Cavalera Conspiracy is a new musical project from Soulfy frontman Max Cavalera, which sees him reunited with his brother Igor Cavalera after 11 years. It is the first time the pair have recorded together since Max left Sepultura acrimoniously in 1996.
The pair are currently working on their debut album in Los Angeles with producer and former Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader. They're joined by Soulfy guitarist Marc Rizzo and Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier assuming bass duties. According to Max, the foursome are creating an album which will make fans "shit their pants".
"The songs are insane, I can't wait for people to hear it," he enthuses. "My attitude about this was to just not give a fuck. Everyone expects tribal grooves from me but there's none of that this time. There's lots of punk-metal and death metal and I really wanted to keep it punk rock."
Having been working separately for so long, Max admits the first couple of days in the studio were pretty nerve-wracking, wondering if the musical connection between he and his brother was still going to be there.
"I was very nervous at first because it's been 10 years since we recorded together," says Max. "In the end I thought fuck it, let's just get back to doing what we do. Everybody in the studio says it's as if we've never really stopped playing with each other. There was no weirdness."
There are plans to take The Cavalera Conspiracy out on the road early next year to coincide with the release of their debut album.
"We won't tour as much as Soulfly," admits the frontman. "We also don't want to tour as little as [1994 side-project] Nailbomb, who only played two shows. So yeah, people will get to see this live, a couple of tours on every continent would definitely be cool!"
The Cavalera Conspiracy's album is due out early 2008 through Roadrunner.
