Kerrang! Awards: And the nominations are...

Nominations for this year's Kerrang! Awards were exclusively announced today at the Kerrang! Day Of Rock, which was held at London's Oxford Street Virgin Megastores (the Official Retail Partner for the Kerrang! Awards). The Kerrang! Awards are set to take place on Thursday 23 August at The Brewery and promise to deliver what most expect from the Kerrang! Awards - a night of rock 'n' roll excess and definitely a night to remember!

The battle between the rave-metal of Enter Shikari and the grandeur rock of My Chemical Romance is well and truly on, with each band being nominated for a tremendous FOUR awards.

Said Enter Shikari's Rou: "Great to be nominated again, thanks to everyone that voted for us! Still shocked from being nominated last year really! Hopefully this time we wont have a show and can actually make the awards!"

My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way added: "It's been an amazing, crazy adventure being in this band for six years. The United Kingdom has always been a second home for us and you have all done more than make us feel welcome. And while nominations are flattering, and trophies are thrilling, our greatest award is the love and dedication we receive from all of you - and nothing sitting in a shelf can take the place of that. Thank you for making us the best we can be"

Oh my its this time of the year you relise that keerang is only read by emos and kids, how metallica arnt in the best live band? and how are MCR in every award and Enter shitcurry are one of the worst bands live and on record, look at the metal hammer awards there was some real rock/.metal bands winnig awards.

Bottom line here. ES are just an overnight screamo succes and MCR are just plain gay, and although I do buy Kerrang each week, I do know a lot of people who've converted to Metal Hammer and Terrorizer who are much happier now. I mean have you not noticed that when you type in a band to myspace search that rock/metal bands have - say - Tens of thousands of fans. YET when you type a band like P@TD or MCR etc they come up with over a million fuckin fans! OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE! There are better bands on myspace that deserve more friends than any of these piss awful bands!

No ACTUALLY, I like what myself and friends think is actually DECENT music like Satyricon, Machine Head, Nile, DevilDriver and way more. Bands that DESERVE to be praised for their brilliant Musicianship. Seriously have you listened to anything like Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Shadows Fall or the like? THESE are GOOD bands, not MCR or ES so nehhr :P

I gotta agree with you there, although I do still buy Kerrang, I am so dissapointed at the lack of METAL that's up for nominations! I mean there's at least ONE band out of each category that I 'de love to win (1. LostAlone or TGOAT, 2. JFAC or Madina Lake, 3. Lostprophets or Muse, 4. FFAF or AFI, 5. Machine Fuckin Head or Biffy Clyro, 6. None of them really, 7. ANY of the except ES, 8. Machine Fuckin Head!). Normally I'de be spoilt for choice but this year is just plain dissapointing really - I mean poor MH and JFAC are goin feel so out of place compared to the Metal Hammer Awards.

Muse should win Best Live Act and Best British Band, simply cos if you go to any Muse gig, you'll come out a different person, and the music they produce is better than the Artic Monkeys and Enter Shikari, even though they are both great bands. And who would have seen Knights of Cydonia coming, eh?

Ive seen MCR several times live are good but have lost performance since 2002. they both work hard but there have been much better albums/performances out there...a change would be nice

There's two metal bands there, Job For A Cowboy and Machine Head, but yeah other than them there's nothing remotely meatl about the rest of em, Lostprophets and Muse are cool but MCR and ES can suck cock. Oh wait...they already do!

I mean it KErrang, if you don't fucking sort your act out and get some more metal and rock in your mag and less emo I'm going to become a complete Metal Hammer/Terrorizor devotee, cos at the moment I buy 3 music mags including yours and I'm starting to wonder why I buy it now cos 1. As before mentioned there's way too much emo in your mag than there should be and 2. Why has the price for your mag gone up to £2.10, I know it's not much but I would normally expect that amount only if there was a free CD or something big inside.

Well done, My Chem, I'm so proud of you guys and I voted for you in every category that you are now nominated for! As for those who hate MCR, I say this; you should have put your vote in and quit complaining.

Enter Shikari? To be honest, I really don't see what all the hype is. Sorry You're Not A Winner was about the best song they've come up with and that's not fantastic.

As for the Best International Band nominees; what is this, an EMOFEST?!?! I'm so glad that My Chem are up there, and Machine Head DESERVE IT but all Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco have done is whined about depression and ranted on about how they're gonna be the next Radiohead. NOT gonna happen. And The Used are fame-grabbers who use other bands for publicity.

And I believe that I Am Ghost are missing from that line-up. Not a single nomination; I'm ashamed. Fantastic news from the Best Live Band category, though, it's a tough one between Lostprophets and Aiden, both of whom I saw this year and both of whom blew the support bands off the stage.

You can count on it that My Chem and Aiden and/or Lostprophets will get my vote!

For all you people bitching that people like MCR are nominated, get over it! you need to understand that its not all about you and your faveourite bands. There are lots of kids who like MCR and are happy they get awards, so why have a go at them for giving support to a band they like.

They both deserve the awards they have been nominated for.

Fucking been woth them from the very start <3 them something chronic. But I do have to say that I don't think that "Welcome To The Black Parade" deserves that award. It wasn't as mind-blowing as their older videos, and TBH "The Black Parade", although fucking immense, made way for teenie fangirls to get a grip on MCR, I think that it went a little to mainstream and was a little to primped and preemed to be the "Best Album".

I didn't fully realise just how badly Kerrang had jumped the shark until I saw these awards. It is truly a sad day when bands like Machine Head (or, indeed, metal bands of any stripe) look so utterly out of place on a Kerrang awards list. Their TV channel is, if anything, even worse - you could watch it for HOURS without seeing a single unambiguously metal video...

Embracing change and being open to new music is one thing, selling out COMPLETELY to the current rock music fashion du jour is quite another... when this whole emo / skater / whining tosser fetish passes, I just hope Kerrang ain't banking on pissed off (former reader) metal fans coming back from Metal Hammer and Terrorizer to bail them out...

Am with ya on that one. i remember a time back in the 80's/90's yep showing my age, where you would pick up Kerrang and in there would be G n R, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Medgadeth and many more. Just a shame how music tastes have changed so much that there are no metal bands apart from Machine Head to be nominated.

These award nominations are shambolic

If MCR beat Machine Head's "The Blackening" as best album or beat machine head as best international band, it will be a disgusting thing. those pieces of shit mcr are only there nominated like that because of their non deserved commercial success, and how magazines like Kerrang jump on the fucking bandwagon and kiss their arses and overplay them on their TV channel and feature them way too often in the magazine. Kerrang has become as sumone pointed out earlier, Fake. The award nominations may well of been a fix, i agree with that. Kerrang will do anything to please the crying little emos these days.
i dont know much about enter shikari so wont comment on them, maybe they deserved those nomination, i dunno :/

also where are stone sour? surely deserved a nomination in best international band.
And The White Stripes. The Blackening and Icky Thump, two amazing albums released this year. one of them deserve best album.
i agree with those commenting saying Muse should win Best Live. Most defo, seen them at wembley and were amazing. i also seen Mcr at wembley in support of muse, it was a fucking travesty. longest 40 mins of my life.

mcr have worked hard to get where they are, but dont give them extra credit for it as so have many of the other bands on that list! the only thing i dont agree with is them being nominated for best live band! i dont mean to offend but as far as their cd's go they sound really good, but that only goes to show the wonders a recording studio can do, as i'm not being nasty they really cant play well live! I've seen them countless times and each time its sounded terrible! sorry but its true!

ok firstly. im not entirely happy with nominations. i can see why some people are upset. for example bestbritish band/best live band, how could Maiden NOT get a nomination? lol. i voted alot lol. but enter shikari and aiden did!? hahaha oh well guess i was out voted, im sure not by many lol. and for those complaining about the lack of metal, well duh. why not stick to metal hammer that way you know all your getting is metal if that's what you want.


Secondly. im not complaining about it. as a my chem fan i was happy that they got nominated. was sad other of my fave bands didnt. dont like some of the bands that did. and also to those complaining that their bands haven't made it. well think about why. the uh less *coughs*usesforbiddenwordemo*coughs* bands have a much more varied audience, many not being myspace /internet obssessed teenagers willing to spend their time voting on something that perhaps wont make any difference to the band, well besides boosting their egos. so just accept that these bands have more younger fans (not an insult just an observation) or more dedicated/obsessed fans.

RIP Kerrang

I can remember when Kerrang was about METAL and not emo bollocks and rap shit. Back in the old days it used to feature proper metal bands. The tv channel has Eminem on it, Gym Class Heroes, these are not METAL. What is it with these Avril Lavigne wannabes? Bands like Green Day and RHCP sold out and went pop/mainstream. Kerrang has sold its soul and metal down the river.

seriously what has happened to kerrang awards? my chemical romance are the biggest sellouts in the history of music. best british newcomers is a good selection, although elliot minor deserve to be there!
also angels and airwaves best live band? ive seen them live they are alright, but nothing special! they take old blink songs and ruin them! a great live band that deserve to be there are alexisonfire! last year at taste of chaos they were immense! but they wouldnt get nominated because they arent mainstream enough! i know im bitching but half these bands belong on top of the pops not kerrang! hellogoodbye = pop, AFI = shit compared to old stuff

It must be true, Kerrang really is fake now 0.o Enter Shikari & MCR dont diserve half of these awards they've been nominated for, and tbh all the people that say they been working hard, no they havent ES were majorly OVER HYPED & mcr havent made a good song since "three cheers..."

Why oh why.....I do not understand. Before the comments on voting come I did vote like a thousand times. I assumed the Brit fans would have done the same. I'm in the U.S. btw and took the time to vote, vote, vote. BFMV deserve best british band as well as every other award known to rock/metal. Just my opinion, yes, but I was under the impression they had much love in the UK and with Kerrang readers. I'm so sad and disappointed =( Well, I'm sure once the new album comes out everyone will hop right on the BFMV train, just to say...I never got off of it...Real Metal?? Yes some of nominations were legitimate. Machine Head, GO! I won't comment on the other shit as I seem to be out-numbered by the mcr kids etc....not disrespecting them, I just thought K! was a rock/metal mag. forgive my error.
