years of dedication, a knife in the back!I recommend Brian get together with Billy Corgan, have him over for a turncoat tea party, so that they can compare bandmate backstabbing notes and hairloss.Placebo are dead to me.

@Anghrad; It is not important how I know this but believe me,it is true.Management called Steve in and fired him because Stef and Brian we're too COWARDLY to do it themselves. And Placebo will need to borrow the McCann's PR spin team,if they hope of getting away with this amicable split BS lie.Eventually, once the shock wears off and some things get sorted, people will talk the thruth. In the interim, longtime fans like myself, who never viewed Placebo as "The Brian Molko experience" will NOT let this go.Ive seen Placebo on many tours and Steve has always been an absolute sweetheart to everyone, regardless of wether you were a guy or girl, goth, prep or music tourist,he was always brilliant to Placebo fans.We wont be forgeting this anytime soon.Placebo is dead to me and my mates.

BRIAN MADE A MISTAKE

i can't say if this placebo end or not...
but somehow, to me the magic is lost... permanently?! i don't know. Right now something's broken. Steve was the backbone of that band, he was the solid rock behind Brian's daring mis-en-scéne, his gloomy way, his starlike manner. Brian owes all this poetry to Steve's silent, trustworthy and continuous presence...He'll miss him

C'est vraiment pas gentil ce que vous avez fait a Steve!C'est une honte!!! Que Dieu vous pardone (s'il existe)car moi, je ne le ferais jamais! Its clear that what is left of Placebo, has no heart or respect for their audience. Its kitsh to say but every cloud has a silver lining, even storm clouds, so I am sure that we wont see the last of Steve H.but Ive got a hunch the future wont be so kind to Brian.

@Miss J: Out of respect,I cant tell you how I know but I stand behind everything Ive posted to be 100% true to the best of my knowledge, from that very trusted source. The only reason I decided to come here and post is because this lie has REALLY,REALLY hurt people that have been good to me.Im a looongtime fan, have made great friends at their shows and we have all handed Placebo mountains of our hard earned cash,in support. The very least Brian and Stef owe us,is some respect and the thruth. If this split was so "amicable" why no press release from Steve? I cant find anything online that supports any of that from him and he was the most fan oriented of the whole bunch.Did he just wake up one day and decide to leave Placebo and become a mute at the same time? Take a vow of silence? ...After the lawyers get paid, the thruth always comes out in the end.Think about it...

...(Sorry,limited by space for each post on wireless).....but like I was saying,Steve didnt see it coming.Management gave him some bogus line about the band not being happy with his level of commitment during the tour...and thats pretty funny,if you've ever seen Placebo live.Steve does his thing and is the only one in the band who isnt anti social and seems to really enjoy interacting with most people on tour!..WTF???..Just look at the reaction from people over his firing. Its anything but indifference! Were Brian and Stef jealous of his connection to the fans? I dont know and dont plan on ever going to see them, to ask.Ive never missed a single one of their gigs here,on this side of the pond, since the "Without You.." tour (they didnt come for their first)always on Stef's side of the stage. But those days are over!I will never see or support Placebo again...I cant bring myself to dog Stef but Brian and him will deserve all the scorn coming their way...Miss J,you sound like a nice person.Sorry, no good news.

@Susie: Fair enough, thanks. I am sure Steve will release a statement when he sees fit, probably through the band's official website. Anything will be enlightening at this point, as most discussion so far has consisted of vitriolic fans looking for a scapegoat, and starting unnecessary arguments. What some fans seem to forget is that although Placebo may have appeared 'more brotherly and close' than most bands, people in the public eye can be very adept at creating a convincing facade to please the audience. Cracks may have been appearing for a long time, but gone unnoticed because of the band's convincing performance; it's only backstage that the real persona comes across. I await Steve's response with eager eyes.

@Miss J;Im being overtly carefull because of libel so I dont want to embelish or misrepresent what I know but I also think its very UNFAIR/WRONG that Placebo are using the fact that Steve is bound to silence at the mo and cant defend himself to absolve themselves of responsibility. He is being made to sound like he got fed up and left, when in fact that is far from the thruth.Steve didnt see it coming at all! This subject was never discussed within the band.I give you my guarantee on that! I saw them twice last Spring and didnt notice any change in Steve H.He was his typical funny/charming self and nice to everyone.I went home with my whole face hurting from laughing at the banter between him and a mate of mine. They were hysterical...The last Steve saw of Brian was at the end of the tour and they parted on a good note,Later, management called Steve into the London office and dropped this on him, that he was no longer wanted.Till this day,Steve hasnt heard from Stef or Bri..( Im not on a PC,crackberry, cont.below)

I don't care what your sources are or how it happened, Steve was an incredible asset to Placebo, and as i recall, Brian Molko was nothing but enthusiastic when Steve was introduced to the band. he would not kick him out, and if they did i am sure they have their own equally important side to this story.
Get Both Sides.

"It's almost bordering on cliché but Hewitt and Olsdal are my best friends in the world...They are like my two husbands. I've never felt more at home anywhere. I love them more than I have loved any other men on this planet in my life. They are both very beautiful people, as fucked up as I am -- true. Acts of God aside, this is why this band will be here for quite some time." - Brian Molko

WE WANT STEVE

Let´s not rush into conclusions... i too, am feeling disgusted with the matter. i feel disappointed and revolted with Bri and Stef's apparent behaviour, but i'm trying not to forget that we haven't heard both sides of the story and that there's a chance we're being unfair with these two.
Or maybe it's just too hard for me to think of Bri, always so sweet and concerned as a backstabber... What do you think Susie? Can it be possible that we've been fooled all this years, by a fake Brian, a charming person that never existed at all? That was simply created to fool fans and sell records (remember he studied drama...) ?

I Wana Talk To Susie Lol: STEVE!

Placebo Are My Universe.
I Adore Them.
I Live and Breathe Them.
I Preech Them.
I Have Never Loved A Band As I do Them.
Us Fans Are Hardcore.
The Alternative Crowd As Established That.
Thats What We Are Known For.
Our Continuous Love and Affection
For The Band.
Regardless Of The
RIDICULOUSLY SMALL
Amounts Of Affection We Get In Return.
Because We Love Them.
We Belove In Them.
...
But Now That Steves Left...,
Its Seriously Confused And Distrupted
My Universe....
I Find Myslef Questioning Something
I'd Never Thought I'd Question.
The Only Stable Thing In My Life.
...
Placebo, We Must Admit
Are Qwite, Seperated From The Fans.
Which Is Confusing Because They
Allready Know How Passionate We Are About Them, Yet... Its Like They Refuse To Embrace It,
Even When Other Bands Are Trying Too
Reach Out For That Kind Of Love, But Dont Recive It.
Placebo Do... All The Frikkin Time,
Yet We Are Still Neglected.
Its Like We're Chasing after Some
Unreachable Goal.
Now That Steve's "Left"
It Feels Like The Band Will Only
Become Colder, Even More Abstract,
We Dont Need A Bitter and Steril Placebo.
With Their Music Yoo Can Travel With Them.
Through Brians Lyrics Yoo Can Get Into His Mind And Understand Whats Going On.
I Think Thats The Way In Which We Are Able To Draw On Affection From The Band.
But Steve Was An Important Part Of That Development, And He Is Entwined
To Deeply Into The Seams Of That Band
How Can We Expect Any Real Placebo Music Anymore.... When Its Not Really Placebo...? xXx

I think that band can not split if is there no big reason. They loved each other, so must be something big behind!

Brian is a good person and Placebo is very very good band!

I dont know why people with complex write worthless and offensive comments.

Placebo stopped being a good band circa 2001. The entire band are a worthless, primping shit machine, they may as well just disappear up their own rear ends and retire.

Find a replacement for Steve? No Way! Steve is, as anyone else, unique and, as such, irreplaceable... So I think it's the end of Placebo as we knew it. Let's just hope this gives brian a time to lose his starlike pose, remember his responsabilities towards fans and his own intelligence and work hard to find his criativity back. I´m afraid his thinking more with his pocket and less with is heart and sensibility
